Having come to the realization that food establishments closed relatively early out in Sydney, I…read moredecided to attempt my search for a dessert spot with later hours out in Chatswood, which was just a ride away on the train. Thus I turned up Tiny Sweetie. I'm partial to Chinese dessert soups, so I was looking forward to our visit to this rather tiny shop. We lucked out as a table emptied shortly after our arrival just a bit after 9pm. My DC had done his own research and found out that Tiny Sweetie was known for their homemade glutinous rice balls. These would be made to order and so would take 20 minutes, but we decided that the wait would be okay since we would be sharing. We started with the Black Rice, Red Bean, with Taro & Coconut Milk $5.50 and the Steamed Egg Custard $4.50, as they worked on the Peanut Glutinous Rice Balls (6) in Ginger Soup $5. The dessert soup was nice, though the black rice a bit scant. The steamed egg was warming but lacking in smoothness, perhaps due to a bit of overcooking. Their rice balls were tasty and worth the wait. 3.5 stars.

I've been dying to find an affordable HK dessert cafe. I found this place on a whim and, feeling a…read morelittle homesick, I ordered the black sesame soup to remind me of my mom who drank that stuff every other night. Definitely called my mom that night :) Prices are incredibly cheap and the quality is pretty good but slightly on the watered-down side. I've tried the red bean cooler (a mountain of ice with red beans and evaporated milk) and almond tea with lotus seeds, both which were good. Super small space that fits roughly 20 inside and 6 outside. You'll find a range of customers, from the lone guy who needs a quick dessert break, to small groups who wanna grab dessert after an outing.
