    Thanksgiving morning 2010.
    Augusto D.

This is my first time to volunteer for this organization, and I have to say that I'm very impressed. The staff is not only professional but also friendly, and knowledgeable. The entire Thanksgiving operation went smoothly. In the kitchen the volunteers were lined up to prepare and wrap the food plates as efficiently as possible. The volunteers who drove the food to their destination were given designated scheduled times to drive-up the loading zone to make sure the whole pick-up operation as streamlined as possible. I took a bunch of pictures. You can see the volunteers in action. View them on my site: www.augustodecastro.com. Just click on the Lanakila Meals on Wheels link. MOW Baked Chicken Dinner. For the younger, just add salt. 3/5 not bad at all.
    GLENN F.

Tonight I was able to taste a Meals on Wheels dinner. It came frozen, an over night defrost in the refrig, and a 3 minute micro. Everything was bland which I expected. Added a little salt and the dinner became a 3/5 stars. Not bad. I'm reviewing it for all the elderly and needy families on the list. Also may ask them to send meals to my Mom when I'm out of town. She no longer drives. I got about 8 different dinners and will review them all!

I wanted to get a group of friends to help out in the community as my birthday celebration.

On our way back to the car I decided everyone needed dessert so I stopped here to look and see what they had. Not sure if it's new, but they had PAVLOVA, which I've been missing ever since Neiman Marcus closed. They had this great fruit pavlova at Espresso Bar. We got the pavlova, and a parmesan chicken pot pie, & a chocolate pie. It was so cute and they had put it in a bag in a box in a bag so we could easily flip it over when it was time to eat. By the time we got home we had flipped the whole thing over because it was raining and we were carrying too many bags (oops) so it was so long beautiful, but after dinner two of us split it and it was SO GOOD with its pineapple, haupia, & lilikoi flavors. I would totally recommend these! Get two!

The crust was perfectly golden and flaky -- not soggy, not too thick, just that buttery, shatter-when-you-touch-it kind of crust. Inside was creamy, savory goodness packed with tender chunks of chicken and veggies that still had a little bite. It tasted homemade in the best way, like the upgraded gourmet version of something your favorite aunt would make. But the real surprise star? The strawberry banana custard pie topped with mochi. I did not expect to love this as much as I did. The custard was silky and not overly sweet, the strawberries added a fresh brightness, and the banana gave it that smooth, mellow flavor that tied everything together. And the mochi on top? Such a fun, chewy texture contrast that made every bite interesting. It somehow felt light and indulgent at the same time. Savory, sweet, creamy, chewy -- this place understands balance. I would 100% come back just for pie... and that says a lot.

They are sold as singles, doubles and they also cater too. Our favorites include the Lilikoi & Peach, Mango, and Ube flavors. The scones are incredibly moist with a nice crisp crust. The scones are half the amount you would pay outside of the kitchen, and it's recommended that you come to pick up the baked goods in the early morning. What is also served here are Kupuna lunches to go. Prices range from $6 to about $12. They typically serve three dishes per day. The monthly menu can be found on their website. There is no phone number to call, so I emailed them, and emailed again a couple of days later, and again a couple of days later. I did eventually hear back and was given a $30 dollar coupon for another order. Essentially I paid nearly $70 for about $25 worth of vegetables (for me to buy the missing proteins was almost $45). I did place a second order with the coupon and no issues with delivery on the second order. Pros: delivery is convenient, meals are not hard to make, instructions are pretty clear. Cons: POOR customer service, cannot include some meals from the regular menu and some from the gluten free (it is one or the other), meals are not overly flavorful, no cooling packs / ice in the delivery boxes and no effort to place the box in the shade on my porch (box was left in direct sun and was very warm when I got home -- likely effected quality of the vegetables)

