The place offers a parking lot for convenience and restroom on site. I set up my mat on the sandy shore at Crissy Field East Beach to view the "Opening Day on the Bay" boat parade, and it was perfect! Lots of unleashed dogs running around with their owners. Plenty of boats floating by. Great views of awesome SF landmarks, such as Alcatraz island. The park stretches all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge, with grassy fields and the Fort Point historic site located beyond the beach setting. I come here often, particularly for attending special events on the water while picnicking on the smooth soft sand. It's a great spot for relaxing with loved ones, and not too far from many other cool activities and offerings in the Presidio. read more

Every time we come to this beach, it's always packed with people and I really like the fact they opened up a cute little retail shop at the other end. I'm not too sure when that opens since we usually just go to the first section of the beach by the parking lot with our two puppies/huskies But this time we wanted to go on a long walk. It was only 1.5 miles to the little coffee shop on the other pier and it was easy to get to. There's always a bunch of parking spaces available and they have a really clean bathroom with a lot of stalls for women. There's also a surfer hose down area since a lot of people surf nearby. Our dogs really love running off leash here and the environment is very relaxing and you get the beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge along with the fog that randomly rolls in. We came here for a class field trip. Crissy Fields is very close to Golden Gate Bridge. There is actually a pier under the bridge. Nice beach area. People bring their dogs here so I be careful were you walk. . They have a decent bathrooms. It also has a shower area were you can clean up and wash the sand off. They also have a designated area for you to clean your dog after there done running around in the sand. Plenty of free parking. read more

Crissy field is an area that encompasses a grassy lawn, peaceful beach, and a marsh area. The field is great for dogs, and there are events held here sometimes. I like how the grass here is green all year-round while out of the city the grass on the hillsides gets dried up and yellow during the summer months. There's lots of dandelions, little daisies, mustard, and pineapple roots as well. The area has all around beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The lagoon is good for bird watching. Views of the Golden Gate Bridge and lots of lawn. Probably the most beautiful place in the city. The Golden Gate bridge itself isn't all that beautiful - but the surrounding areas are. Tourists are often disappointed with the bridge itself. "No lights?" or maybe they will say, "thats it?" The Golden Gate is whats to enjoy not the bridge itself. That old rusty bridge is not much to look at - I'll admit - its the green grass of Crissy Field and the hills surrounding the bridge and the fog rolling in. The sounds of wildlife and maybe a fog horn. The lights coming from Alcatraz. Perfect place for a picnic. Perfect place to take tourists. Go for a walk, bring some comfortable shoes. Maybe rent a bike here and drive over the GGB. I do think it would be one of the nicest places to live - just as close to here as possible - overlooking the Marina Green and having Safeway as a neighbor. I came her today after a stressful time at the Orthopedic surgeons office. It was nice to come here for a walk on the beach by myself and process my thoughts / brain dump some stuff that I've been holding onto. It was enjoyable to bask in the views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the bay, Alcatraz island and listening to the waves, the wind and dogs barking and playing with each other. I visited for the first time to attend a golden retriever meetup and I was pleasantly surprised! The whole area, the neighborhoods around here and everything are beautiful and clean. It seems like a very affluent part of the city. I was surprised the parking lot was large and parking was free!! Big plus there for me because I'm used to whenever I go into SF, struggling to find expensive parking the dogs played around the beach which was extremely dog friendly. There were a lot of people around as well and some nice walking paths it looked like. We ended up walking all over the area surrounding Crissy Field and are looking forward to coming back. read more

Crissy Field is one of my favorite places to go when I visit SF with my dog and having lived in CA my whole life, I have probably been a hundred times or more. I really love how beautiful and easy it is. There is almost always parking and people are there to relax and enjoy the scenery. There are tons of off-leash dogs for your pup to play with and most people are friendly and clean up after them. You can also see lots of windsurfers and water enthusiasts. On a clear day there are really lovely views and it's very walkable as there is a cement pathway along a good portion of the beach. SF can get busy and expensive and Crissy Field is a great place to take a moment and really enjoy what the city has to offer. read more

