Visit was ok. Doctor was pleasant. However she did a pap test and left the tester glass bottle without my name on it, no date, nothing. I went to other doctors and they ask you twice to verify your name and details while they are writing them on the tester. Mix ups already happen in the lab, but not writing my details on the tester bottle ?? very very unprofessional. I do not trust the result, I will be going back to another doctor. I do not recommend this office, they are sloppy. read more

She didn't understand my situation and has made up an assumption that it won't change anything so either she can help me to cancel the appointment or not. The point here is - the front desk receptionist is not a medical doctor. She has no right to decide anything for me. They try to charge you copays at every turn even when they could work with you to bill them as preventive. My friend actually got written out a personal check after she called them out on it. The front desk women are also incredibly rude. I also suspects she overtests. Google "yearly pap guidance" and you'll see it's no longer recommended for women to get pap smears annually. Lana has been my gynecologist for the last three and a half years. A friend referred me when I first moved to the city in 2016 and I have never looked back. Tests and procedures in her line of work are...invasive...to use a mild descriptor. Lana is incredibly quick, very gentle, and spends no more time than is absolutely necessary to get her work done and have you on your way. Whether you are calling to schedule your annual visit, or you have an urgent issue that needs her attention, she is there for you and will do all that she can to keep you calm and in tip top shape. Efficient, empathetic, and just a really nice lady. Women in New York City need more doctors like Lana. read more

Dr. Boter is wonderful. She's gentle and kind, and she has a great bedside manner, which is really important to me. I've had a few really awful, unpleasant experiences with OB-GYNs in the past (mostly through my college's student health center, when I was a student... shudder), but visiting Dr. Boter is like a breath of fresh air. She's very patient and a great listener, and she'll chat with me when I launch into nervous chatter mode while, you know, getting down to business. And of course, she's knowledgeable and great at putting things in perspective. Her staff is also super nice. Not in a cuddly, frilly way, but in a competent, effective way, free of the attitude that's the hallmark of New York customer service. Bottom line: she's great. I moved from my old neighborhood where my old doctor was, and since I was kind of "eh" about him anyway, I decided to try someone new. I needed a routine checkup and Dr. Boter was recommended to me by a coworker (same insurance, yipee). I was a little skeptical on arriving at her office, but the staff was very welcoming. I'm someone who gets nervous when going to the doctor, for no real reason, but when I met Dr. Boter I felt she was very easy to talk to. She answered all my questions and was generally helpful and friendly. I had to get some blood taken as well, and the assistant who did that was also very kind, and gentle with my crappy veins. She totally understood and was doing everything she could to make me feel comfortable. Asked me about my job, my boyfriend, life, and before I knew it the exam was over. Horrible receptionist. So rude. I took an hour to get there, but due to the miscommunication my appointment got canceled. The receptionist insisted that it was her fault, but it happened anyway. She didn't even say sorry. It seemed like they didn't even care for patients and gave me such an attitude. It is beyond unprofessional and so rude. I didn't meet the doctor, but they should train their staff better how to treat patients. I've been trying to contact Dr. Boter to question the billing and ask why I was told to come in to discuss my results and then given an exam unexpectedly that cost me $1000. She won't take my call and there is no office manager to discuss this with either. Honestly, Dr. Boter seemed amazing and warm, but this is unethical and wrong. I'm surprised at the number of positive reviews. I was looking for a new OBGYN and was very encouraged by the comments regarding Dr. Boter's good bedside manner. I had the complete opposite experience. Dr. Boter was dismissive and not interested in discussing solutions to my health issues that work for me. She was unable to deviate from her prompt of questions on her iPad and have a conversation with me as a person and a patient. I had a couple of questions regarding blood tests and she quickly became frustrated and made some very unprofessional remarks. The whole experience was bizarre, upsetting and made me feel very uncomfortable. A doctor who cannot answer questions without resorting to condescending to her patient and becoming visibly frustrated does a disservice to women who are seeking compassionate care and to the medical community at large. Please take this outlier review into consideration and find better care elsewhere. read more

