When exploring SF,I had no idea what I was doing. There was so much to see, so much to do that I had no idea where to start. Luckily I found this on my Google maps and it was a great trail. Walking through untouched land of growing flowers, plants and trees was something unlike I'd ever seen before. Make sure you dress accordingly with walking shoes and clothes to stay cool, I made the mistake of underestimating how much I would walk considering I was wearing sandals and jeans. There are inclines and stairs but there are rest areas to take breaks.We walked from the Golden Gate Park, Windmills and tulips and sutro baths and made it a trail so we could see everything without have to drive and find parking and I recommend doing the same! read more

I don't meditate, but I do contemplate and reflect. Hiking trails like Lands End are great for moments of solitude to ponder upon many thIngs...Like are the things you're doing, or what you place a high value on, really important in the grand scheme of life? Or are they just self-imposed societal norms? Well, you can ruminate on this and on where to get some good Asian food on nearby Clement Street afterwards. Views! Some of the very best to be had in San Francisco. The best thing is that you won't even feel as if you're actually in any city on parts of the trail, my favorite part. It's a little path into the beautiful nature that San Francisco has to offer - impressive views of the Golden Gate Bridge (fog typically included), and stunning ocean views! Keep in mind that along the way, there are a good number of fairly steep stairs. I didn't mind going up them, but not so much of a fan of coming down. Tourists and Locals: Remember again, to take caution wherever you park in San Francisco because there has been an epidemic of car break-ins all over the City. If you don't believe me, just Google it. It happened to us not long ago by the AMC Theater on busy Van Ness. The nearby Legion of Honor has started handing out professionally made cards warning of it to all their visitors. They didn't spend money printing those nice precautionary cards for the fun of it! This is one of my favorite little hideaways in San Francisco. One of my most cherished memories was taking a long, enjoyable hike during the winter in the Bay Area and reaching Land's End with the view of the shores during the entirety of the hike. It starts off as a leisurely walk (I had a coat, jeans and long boots in that day...I cringe thinking about it) through the forests with an open, wife trail, but it eventually gets a bit steep and slippery as you need to get down low to reach the beautifully aligned labyrinth. The significance of this recreation area is that you have a beautiful view of the a Golden Gate Bridge and gained knowledge about the history starting from the 1800s that made this place the way it is today. There are two places where the trail can be accessed: either the parking lot by the Sutro Baths or by the memorial. I would love to come back here again when it is safe to travel again. read more

Lands End - Land's End labyrinth! - Parks Near Me - San Francisco, California

This has been a really nice go-to spot for years. The views of the Bay Bridge are everything! Surprisingly it's never too many people when I come here and I really appreciate that. The vibe is right, the wind and cool air is always blowing and the views are BOMB! You can usually go into the visitation center for drinks, snacks, souvenirs and other things, but that's all closed due to COVID. There are several trails that lead to the beach or other hiking trails, and no matter what train you choose it's a good trail to travel. I reccomend you do a different trail each time if able. Some of the trails are a bit of an incline and you can tell when you start so hiker/walker beware. You can reach some really good heights out here and you know the higher up, the better the views. They have a really cool rock pile/circle that I refer to as Pet Cemetery (80s baby), and that's a good sight to see and photo op. With plenty of views, vibes, a cool breeze with sunshine and good excercise, I'm always going to be back time and time again. This is somewhere to be and see. Cheers! read more

