Terrible at communicating. They don't listen and gaslight saying you requested plants that you specifically told them you do not want. Find someone who cares about what you want and isn't just trying to run the cost up and move on to the next project. read more

A homeowner, I am really impressed by the personal dedication these folks have to getting stuff right. It obviously bugs them if things aren't perfect. Unfortunately, like most businesses right now (May 2022) they face labor shortages and consequently, there are limits to what they can do and when. They just came out to my place for what I thought was one problem, which was actually several, owing to a weird vestigial part of the piping system. They got everything working well. Previously, they installed a gorgeous gabion for us. Finally, I prefer to patronize companies that employ a variety of people, w/o discrimination. I was pleased that a tech was female. read more

Land Effects is newly contracted with our HOA neighborhood and it is quite possibly the worst landscape company. They are unprofessional, careless, lazy and use toxic products that are not cleaned up properly afterwards. They do not follow which houses are clearly marked NO SPRAYING. The fertilizer is strewn throughout the sidewalks and streets for all the animals to ingest and they do not care to clean it up. read more

So I hired Land Effects to clean up the dead plants in my front yard and I got home just as they were leaving. Guess what I did for the next hour after they left. Got down on my hands and knees with a small clipper and cleaned up and trimmed all the plants they didn't get! How much did they leave? Enough to fill 1/4 of my yard waste bin! I hired Land Effects thinking they would be more professional than the cheaper third party I hired last year. I couldn't have been more wrong! read more

We hired Land Effects, Inc. after reading claims about the expertise of Land Effects' owners and staff at Land Effects' website. We agreed to pay $280 per month for weekly landscape maintenance, which was to include: starting irrigation in the Spring and blowing out irrigation lines in the Fall; careful monitoring of irrigation times and coverage; mowing; edge-trimming; weeding lawn and beds; and trimming shrubbery. We agreed to pay extra for thatching and aeration, whenever recommended by Land Effects. Before we hired Land Effects in 2011, our healthy blue grass was 2 1/2-3 inches in height and watered every other day. Land Effects cut our grass shorter than 2 inches, began watering twice a day, and fertilized frequently. Eleven weeks after Land Effects started, our lawn developed Necrotic Ring Spots (NRS). Land Effects claimed that our lawn was infected with NRS fungi before Land Effects began maintenance. We accepted Land Effects' claim and agreed to pay for expensive fungicide spraying of our lawn. We have since learned that too-frequent watering and fertilization, shortening blue grass to less than 2 inches, inadequate thatching and aeration, and/or failure to disinfect equipment can bring NRS to a previously uninfected blue grass lawn. Tim, one of Land Effects' two owners, admitted that Land Effects' crews 'see a lot of NRS' in the lawns of Land Effects' commercial clients AND that Land Effects cleans its equipment only once per week. We have always paid Land Effects' bills early; and we paid for thatching and aeration whenever recommended by Land Effects. We live elsewhere in Fall and Spring. On May 31st of this year, we learned that Land Effects had failed to start our irrigation system. Our lawn was brown and dying. Land Effects abandoned our property despite the promise of Tom, the other Land Effects' owner, that he'd monitor our lawn very carefully this season. Also, Land Effects had promised to have our lawn sprayed with fungicide this Spring. On May 31st, Land Effects started watering our lawn, for long periods every day, and arranged for the fungicide spray. Large areas of our lawn remain dead. Land Effects has refused to fix the dead areas at no cost to us. Also, our NRS is proliferating; and overwatering has made the roots of our grass unhealthily short. Every week, the Land Effects crew has rushed to mow and edge our lawn. However, our beds and lawn have many weeds, and our shrubs have not been trimmed. Irrigation coverage has been inconsistent, and misaligned or broken heads haven't been fixed until totally brown areas develop. We have terminated our relationship with Land Effects. Based on our unhappy experiences with Land Effects, we cannot recommend this company. read more

I have used Land Effects for many years (5) to winterize my sprinkler system. After charging $75 per year for the service for the last three years (2018, 2019, 2020), out of the blue they billed me $220 for the same service this year. No notice of any price increase, no notice that the method of charging had changed, nothing. This is an increase of 193%. More disappointing, when I reached out to investigate, I received little help or explanation. Needless to say, I won't be using Land Effects for any work in the future. read more

They do our Spring and Fall Cleanups as well as maintaining our sprinklers. We have no complaints. They do a great job!

I used Land Effects for the past 2 summers. I am not sure why I kept using them as they did not follow through on their commitments. I hired them in the summer of 2016 to perform weekly maintenance and paid in advance for the service. When I came home at the end of the summer our house sitter told us that they rarely showed up and when they did all they did was mow - there were none of the extra services performed that were promised when I agreed to use their services. The yard was a bit of a mess. I contacted the company and was given a small refund. I hired them again the following summer (2017) to do a clean up on the yard and move some small shrubs, trim some trees, etc. I was given an estimate of the work cost. The crew that came out was amazing and did the work in a couple of hours. I was then billed for the full amount of the estimate! This came out to over $300/hr for yard work! When I, again, contacted the company I was again given a small refund, but the cost was still very high compared to the hourly rate. I agreed to use them one more time (not sure why) and we agreed to do time and materials. When I received the invoices I had been double billed for the irrigation work. It appeared on the initial invoice and I was then invoiced again for a further $300+ for the irrigation work that was listed on the initial invoice (thankfully, I had asked them for a detailed invoice which they didn't usually provide). I sent them an email pointing out the double billing and stating I wasn't paying the second invoice. I never heard from the office regarding any of my concerns although I had asked to speak to the owner. I actually spoke to the owner at my property when I initially set up the weekly maintenance in 2016. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in the service (or lack thereof) that was provided by Land Effects and feel that their billing lacks attention to detail. I will not be using them again. I am a small business owner and work very hard to deliver a good product to my customers and go out of my way to do so. I do not feel that this is Land Effects company policy. read more

There is a lot to say, most of it not good. Steer clear if you value your landscaping and trees. I had them plant five trees, four Ponderosa Pines, and one Crab Apple tree last year. I noticed that when they planted them they didn't add any soil conditioner or fresh soil, not sure if they used starter fertilizer or not. The representative, Tim Schmidt, said they do that on purpose as they find if you put in soil conditioner the roots tend to remain in that local area and don't grow out. That didn't sound right, so spoke with two other nursery personnel and they don't me that was bull. So I added top dressing, fertilized and hoped for the best. Also bought more trees from another source and they planted those properly. About a year later, one is close to dead, one looked like it was going to die and seems to be coming back, and the three others haven't grown much but seem to be OK. Crab apple tree is growing but doesn't look half as good as other similar trees. Looks a bit distressed too. Last attempt to reach Tim has gone unanswered. Don't count on them being responsible and replacing dead trees. Tim is a coward and won't answer. Add to that, after planting I noticed that three of them were delivered already infected with the local moth larva. Tim didn't say anything. Fortunately I have been able to dig them out, and after a few times so far they have not returned. Land Effects also installed all the original landscaping at this house, which I bought about two years ago. During the first summer I noticed that many of the trees were distressed because they weren't getting proper water. One almost died, but I think I caught it in time and added appropriate emitters. Looks like they put the sprinkler system in without much regard for where the plants and trees were going to be, and then didn't bother to make adjustments. Want good trees and landscaping?
