The station…read moreis clean, modern, and well maintained, with plenty of seating and some of the cleanest public restrooms I've seen at a train station. There are friendly ticket agents on-site if you need assistance purchasing tickets or have questions, but I highly recommend buying your tickets in advance through the Amtrak app or website--it's quick and easy. The staff at the ticket counter were fantastic, and the onboard crew was equally friendly when they scanned our tickets. A little history: the station opened in 1995 as part of the revitalization of Jack London Square, the historic waterfront district named after famed author Jack London, who spent much of his youth in Oakland and drew inspiration from the waterfront for many of his stories. Outside the station you'll also find a statue honoring C.L. Dellums, the influential labor leader and co-founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, after whom the station is officially named. This station is primarily served by the Capitol Corridor, with trains to Emeryville, Berkeley, Richmond, Martinez, Davis, Sacramento Valley, Roseville, and Auburn. If you're planning a long-distance trip on one of Amtrak's sleeper trains--such as the legendary California Zephyr to Denver and Chicago--you'll need to board at the Emeryville Amtrak Station, which is the Bay Area departure point for most long-haul Amtrak routes. We rode Train 724, a comfortable double-decker, from Oakland to Sacramento Valley. The trip took just a little over 2 hours, and I highly recommend sitting on the upper level for the beautiful views along the route. The ride was smooth, relaxing, and the seats were spacious with plenty of legroom to stretch out. Food was served on board for purchase and free WiFi. If you're traveling with a bike, designated Capitol Corridor bike cars have onboard bicycle racks. Most bikes do not need to be boxed, and you can secure them with your own lock while onboard. Traveling with a furry friend? Small cats and dogs up to 20 pounds (including the carrier) are welcome with a reservation for a $29 pet fee each way. I also noticed several great promotions available when I visited: * Buy one ticket and bring up to five friends or family members at 50% off with promo code V302. * Seniors (62+) receive 15% off with code V282. * Kids ages 2-12 receive 50% off (up to seven children with each adult fare). * Active military members receive 15% off with code V780. Overall, this was an excellent experience from start to finish. Friendly staff, a spotless station, comfortable trains, and a relaxing way to travel without dealing with Bay Area traffic. Whether you're taking a day trip to Sacramento or connecting to a cross-country adventure from Emeryville, Amtrak is a wonderful way to travel. Highly recommended. Cheers!

Both my son who lives there and my other son who goes down to visit him often, say that the trip is comfortable and scenic. This station in particular is clean and well-run. FYI: If it's the winter and you have to wait inside--it's still cold. We get there early to check in luggage and wait in the car. Parking is limited.