If I could bottle the air and views from this location, I would keep it forever. I just finished a peaceful hike from Lands End lookout to Sutro Baths. This location is worth exploring every corner. We took our time enjoying not only the views in the distant but everything nature has to offer right in front of our eyes. Be sure to check out the souvenir shop! Believe the hype guys! I was worried abt the views bc we went on a foggy day but it cleared up really quickly. We spent so much more time playing on the beach than we though we would, climbed some big rocks, and saw so many dogs on the trail. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're a tourist, looking for good date spots, or want to take your family somewhere nice. Make sure you see atlas obscura and the sutro baths too! Are you looking for a place for a quick run, a place for an outdoor date, a place to have a picnic, or a place with a perfect view of the Golden Gate Bridge? Look no further, Lands End is ideal for all of these. As you start your journey on this costal trail, there are benches only in the beginning.  This stroll in the park is full of winding turns with each turn there are stunning views of the Pacifc coast and the Gold Gate Bridge.  Along the way you'll see the Labyrinth.  You can stop there or go all the way down to Mile Rock Beach.  There you'll see many rocks piled up giving this beach an artistic touch. Lands End is one of my favorite places to go to for a run. Btw this trail is not ideal for bike rides.  There are parts of the trail that have sand and your tires will surely sink in them. read more

And there's a place in San Francisco that I can listen & hum all the Enya I want! Lands End is a special place, that many sometimes overlook, a place you can find solitude and peace in a busy day, and sometimes a crazy metropolitan city. I've been here before, but had to rediscover the beauty of it. Lands End is pretty much a hiking trail that is located in a huge city. A hiking trail that leads to other hiking trails. There's really no "End" in site if you keep on going. Along the way take in the stunning sights of the Pacific, the North Coast, and of course the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. "Who can say why your heart sighs As your love flies, only time And who can say why your heart cries When your love lies, only time..." I highly recommend Lands End. There's several starting points, so I won't confuse you, but I started from the Cliff House side and followed the signs after the Sutro Baths. Of course since it's part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Parks it's free to the public - no one can beat FREE! You'll see signs explaining how Lands End was once home to the Yelamu Ohlone tribe who thrived here well before Spanish settlement began in 1776. A century later Adolf Sutro built the rails for the passenger steam train. Today, if you're lucky you can see coastal wildlife, or luckier witness the whales that sometimes enter the Bay. Walk the Labyrinth, too! In the end, it's a place for all to enjoy. Go solo or with the family. A place for casual hikers to the more experienced to enjoy! It's really up to you on difficulty level. You can turn around after the first lookout point of Golden Gate Bridge, or simply go on and on the trail that leads to other trails. Alas, so maybe I can't live happily ever after necking Enya in her medieval castle on the rolling hills of Ireland, but it's a'right I can always find inner peace, or as I say "my inner Enya";), at wonderful Lands End. Suuuuper beautiful here! You're able to see ruins of sutro saths, the labyrinth, the golden gate bridge, go down to mile rock beach, see a lighthouse, and so much more! The trail itself is not too hard, but if you're not in shape, it may be difficult as the trail has a lot of stairs, going up from sutro baths and going down to mile rock beach. It does get super windy and cold since you're right by the ocean the entire time, so make sure to have your jackets! Parking was not an issue since there are a few lots, but if you try to find parking at the parking lot right above sutro baths, it will defintely be difficult. 11/10 recommend to come here on a clear day! You'd be surprised how nice it is here. read more

Yay! Today I finally found the Labyrinth! Haha thanks to my sweetie. :) Lands End is a great hiking area with several different trails. You can start at any given area whether it's at Sutro Baths or etc. We saw some cute doggies along the way so it's definitely pet-friendly. I took my Moki here once, but I just kept holding her during most of the hike. Haha.. cause I'm way too protective of my baby. Definitely a great place to get a nice little workout. :) read more

Went here on a "PALS"entine's Day hike with my best friend. Him and I didn't know what we were getting into, but boy were we pleasantly surprised. The views were absolutely spectacular. You could see the Golden Gate Bridge clearly from many points. The hike was not difficult at all. The only thing is my calves are on fire today from all the steps up and back down we had to take on the trail. I loved the scenery and greenery all around me. My friend loved enjoyed himself immensely as well. If I had more time, I would've gone to the different smaller trails and seen where that could have taken me. 10/10 recommend this place for a fun adventure and outdoorsy goodness! read more