After scouring the internet for ideas, I stumbled upon Go Ramble's grocery delivery service and knew immediately this was going to be an awesome way to make their vacation that much more relaxing. The ordering process through the website was a breeze. There are great package options, however I opted for a customized list so I could add some goodies that would spoil my parents. My list included the usual eggs, milk, bagels, etc, with the addition of special items such as wine, cheese, and rotisserie chicken. I uploaded my list and waited. About 8 hours later I got a call from Diana with a friendly ALOHA! to start this terrific experience. It was pretty obvious Diana's labor is one of love. Not only did she clarify the items on my list, she suggested to add certain Hawaii staples that I wouldn't have even thought of! For the curious folks, those items include Macadamia Nut Chocolates, fresh fruit, and Tuna Poke salad that she guaranteed my parents would die for. I gave Diana the details of my parents' trip and so the rest of the surprise was in her hands. Fast forward to 2 days later. My parents had a 9hr flight to Oahu, and by the time they got to their hotel they were famished. They entered their room that had a breathtaking view, and a little something something extra... A huge basket of goodies on the kitchen counter (see photo)!! It took them a minute to add 1 + 1 and they called me squealing with happiness because I saved them from the hassle of figuring out where to get food. The food held them over for about 3 days and everything was fresh and tastey! I put my trust in Diana to pick certain items like wine and cheese by giving her a general idea of what they liked, and she delivered above and beyond! Not to mention that infamous tuna poke salad that my mom still raves about!! All in all this experience was great for all parties involved and I will definitely be using this service for my own purposes when I go to Hawaii in May. Skip waiting in line folks, and get your vacation on!!

5-7-2020 updated review: 4 th and final delivery…read more For the convenience of not having to leave your home, once your account is set up and you are put on a route, then it's an option to consider. Quality of produce varies- now that businesses will be opening up next week, timing was perfect. For myself, I'd choose fresh and unblemished produce. Percentage wise, 70% of the time the items were okay. The remaining items I'd personally would have not chosen the quality of some items I.e., wilted, slimy ends in plastic bag, blemished dings or scratches on items, nicks in skin of produce. For this last order the items were good. Unlike last week's driver, who rang the doorbell, different driver today never sent a final text or notification that produce had arrived. With this heat, lettuce would suffer. Be cautious. My four deliveries were a gift yet I received a message after my 3rd delivery that I owed $50+- unbelievable. Also was told someone put a hold on my delivery and did I want to activate up again. Seemed screwy, and undoubtedly alarming to me. I tried to keep calm and composed so that there wouldn't be a backlash on what was in my final bag. I'm glad someone surprised me with this as a gift. Gave me the chance to experience delivery to my front door. Rocky start but remaining 3 deliveries got better. Super glad I received regular sized tomatoes and head lettuce vs loose leaf for this ending delivery. Live and let learn. Note: you need to be a lover of veggies. My crisp bin still has some unused items from last week's delivery even though I cooked daily and incorporated veggies at least twice daily. I didn't want to see another carton of tiny tomatoes for a LONG time, honest! Thankyou my gift giver and mahalo to the person who bagged my produce today- awesome job today. Okay, all pau, literally, the end.

My husband signed up for a weekly bag that he would pick up at Ala Moana on Saturday. The items in the bag depend on what is available, so you do not get a choice of what goes in the bag. It is $30 per each bag. There are about five or six items per bag. Bags have included onions, green onions, bok choy, small pineapple, sweet potatoes, small Thai watermelon, grape tomatoes, green beans and lettuce. You better like lettuce since every bag contains lettuce that is about half the bag!! Unfortunately you cannot choose the items in your bag, so you might end up with items that you don't like or want. In general most of the items looked reasonably fresh. The problem with the service is that there is no quality control. In our last bag, they were two onions and both were completely rotten. I can't imagine the person who put them in the bag didn't notice that they were rotten. There is no consistency when it comes to the quality of the produce. Also considering that the bag is pricey for what you get, so you would expect that all the items in the bag were of usable quality. Needless to say after getting some rotten items, we canceled our service.
