Appointment for service was made online and by phone call with a Laney's staff member for furnace annual maintenance the next day between 8 AM and 4 PM. Tech was to call 20 minutes before arrival. No one arrived. No phone call message left. Day wasted waiting for them. Very disappointed! Can't trust a company like this. Taking my business elsewhere. read more

Laney's dispatch called me at 11:05 AM and stated a service tech would be at my house in 20 minutes. I called back at 12:30 PM as the service tech had not arrived. Dispatch stated there was no record of a service tech being dispatched to my address. Dispatch stated that they would find out what happened and get back to me. Called back again at 1:30PM, as still no service tech and no call back from Dispatch as to what happened. Dispatch stated a service tech would be dispatched when "one became available." I asked to speak to a manager and of course got a voice-mail. I left a message to call back for a resolution. Called back at 3:20 PM and asked again to speak to the same manager and received voicemail again. Left another message for a call back as the situation is "beyond ridiculous". Here we are at 4;30 PM and nothing from Laney's. It is becoming apparent someone at Dispatch screwed up and trying to cover up the problem. Laney's, people are generally forgiving if you make misstake and admit to it. People get upset when they get the run around and have no communication. Update, it is now 5:00 PM, day two of my experience and the manager that I left two voicemails has yet to call me back. I would like to provide a daily update, but see where this is going. Customer service is not a top ten priority for this manager (in title only). read more

I have been a Laney's customer for over ten years, since buying our first house. I have had them out for multiple emergencies and routine maintenance. I want to have some electrical work done in my garage and called for a quote. They want to charge a dispatch fee to have someone come out and give me a quote. This isn't even a customer loyalty issue, it's just plain stupid to charge customers to compete for their business. The cost of doing business is that you bid for work you don't always win. In this case the cost of the work isn't even a question, I was always planning on using Laney's. I just need to know what it will cost. Now I'm going to call their competitors and see if I can do better than charging me for an in-person conversation. read more

Our entire remodel job was held up because we were always waiting for laneys. Finally, our contractor found another plumber to finish the job only to find out laneys did the plumbing incorrect for our master bath tub and faucet. The faucet clearly said in the directions from Kohler (purchased at Ferguson) to pipe 7 and 7/8" from the wall. Laneys left 2". So we can only use our 360 handle one way, and that's to turn on cold. They also didn't follow the instructions for the tub drain so the marble had to be broken and taken out in this area. On top of it all, they were rather messy. The other workers we've seen come through will sweep up or vacuum with a hand vac. Laneys did none of the above. What a nightmare it's been. Find a different plumber if you are a small residential home. read more

My elderly mother hired Laney's to clear out her drains on Feb. 3rd to the tune of $300. On Feb. 25th her drains back up in the laundry room, toilet, and shower. They want over $300 again and defend it saying "Hey, we don't guarantee our service." After they leave mom finds the shower backed up again and calls the guy back. He doesn't have the right tool for it. The sewage has seeped into their business practices. The only thing going down the drain is their integrity and my mom's social security money. read more

We've used Laney's for heating, electrical and plumbing repairs for years and have usually been satisfied with their work and prices. Lately, though, it seems they always go for the most expensive alternative when replacing an item. A few years ago the house's 50 year old main circuit breaker died and they quoted me a $2000-$2500 price to replace the whole circuit breaker panel. Fortunately a neighbor suggested getting a another quote. Cost: $450 from a licensed Moorhead electrician. More recently our toilet tank would start running and wasting a lot of water. Laney's plumber suggested pulling the toilet tank and replacing its entire flush mechanism. Estimate:$350. I had him replace only the flapper. Cost $10. Perhaps it would be a good idea to get another opinion on pricey repairs. read more