Great place to get a good view of the sunset and of the Golden Gate Bridge. Looking out into the Pacific Ocean, Sutro Baths, another name for this place brings a relaxing, scenic vibe that will leave you in awe. There are a few hiking trails available which are all dog friendly, so don't forget to bring your furry friends. There are also steps that lead to a beach further down the trail and a labyrinth that allows a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It can get cold here as the ocean's cold breeze will smack you with great force, bringing goosebumps to your skin, so dress warm! Parking can get a little out of hand, especially if there are a lot of tourists at that time of day, so be prepared to drive around to look for parking. read more

What a beautiful spot! Definitely worth the drive to get to it. It was a foggy (and chilly!) morning when we arrived. The parking lot fills up quickly. When we left there were multiple cars jockeying for our spot. Loved the views of the water and Sutro Baths. The small park facility here has restrooms and a gift shop. How have I never been to Lands End? Well it is Lands End. I've only gotten as far as Lands Middle. Okay, that's the Lands End of that joke HAH. Anyway, this offers hikes of a variety of distances, beautiful views of the water from various angles, and walks on the beach (but be careful because some rocky spots can hurt your feet). This is a popular spot on weekend evenings for both locals and tourists. A lot of people bring their cute doggies here. Oh and, of course, #instapics. BSA (bathroom service announcement): During the daytime, the visitor area/cafe has regular bathrooms, but when tons of people are there in evening, the choice is only very disgusting porta potties :/ PSA (parking service announcement): This spot has plenty of parking which is always a pro - especially since it can be a bit of a drive through the city to get there depending on where you are coming from. What a gem of SF! So happy it's been this well-preserved despite the sweeping changes across the city within the past decade. The best time of day to go is as early in the morning as possible- the fewer tourists and other hikers there'll be, and you'll get the maximum amount of fog. Otherwise most of the area is covered and the exposed sunny areas can be pretty unforgiving in the summer heat. There are lots of interesting remnants- the spiral rock maze being one of the most amazing ones considering the stones aren't actually that big and yet it has weathered many storms. Be warned the stairs area is one of the more strenuous places within Lands End- well worth the burn! read more

Really, really beautiful and fairly easy hike. Even though there were a lot of people at Land's End, there are multiple branching paths with some more crowded than others, so we got our fair share of crowded and quiet. Lots of great views of the the Golden Gate bridge and the bay. The Sutro Baths are located here, as is the somewhat underwhelming Labyrinth. My friend and I went on a cloudy day, but I would imagine the views of the Golden Gate on a clear day would be beautiful. We walked around for roughly two hours, but only saw a fraction of what there was to see. Parking near Land's End might be tough; we took Lyft but the parking lots looked packed/busy. read more

Easy to find & free parking lot! My cousin was visiting from SoCal and wanted to go hiking here. We came on a Sunday morning at 8:30. There were a good amount of people & dogs but it wasn't overcrowded. We could see Sutro Baths from the parking lot (there were a lot of birds in it). Pretty easy trail with a mix of dirt, sand & rocks. We went down a whole lotta stairs and then upwards to find the famous labyrinth! My cousin was being super touristy and took hella photos lol. Love Lands End! I came here for the picturesque views, which were gorgeous! I did a few of the hikes in the area, some of which offer great views of the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. Beautiful area (park) to explore at the very edge of the Outer Richmond where it meets the Pacific. You get beautiful sunsets, those flat top trees San Francisco parks are known for, ocean views, old bath ruins, ocean caves and that magical view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Lands End is a gem of a place to visit. Start at the Sutro Bath ruins (free parking) and make your way down to the walkway that leads to the cave. From the parking lot to the Sutro Bath ruins, there are sets of steps all covered in sand so watch where you tread. Explore and you will have a scenic ocean trail that will lead to spectacular views and it will be unforgettable. It's a popular place so you will have your mix of tourists, locals out for a walk or run and just people exploring and taking photos. Everyone is usually friendly. It's San Francisco, people... Say hello. Wave hello. No stiff upper lips in my city. I have yet to see the labyrinth but I'm excited to hear they recreated it after it was vandalized. I dont remember hearing about it when I was growing up so it's new to me... Enjoy the view and the ocean breeze. And Seal Rock.. dont forget it's in the distance. Lands End is beautiful! That being said, the crowds follow views/sights - especially at sunset. Don't let that stop you from going and watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean and the Sutro Baths. There are different dirt paths to walk around on, maybe bring closed toe shoes for that. There's even a little store/cafe to purchase snacks, coffee, hot coco, etc which proved to be helpful with my hungry boyfriend. read more