Incredible.. simply incredible. I've been to SF about 8-10x in my life or so, but never have I ever step foot on Crissy Field. I spent about 2 hours here my myself last Friday evening and got to watch the sunset. It was so incredibly peaceful and the views were absolutely breathtaking. We headed all the way to the end where there is a long dock and a warming hut with drinks and National park gift shop. There are picnic tables and lots of open beach and green space. Crissy Field contains my favorite beaches in SF, as well as a few of my favorite hiking trails. East Beach Lagoon Trail is a contender for prettiest trail in SF. (That feels a little weird to say, now that I know that Crissy Field used to be a military airfield, and that 87,000 tons of toxic waste were removed from it during my lifetime...) Crissy Field contains a mile of beaches with spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge (and no threat of nudity, like you might see on the other side of the bridge), a hiking/cycling loop, connections to other trails, over 110 species of native plants, a snack hut, and more. I first heard of this national park a couple of years ago, when the Parks Conservancy sent me a pack of postcards, and one was of Crissy Field. About a year ago, I was walking from Fisherman's Wharf to the Golden Gate Bridge when I spotted some signs that said "Crissy Field." I thought, "I may as well check it out, since I've had their postcard on my fridge for months." This turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. Crissy Field is magical. There's just something so peaceful about this park. The salt marsh is full of rare birds (over 135 species have been identified) that I've never seen anywhere else. I ended up coming back the day after that, and the day after that.. From the Golden Gate Promenade Bay Trail, the bridge that goes over the salt marsh is my favorite. If you keep walking straight along East Bridge Lagoon Trail, it will eventually lead you to the junction of Lover's Lane Trail (another favorite), Ecology Trail to Inspiration Point, or the Presidio Promenade, which leads to several other trails. (I've hiked all of these trails, and I recommend doing the same to anyone else who is able to. They can all be covered in one long day.) According to the Parks Conservancy website, Crissy Field is located on the "unceded ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the original peoples of the San Francisco Peninsula." Historically, the Ohlone used to use this area for sourcing and processing shellfish. Maybe that's where the peaceful aura comes from? The Parks Conservancy website has a very informative page on the indigenous roots of Crissy Field: https://www.parksconservancy.org/parks/crissy-field-history Information about the Ramaytush Ohlone: https://www.ramaytush.org/ When the Spanish arrived in 1776, they called this area El Presidio, and filled in the marsh lands and salt estuaries. In 1846, the U.S. army took over the Presidio. In 1915, it was the site of the Panama Pacific World Exposition. I always wondered why most of the buildings were knocked down-- one reason is because, when World War I started, the army needed a clear view of the skyline. So, they took down the buildings that were blocking their view. After WWI, the Golden Gate Bridge was built by 1937, making Crissy Field less ideal as an airfield location. So, it became a place to dump toxic waste. This is how it remained until the army stopped using Crissy Field in 1994, abandoning the massive dump they had created. National Park Services, the Golden Gate Conservancy, and the EPA took over, and with the help of donors and volunteers, by 2001, they were able to restore Crissy Field to what it is today. Coincidentally, I think I actually visited San Francisco for the first time ever in 2001, but have no memories of visiting or hearing anything about Crissy Field at that time. I feel like Crissy Field gets overlooked, but it's one of my favorite spots in the city. If you get the chance, you should definitely check it out. read more

No better place to be morning, noon and evening. If you're a water baby or a land lover, Crissy Fields is a place that you will adore! The Bay water has a calming effect. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge (GGB) is outstanding! Serving as a thoroughfare between Marina Green in the Marina District to the GGB, this outdoor space is a walkers-, runners-, dog- and family- friendly magnet. What a treasure for those of us who grew up here. Yesterday I enjoyed flybys of small Coast Guard planes and, in the past, Blue Angels fighters . Oh, there is the off chance you may see a seal head pop up from the water. He's curious about the people on the shore just as we are of the aquatic animals who venture into the Bay. Pelicans flying in a delta formation looks cool too. Miss seeing the dragon boat racers and the abundance of kite surfers. But..They'll be back once we get CoVid19 locked down. Don't be faint of heart. As San Franciscans, we get through earthquakes! We live with nature not against it. We cherish our open space. I have increasingly become more of a fan of Crissy Field. It just enough out of the way of the city even though it's just minutes away. This is my go-to spot for the dogs. They love it here and enjoy running free and booping noses with other dogs. In my experience everyone here seems to be very pet friendly regardless of being a pet owner or not. If you search down one of the paths, they have a map posted that shows sections for off-leash, on leash, or leashed if you can't control your dog areas. Didn't think to take a pic of the sign. If you are expecting great views of the Golden Gate, make sure it isn't a foggy day. My last visit, the fog completely swallowed the bridge views but never swallows the fun. Some of the other peaceful views here, are watching all the wind surfers and sailboats passing by. Of the many beaches in the bay, this is one of the cleanest ones I have been to. read more

Was here last month for Labor Day weekend, and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed myself immensely. Most ppl have masks and kept their distance. There were many Small gatherings families and they all managed to avoid overcrowding. In this difficult time, this place is the best remedy for your stress, depression, etc. because of the hikes and beach that you can spend your energy and forget your troubles. It's also a dog friendly park with many doggies on leashes (and a few without). Hope to return here again in the near future. read more