Having purchased an older home, there have been many updates and repairs needed for our house. Within the first few months we needed pipes replaced in our basement and our furnace repaired. Recently we've needed minor bathroom repairs and quotes for work to update our kitchen. All phone calls have been professional and courteous, service folks have been very helpful, giving explanations that us basic folks can understand. We will gladly recommend Laneys to anyone needing help. We also appreciate that we've gotten to work with the same technicians multiple times. I bought a brand new top of the line AC unit and Furnace which was installed March 2018. Fast forward to today and had a service technician over 2 days ago as AC wasn't working. He put in a shot of coolant but said if it doesn't hold, call them back and most likely there's a leak in the coolant line. So today it's not working again. Called Laneys, they now can't send anyone out to fix the leak until 6 days from now. Really? I spent $10k on a new furnace and AC & now 1 yr old AC isn't working and you can't come out to fix it for 6 days???? Not a great way to treat a customer. Our heat went out so we called Laney's. The technician came over, tore our system apart and left with our thermostat. He said he was going to order parts and be back the next day. The next day he didn't show up. We called and they said they were not coming back. They never came back, they kept our thermostat, and then stuck us with a bill. If this incompetent company was worth my time, i would take them to court. We had to call a different company to reassemble our system, fix it, and order a new thermostat. I will NEVER call Laney's again. read more

I needed a new kitchen sink and garbage disposal installed. I've used Laney's before and have always been happy with their service. They sent John K. to do the job and I could not have been more impressed! I made a small miscalculation on the size of the sink and it was slightly too big. I have been using Laney's for years on a variety of their services - electrical, plumbing, air conditioning/heat. With every visit, they are generally friendly and professional. I believe I've generally needed to block a couple hour time window for when they anticipate arriving, which could be worse compared to some 4 hour blocks I've had with other services. They'll call my cell phone before coming over, allowing me time to get home. At this point, I expect I will continue to use Laney's for any help I need. read more

If you need/want a professional to install a new tub and surround for you because you want someone who knows what they are doing, don't call laneys. They installed the tub but "conveniently" didn't put any concrete mortar mixture underneath the tub, despite having the concrete mixture on the order form. I called them after I had started to finish the drywall because of the creaking of the tub. Laneys came back out, free of charge, to use expansion foam to reinforce the tub. After they completed this, I review their work and they only put expansion foam at the end of the tub that wasn't creaking. I would avoid this company and relay your concerns to another company who won't cut corners, hoping you don't notice read more

We hate to be repetitive, but it is what it is. Today we had Laney's clean our ducts. Our house is almost 52 years old. We moved in four years ago. We know the ducts were cleaned at least once. (We followed a family who took great care with our house. They used Laney's too.) The tech Andy was meticulous. He explained exactly what he was going to do, then he followed through. Not only was my hub "very pleased," but he charmed our two rescue dogs as well. We really have nothing but high praise for everyone from Laney's. read more

My bathtub was leaking, so I requested a service. 1st man came and drilled a hole on the ceiling of the room downstairs and said that he didn't bring a tool to remove a pipe. The next day, he came back with a helper. They drilled a bigger hole and removed that pipe and said that the tub needs to be replaced. They gave a quote of $1,800. not including restoring the tiles. I denied the quote and hired a handyman to replace the tub, spent $350 on the tub and $700 on the labor, including restoring the tiles. I received a bill of $570 for drilling the hole and removing the pipe. I called to ask for an itemized bill statement because I want to know the labor and material costs, a lady told me that they can't provide it. I gave them two stars, because plumbing is not easy. read more

