He approached me apart from the company that cut down the tree, to do the stump grinding. I was reluctant to proceed because he had also subcontracted for a company that gave me a quote for sod and removal of another blue spruce stump. That was not done properly but he promised he would make both right because he was going to use a larger machine. We agreed on $350 for both. He knew that I wanted to regrade the entire area. He scratched at it for about an hour and told me it was done. There was a pile of wood chips but when I went to rake it into the surrounding area it was obvious very little was done (see pictures). I contacted Nathan and he said he would be back within two weeks to finish the job. That was the last time I heard from him. I tried email, texting, calling and through KIJIJI- no response. He was very personable and maybe that was all just an act. I would not recommend using Rooted Solutions for anything. He might think I will just give up, I don't. I'll be going to small claims court to get my money back. I have learned he uses a phony name for this scam. His name is not Nathan Smotrycki. His real name is Nathan Goudreau. Stay away from this punk!

The whole process could not have not been any easier! Gary quoted the job while I was at work so…read morehe came by the next day for us to sign the contract. We just bought the house in the late winter and he walked around the property with us and told us what kind of trees we had (to me, a tree is a tree). He explained what was going to bloom and when. We learned so much about our landscaping from him! The project involved cutting down a spruce tree that was touching a chimney (fire hazard, says homeowners insurance) and trimming a locust tree that was touching the garage roof. Thankfully he prepared me that locust tree had not been trimmed in very long time and had a lot of dead branches in it so they would wind up cutting it back by about a third. We still had not moved in yet and the crew was well into the job when I arrived the day they started the work -- and I'm so glad Gary mentioned that they would be cutting it back the locust tree so much. In hindsight, it really needed it! I saw the limbs and branches that were on the ground and they were in bad shape. The crew manager explained that the guy removed the dead stuff and cut it back off the roof and was in the process of shaping the tree so it was aesthetically pleasing. It wound up looking very good and I'm excited to see how it looks once it has leaves (should be soon as we're mid-April). The crew was in and our fairly quickly. The cleanup was amazing! You'd never know that they cut down a tree and did substantial trimming on another tree as every single twig was removed! I would definitely contact Gary again for any tree service! Thanks Gary!

It took them a while to get out to us but they kept in touch to let us know we were not forgotten. When they did finally get here, they were very nice and did a great job. Will definitely recommend and will call for any tree work I need done in the future.

Unreliable owner, irresponsible employees…read more Dan's Tree Service did some work for my next door neighbour in the spring. For some reason they thought it would be a good idea to park their multi-tonne truck on MY lawn in what is clearly marked a no parking zone. This resulted in rather significant damage to my lawn. I pointed this out to the crew leader who admitted their folly and promised to repair the damage. After several weeks I called the owner Dan to inquire why my lawn was not fixed. Dan was again apologetic and actually showed up 15 minutes later to see the damage for himself. Again I was promised they would repair the damage they caused. I would point out I was calm and reasonable with both Dan and his employee, I just wanted my lawn fixed. So now after three months I've had to repair the damage myself because the ruts were ruining my lawnmower (it was bottoming out). So thanks for nothing Dan! Long story short, don't hire Dan's Tree Service if you like your neighbours.