I run at Crissy Field. I also have been to the Sports Basement. They once had sculptures on display on the grass of Crissy Field, when SFMOMA was closed. I hope to visit the Japanese American museum that has started opening on weekends. After the races I participate in, my wife and I walk our little dog at the Tunnel Tops park. In sum, I've been there probably three dozen times, if not more. Within the city, this is my favorite place to run. It ranks high among sites to visit. People stroll, people watch, hang out, and so on. If you like the outdoors, this is like a vast front lawn stretching from Fort Point to Fort Mason (the Marina Green has a separate name; Crissy Field does not extend that far, so not to Fort Mason, but I consider it all the vast expanse of the Marina District). I write for two reasons. The first is to note if you are meeting someone or being dropped off by Uber, you need to be more specific than Crissy Field. It is too big to say just that. When I last took an Uber, the driver charged me extra; I had to change the drop off point to get to the East Beach. That's fine. The second is the microclimate dynamism. Tourists need to be forewarned. Summer in San Francisco is cold, and I won't repeat the quote attributed to Mark Twain, which is apocryphal anyway. It also is windy. The 10k I ran this morning started at 8am. It was so unpleasant, despite a wool cap, I wanted to hide out in the porta potty. Then I was worried the unit would blow over. That afternoon, my wife and I went to the Magic Theatre less than a mile away. It was sunny. But it was still windy. Bring a jacket, pack a hat. But go. read more

Sightseeing around the city, we happened to be driving by around 7pm ish, in late June and decided to stop by... it was a beautiful clear day. But this time, the park was not too busy, people were scattered and there was plenty of parking. It's a lovely place to go for a walk or have a picnic. There's also a pier and locals were catching crab. We were sOo lucky that the sky was so clear, we had such a gorgeous, close view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Alcatraz and the skyline was a bit further but just as clear in the other direction. As a tourist, it was such a nice (emo) feeling being able to take in the sights without the overwhelming crowd of other tourists. So quiet and peaceful! Because it was later in the day, whatever shops are typically open were already closed, we stayed close to the pier near small structures that appear somewhat neglected but I have no idea what's actually in it. read more

This place is ridiculously beautiful, and also ridiculously crowded. Came by on a Friday afternoon and the amount of people that were on this beach was insane. We were however able to find quick parking at the Yacht Club. There's a 10-15 walk I highly recommend taking where you walk from the Yacht Club to the place bordering Presido to having a picnic on the grass. There is definitely not as much people who are there and on a clear day, you really get the full view of San Francisco - Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island, San Francisco Downtown, Oakland, and Sausalito. Beautiful views and an awesome picnic spot. Will definitely come back again! Also the Palace of Fine Arts is just across the street! read more

When I was riding my bike from Fisherman's Wharf to the Golden Gate Bridge, this was one of my favorite spots to pass through. Crissy Field is so beautiful and peaceful. It was once a military airfield before it was renovated in 2001. Now it is a beautiful grassy park with bike trails, picnic tables, BBQ grills, and a tidal marsh. You get some amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge from here. I personally like all the birds that roam around the tall grass areas. There is a Warming Hut at the end that offers chocolate, tea, and coffee. read more

Crissy Field is an action packed and family friendly spot but do you know the tricks? Go early in the morning for quiet time and easy parking. Drive all the way out to the fort and watch the surfers or enjoy the kayaks cruise silently by. On this particular Saturday I found a painter tucked in to a picnic table protected by the wind by the old Coast Guard Station. The tables there are sturdy and a great view of the bridge. The picnic tables have handicapped end corners making it an awesome spot for all families. When I leaned against the sea wall there I found another artist sitting back to the wall and vowed to myself to come back to paint. Who knew? Now you do too. read more

This was my first time at Crissy Field Golden Gate Park. My first thought was how and WHY had I never been here before living in CA all my life??? First off, the homes on Marina Blvd were just amazing to look at. I think my jaw was hanging as we were driving by checking out the beautiful homes with stellar views. We drove on through and parked at the Sports Basement where we found parking with no problem and walked across the street toward the beach. What a beautiful view of the Golden Gate. It was so lovely to see people out in their social distance bubbles picnicking and hanging out on their blankets enjoying the sun and fresh outdoors. It was absolutely amazing to get out and see the ocean during this stay at home order time. It did my soul good and it was worth every minute. read more

when the weather is good, this is definitely one of my favourite places in sf...on a clear day, i have a perfect view of golden gate bridge, the sparkling water of the san francisco bay, the beaches that hug the marina, and all the people who pass through this popular area. years ago, i used to bring my nephew here to fly his kite...when the wind picks up, this place is definitely perfect for kite flying, all day long... it's also a great spot to put down a blanket and have a picnic, or just lounge around with your friends. it's also a great place to take a walk, go for a jog, walk your dog, pretty much any form of movement! parking can be a bit of a challenge...if you are arrive early, or on sunday morning, you can usually luck out and get free parking in one of the nearby lots or on the street. however, if you come later, or on a weekday, be prepared to circle and/or pay a pretty penny to leave your vehicle nearby. read more