BEST PART OF SF!! LOVED THIS TRAIL!! Fresh air, beautiful scenery, tall trees! It really feels like you're in a different part of the world. My boyfriend and I took a bus to the Lands End Lookout from Union Square. The bus ride was really straightforward and only took about 1 hour. From the Lookout, we made our way to the Sutro Baths. The Sutro Baths is a must see!! There's a tiny cave where you can hear the gentle waves coming through. After our mini trip to the Sutro Baths, we took the Coastal Trail to get a closer view of the Golden Gate. Before heading back to the Lookout point, we walked down a few flight of stairs to Rock Beach! Let me tell you, it's also a must see! Everything is a must see here!! It's only a few more extra flight of stairs, and it's so worth it! That's where you can touch the sea foam! When you make your way down to Rock Beach, there's a mini trail heading up on your right, and there you'll see the Lands End Labyrinth! Overall, this is my favorite hike OF ALL TIME, even post rain!! Not only do you get to view the Golden Gate Bridge and hear the sounds of gentle waves while breathing crisp air, the Pokemon are poppin' on this trail. Definite must go!! read more

I took a friend of mine here as a sorry-I-missed-your-birthday-trip-to-Muir-Woods-for-a-job-interview makeup outing for a sunset picnic, and Lands End did not disappoint! Neither of us had ever been before, but I'd read online that Lands End had some of the best sunset views in the Bay. We arrived around 45 minutes before sunset (free parking! amazing) and meandered our way down through the golf course down toward the water, and set up our picnic once we arrived. Over the next half an hour, we were treated to an amazing sunset (seriously, probably one of the top 5 sunsets I've ever seen, check out the photos and decide for yourself) with the Golden Gate Bridge haloed in purple behind us and rolling oranges and pinks before us. We waited until the sun had almost fully set before heading back up to the parking lot, which was a little difficult but not horrible to do in the fading light. tl;dr: on a day with no fog, I'm not sure this sunset view can be beaten. read more

The hikes were on mostly paved pathways and allowed for beautiful scenery of the Bay Area, including countless great views of the Golden Gate Bridge! We stayed here to see the sunset. Wandered around Lands End on a perfect Saturday afternoon. Took in the incredible views at this little piece of nature in San Francisco. Quality: Lands End is a beautiful park that is found at the northwest corner of San Francisco. Its placement is perfect as it follows the bay out to the Pacific Ocean. As you traverse the eastern portion you are provided with stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the landscape across the bay. Then as you reach the west end the views turn to the Pacific Ocean, crashing on multiple beachfronts. There are plenty of offshoots along the path, allowing you to experience different perspectives and geographic features. Quantity: Not a particularly large park, but it has a hiking trail that is about 3.5 miles. Value: Free to park and visit. Ambiance: Lands End is located in San Francisco at the very top left corner. It is a remarkable pristine park considering its proximity to the tightly packed city. The park has a fairly busy main trail that winds its way across the park with multiple points along the way to stop and gaze at the area. It is a pretty easy trail to hike, though the steps can be a little daunting at different points. Be sure to check out the beach area, as crashing waves on the nearby rocks is quite a site. Crowd: While there was a crowd, considering the beautiful scenery and the perfect day it seemed relatively quiet. Service: A very well maintained trail with clearly marked signs and minimal garbage despite the numerous visitors. Parking: Free parking lots on both ends of the park. read more