"What we have here is a failure to communicate" Horrible communication skills. Had them come over on a Wednesday to fix my air conditioning unit. They said they needed a part and would be back the next day. By the noon the next day I still hadn't heard from them. So I called and dispatch said they would have someone stop out in between jobs to take care of it. A couple hours later no-one had stopped by. I called again and this time they said that they had to order a part and they it MAY be available the next day. I asked them what part was needed and she said that she ask the technician and give me call back. I wanted to know what the part was so I could call other companies to see if they could be a little quicker about doing their work and I let the lady I was talking to know that was the case. The next day I waited until about 10am and still hadn't heard from anyone. I called in and dispatch said that they still didn't know what part was needed and they would have the technician call to give me an update. I think it was around two and I STILL hadn't heard from anyone. So I called and this time I asked for the manager right away to get to the bottom of it. The manager told me that he would contact the technician and get back to me. The manager called back saying the technician was claiming he had been keeping me up to date, that part was finally in, the technician would over soon to finish the job, and that it turns out that there was a possibility that even after replacing the parts it's possible it won't fix it. The technician FINALLY showed up a while after that. After installing the new parts the air conditioner it still wasn't working. This all took place over the hottest week of the summer. After all of that I decided to go with another company for the remaining work and will never use Laney's for anything EVER again. read more

Long story short. This fraud of a company wanted almost 1k dollars more than the next competitor for the same install. Same every thing. Same unit. Same amount of line. Same parts. Same venting method. Same everything. The salesman gave a quote over the phone. He said it was a guesstimate based off of a house they just did. I said I want an accurate estimate. He cane and was done in minutes, no measurements take . Said he would calculate the estimate and get back to me at the end of the day. Not even 3 min after he left my phone went off with his quote and it's what he said on the phone which tells me he's either lazy and used another quote, or they price all installs the same. He had the estimate done and hit send when he left. Every other quote I got was $1000 or more cheaper and the estimators actually used a tape measure. Like I stated, all the same materials used in the quotes yet this place was charging way more. read more

I've read some other reviews on Yelp about this company and can not speak for any of their services besides the one I needed them for, plumbing! I called at 9 am and they had someone over to my house by 11:30am. Jon F and his trainee Lucas were VERY pleasant and helpful! Problem was fixed in 35 minutes and they explained to me what was wrong and how I could perform maintenance on this in the future to prevent a service call. UPDATE (4.6.2017) - Kevin Wolf (President of Laney's) has contacted me regarding this review to clarify any problems/issues I have had (read below for more information on my initial experience). After a short conversation, I quickly learned that Justin did misinform me about the pricing. Kevin reassured me that the $40 price for inspection is correct and that they will refund the rest of the charge so that only $40 is charged. Kevin did mention that Justin is relatively new to the company, and apologized on his behalf. * I will change star ratings once this refund is received. WHAT HAPPENED?: Justin, the technician, came to our house in a friendly manner and asked about our problem. We explained the situation to him and he walked around the house to see potential issues. We concluded that the problem was the construction of an area of the house, so nothing that he can do himself. I was happy to at least find the problem to our heating. This whole process took about 10-15 minutes, and he did not use any tools - just a visual check with some checks like touching the vent after turning the heater on to see if it was warm or not. The problem lies when we got to the payment portion. When I first called Laney's, they have reassured me that the inspection will cost $40, and that is why I agreed to have them check our heating system. They were very clear that no other payments will be needed until after the inspection if work is needed to be done. Justin gave me a price of $115, saying that the $40 covers him just coming to our door step, and anything beyond that will be charged. I already felt cheated in this process, so I told him that I was quoted $40 for the inspection and that would be the total. He mentioned that it could be that the person who answered the phone is a new employee and does not know the pricing (either way, this would be an internal issue and not the customer's problem). His compensation for the differences was a mere 10% discount from the total price. It was better than nothing, but still, not $40. I usually do not write such detailed reviews, but this was a very negative experience. I was essentially charged over $100 for him to look around our house and tell me that this is a problem he cant fix. read more

The rate quoted was 5 times what I ended up spending at a competitor! $220 to replace a wax ring on a toilet and $200 to install a dishwasher! they said "we have to attach it to the counter and stated it would take 2 or more hours, attaching it to the counter consists of putting in 2 screws. The company I hired charged $75 per hour and finished both jobs in 1 1/2 hours for a bill totaling $125. To top it off Laney's sent a bill for $39 for a dispatch fee. Overpriced dishonest company that I will never call again. read more