Update! So I've been coming here for a few years because it's convenient and Dr. Boter makes me feel comfortable....but the staff that works there and takes the calls are no reliable. I called on Wednesday to have them call in a prescription that I need tomorrow(Saturday), gave them the pharmacy number and everything. Didn't hear from the pharmacy so I called the dr's office again today around 1-2pm, another woman answers and tell me that they have no record from the first call. So I tell her, I need my prescription tomorrow and she says not a problem and asks me for the pharmacy number. I called the pharmacy on my way home from work and they haven't heard a peep from the office. The doctor's office has NO ACCOUNTABILITY, no matter how nice the doctor is, this now make this whole office unreliable. So disappointing. Looks like many of the previous reviews also are about the receptionists. Such a shame that something that has nothing to do with doctor is making her look bad. read more

If you're a woman living in NYC, you know finding a gynecologist you like is no easy feat. I was seeing Dr Podolsky whom I really liked but had to find another doctor when my insurance changed. I was incredibly pleasantly surprised when Dr Boter was not only a perfectly sufficient substitute, but also had a shorter waiting period, and more convenient location. Dr Boter took her time getting to know me which is always appreciated considering how intimate an annual exam is. She was extremely knowledgeable without being pushy. She was patient with my questions and didn't rush me in the slightest. She's super sweet, has a good sense of humor AND - most importantly - is a dog lover. Would recommend 10/10 read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Boter for many years. She is fantastic but I am leaving her practice because of the office support staff. They are inflexible and will not write me an additional month of my prescription to hold me over until my appointment in 2 weeks (13 months since my last appointment). They will also not connect me directly with Dr. Boter. Will find a practice that is more concerned with supporting my health needs than collecting money from insurance. read more

Ordered two unnecessary tests. Aside from the hassle of extra appointments, insurance didn't cover all costs so I had to pay out of pocket. (All results came back negative. The radiologist thought I was crazy for coming in the first place, she even asked why did the Dr. say you need this??) I was unable to see the doctor today. I was running 15 minutes late and called the office on the way there as I wanted to know if I should reschedule or if they could take me. They told me it would not be an issue. Due to train delays I got to the office later than expected and the office called me to tell me the doctor left. When I asked them if they could take me later, they said it was not possible. I was unable to call them from the train but if they had communicated the doctor would be leaving a certain time I would've left the train and called immediately. As the receptionist kept me on the hold for 20 minutes to check if I could come back in later, she unexpectedly hung up on me. I called her back and no one answered. I acknowledge my mistake in being late but if the receptionist had communicated when the doctor would leave I would've rescheduled and not taken the risk. Overall, the whole situation was not handled correctly by the receptionist and ultimately she hung up on a patient. I will not be seeing the doctor again because of the receptionist's behavior and would recommend people not to go there. Many times I've been in the waiting room and seen more prestigious doctors accommodate walk ins and late arrivals. Healthcare should not be treated as a business and the staff should show much more compassion and learn basic phone skills. read more

