Loving the DJ pop ups here now. So lucky we live here

I've been going to Sutro baths for decades. It was cool then and it's even cooler now. Love the trails and the updated structures. Loving the dj pop ups! So lucky to live here and be surrounded by all this beauty

We had a lovely day at Sutro bath ruins where there is an amazing view and beautiful patch of calla lilies. It's quite a drive to get here but well worth it for a nice hike by the ocean and a view of the Golden Gate Bridge as well.

Parking everywhere, free and plenty Time: Sunrise to Sunset, please be respectful of the surrounding nature Be on the quieter side, don't overstep or destroy the pathway, clean up after yourselves Right next to the coastal trails where you can see Marin and the Golden Gate, another great walk Dog friendly and seen many visitors of many ages, kids and elderly There is the long staircase down to the beach, a secret cave!! and some rough rocky spots, but overall an okay walk

Parking is off the side of the road, but there are warnings signs not to leave valuables in your vehicle due to frequent break-ins.

We didn't make it down to the Sutro Baths; only saw it from the top of the hill. I can only imagine how it looked back in the day, but now it sits abandoned as the fog eerily rolls in. The National Park Service has information on the Sutro Baths, including historical photographs and links to other sites where it goes into more detail. Worth a visit to learn about this historic landmark. Parking is located off the side of the road. Signs are posted, warning not to leave valuables in your car due to theft. But other than that little warning sign, it's a place to consider dropping by and checking out.

Historical landmark, a public bathhouse that was huge in 1890 ish, too bad it doesn't survive till today, else it could be a very attractive tourist destination. Went to the visitor center to read the history of the area, you will be amazed how pretty the architecture was

This place is extraordinary. You can really see the vision that was here before it went into ruins. This place was really a cool and truly gigantic facility. The caves around to explore and ruins are truly amazing. You get to see the scenery that Mother Nature leaves behind. you can even walk down this hill to the ocean. I would go here any day to relax and sight see and explore. So much graffiti too! This truly gives the place so much character.

Sutro Baths is gorgeous if you happen to come here late June when the flowers are blooming and the hillside is green!

A few of my friends took me here and we got to see an amazing view. There's a hike nearby that people can take but if you want a spot to lookout at this place is perfect.

I never knew the historic significance of Sutro Baths. Such a unique concept and an eccentric site... If only I could go back in time and see the Baths in its glory days. Initially I thought an earthquake demolished the buildings. However, according to the NPS the entire site was slated for replacement with high-rise apartments. Boo! Well in hind sight that's just business I suppose. Either way it was an interesting piece of history, For more information check out the homepage: https://www.nps.gov/goga/learn/historyculture/sutro-baths.htm Also don't forget to pay Lands End a visit since it's around the corner...

The Sutro Baths was once a large saltwater swimming pool complex in the Lands End area. It used to be a classic Greek portal opened to a massive glass enclosure containing several swimming pools at various temperatures. Even nowadays I think the coastal ruins are still impressive, overlooking Seal Rocks, with ramps and stairs descending down to the collapsing walls and sea cave, and I would recommend visiting.

Sutro Baths is always beautiful and a good choice to bring guests visiting from out of town. I prefer it when it's sunny but when it's overcast it has a brooding mysterious look. The walk down the ruins is short but has 141 steps, so you get a little workout. There are a few paths going into a cave and the remains of an old bathhouse. It's extremely popular with photographers and I see a lot of photoshoots here. It's nice for a short walk but for something longer, continue on with the Lands End Trail for a 3-mile walk. Worth noting, be mindful of leaving anything in the car as that parking lot is a known hotspot for smash and grabs.

Before stepping foot onto these beautiful ruins, we took interest in learning about Adolph Sutro (former mayor of SF) and the history of the Sutro Baths, both online and inside the Lands End Lookout visitor center. We also admired the view from afar, taking breathtaking photos of this historical landmark with the water and sky adding to its unique beauty on a sun-filled Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed climbing the structure and exploring the bath remains up close, and just appreciating the surrounding atmosphere, a bit steep a climb, but worth it. We also checked out the nearby cave which was interesting and had no access to the rock formations leading to the water on the other side, but probably best for safety... still beautiful though. Parking was free and easy in the Lands End main parking lot, even on a somewhat crowded day.

Ask the Community - Sutro Baths

With the frequent break ins in SF, is there someone patrolling the parking lot?

I visit about once a month (mornings). And every time I park in the lot it seems a park ranger/or someone in a security van loops around. I can't say for sure how frequent it is but I see them every time I'm there.

Do you have to pay to get In?

This is the site of the ruins of Sutro Baths. It is free to visit.

My sister and I arrived before 8am at the Watershed parking lot and barely found a space. We did the trail that took us to the West Point Inn for the pancake breakfast and round trip was close to 5 miles so it was a great workout. There's gorgeous views and well! On the way back to the 101 however it's a mess. The road on the way down is crowded with parked cars, which makes driving through challenging. That's the only thing about this park, other than that I'd love to come back in spring when everything is green and vibrant!

Ever since then, I've wanted to hike this peak, today I have achieved my wish. Early June with mild coastal temp, 50s-60s. Started up Matt Davis Trail in the foggy forest, to Pantoll Campground, to West Point Inn where we can look down to the top of the fog layer, to the Fire Lookout building at the Peak. Then we came down reverse but split off to Steep Ravine and Dip Sea trail after the campground. I've also always wanted to climb that ladder. This hike provided views of the Pacific ocean on the West as well as views of Richmond-San Rafael Bridge on the East side. I thoroughly enjoyed the cool lush forest, but actually my favorite section was the single track along the slope of the open area after the Mt Tam State Park sign.

Let's also close down the streets from cars one day a week in the Summer so people can ride their bikes, skate, rollerblade, play and dance in the streets! How about on some warm weekend days we put huge concerts there that fill the grass for as far as the eye can see so people can bring all their friends to enjoy food, drinks, and music together. And the lake... let's make it so people can rent boats, and if they don't or can't row, they can peddle so they, too, can enjoy the waterfall and life on the lake! Let's also have beautiful statues around the park, definitely a Shakespeare Garden, and let's throw in something for garden lovers, like a Botanical Garden (a big one) and a Conservatory of Flowers. For more culture, let's add a Japanese Tea Garden with more lakes and flowers, and even a bridge in the shape of a circle. Let's also make this accessible to everyone, so some days, the museums are free (ie, usually once a month). And some entrance fees are lower for locals. (Check the websites.) We really enjoy coming to Lafayette Park Playground this morning for an early Easter egg hunting…read moreevent--it's quite unique compared to other playgrounds in the city. The layout is more challenging and perfect for little explorers who love to climb, balance, and stay active. My 3-year-old always finds something new to do, and it keeps them engaged for a long time. I also appreciate that babies aren't left out--there are designated areas where younger kids can safely play too. The restroom is conveniently located and clean, which is a big plus for families. That said, some of the rocky edges can be a bit risky for adventurous kids, so it's definitely a place where you'll want to keep a close eye on them at all times. The only downside is parking--it can be pretty tough to find a spot, especially during busy times. Overall, it's a fun and exciting playground that's great for kids of different ages, as long as you're prepared for a bit of supervision and a parking hunt!
