Driver showed up right on the dot. The vehicle was a big clean SUV, plenty of room for luggage, and the ride to the airport was smooth and safe the whole way. Got dropped off right at the door we needed, which matters when you're pulling bags out at a busy terminal. The part I appreciated most was the billing. They invoiced me after the trip, so there was no scrambling for a card or working out a tip with the driver in the moment. Zero hassle on departure day, which was the whole point. The BART red line train from SFO to Powell did not have a next station sign or announcement to tell us which station the train is approaching! Info is particularly important for the SFO line, because people arriving at an airport may not be familiar with the layout of the city. Some other trains had a good announcement and displays. 2 Some routes were seriously noisy: in the tunnel approaching Embarcadero from the north, it briefly reached 100 decibels (dBA) and was usually about 92-93 dBA. 3 Several times, we loaded just enough money onto the Clipper card according to the posted fares and then could not exit because we owed an extra 25c! So, the posted fares may have been 25c too low. This must be a recurring issue, as shown because the employee often came up and paid 25c to let us exit.

There are friendly ticket agents on-site if you need assistance purchasing tickets or have questions, but I highly recommend buying your tickets in advance through the Amtrak app or website--it's quick and easy. The staff at the ticket counter were fantastic, and the onboard crew was equally friendly when they scanned our tickets. A little history: the station opened in 1995 as part of the revitalization of Jack London Square, the historic waterfront district named after famed author Jack London, who spent much of his youth in Oakland and drew inspiration from the waterfront for many of his stories. Outside the station you'll also find a statue honoring C.L. Dellums, the influential labor leader and co-founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, after whom the station is officially named. This station is primarily served by the Capitol Corridor, with trains to Emeryville, Berkeley, Richmond, Martinez, Davis, Sacramento Valley, Roseville, and Auburn. If you're planning a long-distance trip on one of Amtrak's sleeper trains--such as the legendary California Zephyr to Denver and Chicago--you'll need to board at the Emeryville Amtrak Station, which is the Bay Area departure point for most long-haul Amtrak routes. Traveling with a furry friend? Small cats and dogs up to 20 pounds (including the carrier) are welcome with a reservation for a $29 pet fee each way.