I can only give Dr. Lana Boter one star due to her billing office. I had an appointment (my last at this office due to this issue) back in September 2016, almost nearly A YEAR ago and am STILL dealing with issues of not being reimbursed money I paid ahead of time, due to an insurance situation. My insurance card had an issue the day of my appointment and I was told by reception and Dr. Boter that if I paid $300 out of pocket that day just to call back with my insurance number once it gets figured out and I'd be reimbursed. I fixed the insurance issue 2 days later and called the billing office. After leaving nearly 6 messages without a call back, I called the office back and they gave me another number to try. I spoke to Marina at the billing office and gave her all of the insurance information in which she said that's all I had to do and I'd be reimbursed shortly. About a month later I called back and she had me give my number AGAIN and she said the same thing. I followed up weeks later and she kept reassuring me that we're just waiting on my insurance. Still, nothing. This time I told Marina to tell me when to call her back to follow up because this is getting ridiculous and untimely. She gave me a date a month later, I called, and still nothing. At this point I called my insurance who said they had JUST then filled this claim and it was well over the 120 days time limit they are given. At this point the billing office tells me, oh we're sorry you didn't give us your information soon enough and now you don't get reimbursed. WHAT???? I have a phone record of SEVENTEEN times I called this billing office but the supervisor Ann says that doesn't mean anything because she doesn't know what was being said. Is this a joke? Why else would I be calling a billing office???? Then within a week, I get a $900 bill from Dr. Boter's office saying I now owe the entire bill because insurance won't pay it because it wasn't filled early enough...from Dr. Boter's billing office. This is not right. This is not okay. This billing office is made up of the most unprofessional people I have ever met in my entire life, Ann included, whom claims to be a supervisor and hung up on me on one of our many conversations. She then spoke personally to Dr. Boter and said the doctor agreed to pay me back $100 (which I have yet to see) because I wasn't timely. This is incorrect, I WAS TIMELY, the office and my 17 prior calls proves this, but Ann of course did not tell Dr. Boter about this. I also came to learn that Marina no longer works in the office (interesting) and the day of the appointment I also paid a $50 copay which Ann 'accidently' told me that there should not have even been a copay that I owed. I also called the Dr's office to speak to Dr. Boter and left a message with her reception but heard nothing back. I also called the number on the bill I received and spoke to a Max Taylor on May 24th who was going to put my issued on some sort of red alert to be looked at by a supervisor and resolved in the next couple days, but I heard NOTHING back. So then when I received the same $900 bill a month later I called back and spoke to Dave on July 10th who said the same thing he's going to put it on a red alert, in which that is the first time I heard back (actually the office calling me, after I'd left them soooooo many messages and been promised soooooo many call backs) from Ann. So, almost a year later, I am STILL waiting to be reimbursed my $350 for such a terrible experience with this office. I'm nearing taking it to small claims or 7 on Your Side because I can't deal with this anymore. I've reached my limit. Being reimbursed what I told I was going to be reimbursed for doing everything by the book on my behalf and the billing office letting this fall through the cracks is no reason to punish me. So, the one star goes to Dr. Boter because she was personal and amazing, but she really needs a new billing department. read more

I have been going to her for over 3 years and believe it or not, she remembers me and my history and takes the time to talk me through any questions I have every single visit. Dr Boter is very knowledgeable and caring and I have never felt rushed or dismissed. I've never written a yelp review, much less for a Dr, but I was shocked when I saw she only has 3 stars on here. If you read through the reviews, any bad ratings are unfortunately for her admin staff which she has no hiring control over. Just a heads up - she is over 4.5 stars and nearly 2500 reviews on ZocDoc! While I've never personally had issues with the staff, I do see what some people may have experienced. After speaking with Dr Boter at my last visit, I actually found out she's building her own new office and it's set to open in October nearby. I will admit the current office could use updating, so once she's in a brand new sleek office and is able to hire her own staff, I truly don't think there will be a better doc in town! read more

I love Dr. Boter, I recommend her to all my friends. She's patient, friendly, smart, good sense of humor, answers all your questions...everything you want in an OB/GYN, (and oof! I have had some bad OB/GYN's). But...what I don't understand, after going to her for several years, WHY oh WHY is her front desk staff so unfriendly?? Every time I call, Jessica acts as if my 30 second phone call is putting her out. As if she's not WORKING in a doctor's office and her JOB isn't to answer phones and talk to patients. Very strange. And when you show up at the office, it's the same deal: they barely look you in the eye and only mumble 2 words at you. This, of course, makes me try harder to be friendlier, (maybe it's me??), but to no avail. I don't know what their problem is, but they always act as if you are interrupting their manicure or something. Sorry - I JUST got off the phone with Jessica, and this has been a long-running problem, but this shouldn't discourage you from seeing Dr. Boter. She is GREAT and the nurses and medical assistants are always really nice, too. I tried to give her a chance by sticking with her for 2 years. My main reason for going was to find a good birth control to keep me regular/ not over- bleed/and have less pains. After trying (3!!!) different pills over the 2 years, I now get 2 periods a month and have extreme emotional reactions...these are not unheard of effects of BC - however these have been symptoms of mine for only the past 2 years...and all she has done is take my $ and randomly prescribes me new pills every time. Once she asked what pills I tried years ago and said, "ok what about using that again?" I assume your job as a doctor is to assess the situation and prescribe as needed...not throw BC pill names into a hat and randomly pick one. I asked to be tested/checked out again for anything since my situation has clearly gotten worse instead of better but she refused to when it was earlier than the scheduled annual Pap test. Again, waste of appointment. Besides her extremely rushed talking and laughing off of my concerns...she then tried to charge me over $90 for I have no idea what. I ignored the bill a few times and then called. Office told me there were only 2 days a week to call about billing (???) so I hung up, did not call back, and still refuse to pay. I've been a patient of Dr. Boter for the past 3+ years. Last week, I was blindsided when - after receiving zero prior notification from their office - I was told that Dr. Boter would not call in a refill for my birth control prescription because I was due for my yearly appointment. I told the receptionist that I'd be happy to schedule an appointment with her immediately, but I still really needed them to call in one more month of pills for me in the interim because it was time for me to start my next pack. The receptionist flatly replied that I couldn't get a refill until I saw the doctor. I said that this was fine, as long as she could get me in today, because I'm completely out of pills. The receptionist replied that their next available appointment was in three weeks, did not offer any suggestions or alternative solutions, and basically just said "tough sh-t". About the receptionist at Dr. Boter's office. First of all, I had to call 3 times during normal business hours to even get someone to answer the phone. That's not good protocol for any business, but especially for a doctor's office. When I finally got an answer, the receptionist I spoke with was just a straight-up nasty b-tch. FTR, I'm fine with the brusque, business-only communication style that NYC is famous for. I don't take it personally. This woman is just straight-up rude, unprofessional and dismissive. It is inexcusable for a doctor's office to employ a receptionist with the interpersonal skills of a snotty 13-year-old girl. I asked her to please have Dr. Boter call me directly, but she never did. I don't know if Dr. Boter ever got the message or not, but when I am forced to communicate with her through her receptionist, I don't know that it really matters. The bottom line is this: To unexpectedly cut a woman off from being able to take her oral contraception on time is just cruel, and more than that, a yearly invasive physical exam for oral contraception is not even medically necessary (link to article below in case you're interested). It's just another gratuitous thing that doctors offices can bill you for. That being said, I know that I can't reform the entire American healthcare system with a one-person uprising, so didn't put up a fight whatsoever about scheduling an appointment when she said that I needed to (yes, I'm feisty as hell, but I still occasionally opt for the path of least resistance). The fact that their office couldn't get me in for an appointment for 3 more weeks was totally out of my control. I obviously can't just haphazardly skip a few weeks of taking birth control. Calling in one more month of pills for me in the interim should have been a no-brainer. It would have been SO easy for them to do & had zero potential negative repercussions for their practice - it's birth control, not Oxycontin for God's sake, and it's safe enough to be sold over the counter. But their refusal to fulfill this very simple request created a totally unnecessary, stressful, frustrating and high-risk situation for me. Being a woman and being single-handedly responsible for contraception is already enough of a burden without having to be under the "care" of an unreachable ob-gyn with a practice on a twisted power trip. Dr. Boter is wonderful, but I cannot recommend her because it in nearly impossible to schedule an appointment with her and her front-desk staff is incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful. If you call ten times, you will get someone to answer the phone once. If you do get a human, 50% of the time, you will be put on hold never to have the receptionist pick up again.
