Good food and a wide range to choose from with the yum cha trolleys. Service is friendly, and the whole atmosphere bustling yet charming.

Yum......Cha

So close to five stars but as Paul said the dumpling on the Har Gow was a bit thick and gluggy. Talk about picky! I sometimes think the trolley ladies at Yum Cha places should be studied by quantum mathematicians, my view is they prove that time can bend. Today I was flooded with the most delicious looking dumplings and before I knew it I had four different dishes at my table and the tea hadn't even arrived. I could not bring the word 'no' to my lips. Each new dish just got better. Each had a different sauce and one of them I had never seen at any other Yum Cha place. It was a pan fried pork and prawn wonton wrapped in a rice paper skin with the prawn tail sticking out and it came with a sweet vinegar sauce, a fair bit of which is on my shirt as I type this between nodding off. Man was it good! This is a great place...if Yelp had 4 and a half this would get it.

Rather disappointing experience at Zilver today. I used to think the world of this place but they really undelivered on my expectations today. Service - I can empathise with the fact it was just coming up to the Sunday Lunch rush but we has to ask the hostess 3 times for fresh chilli & soy sauce before she got it right, would've helped if she stood there long enough to hear what we requested instead of running off so quickly. Chicken Feet - sorely disappointed today, looks as if they've adjusted the recipe as there was an almost fluorescent yellow stain on the plate indicating turmeric is now used? That's new. Nothing wrong with that if the chicken feet had by flavour. Pork Dim Sim - meat was an unusual pinkish colour, had a weird texture and tasted strange. Yum Cha that gets this wrong really needs to pull up their socks, it's like McDonalds not getting their Big Macs right! Everything else was fine, but overall based on today's experience purely I think Zilver has gone down hill!

I love me some Yum Cha, and Sydney has no shortage of places to go. Zilver can be a mixed bag depending on when you go, but more often than not it's a good experience. If you plan on going here on Sunday, show up early or wait a little while to get seated. In regards to food quality, Zilver is arguably the tastiest of Yum Cha restaurants Sydney has to offer. When it comes to service though...it's great on some days but lacking on their busy days. There are times the trolleys never come around your table so you have to flag someone down just to get some food, or there aren't enough people walking around refilling your cups of water/tea. However, when they aren't swamped (cause this place is goooood) the service is superb. It's very nice inside, and not corny looking like some other establishments. Every item you order is high quality, so don't be afraid to try anything...even if it looks a bit foreign. Look to spend around $20-30PP

This is one of my favourite places for Sunday morning Dim Sum / Yum Cha. The prices are very reasonable, and the food is really good. Just make sure that you come before 11:30 or be very patient.

Review Highlights - Zilver Restaurant

Ultimately, the yum cha at Zilver is in my top five outside of China, but perhaps the best in terms of service.

It is…read morejust across the street from the back door of the Sheraton Grand at Hyde Park...for very convenient for travelers. They do Dim Sum 9:00a - 3p most days. Came Sunday at 9:30, already a quarter full. I had har- gow, chicken feet, trip, lotus leaf sticky rice (lo mai gai). The chicken feet were perfect and the har-gow full and plumb with shrimp. I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. Plus, they were the "normal" palm size tart...not those mini ones, that many places switched to, to save money. Honestly, these were the best I have had anywhere! As I was leaving at 10:45, the place was buzzing and almost full. They were also bringing out many more items, such as stuffed bell pepper (with shrimp) and stuffed egg plant (with pork). They also had special carts that would make stir fry noodles or steamed vegy at your table. Makes it feel like Hong Kong, which was the last place I saw these, in the early '90s.

Our waitress was a super disappointed we came in right at opening: 9am and was muttering how inconvenient it was we decided to eat so early to her coworker in Cantonese not knowing we could understand her. We are used to big crowds and long lines by opening at our dim sum places so we came in early to beat the crowd. Kitchen took almost 45 mins to prepare our beef noodles and it was a total disappointment. Kitchen is super slow and did not have anything other than a few items by opening. We wanted egg custard to finish our meal and was informed it would take another hour before they would be ready. I guess things are cooked fresh on the day which is good but shouldn't it all be ready by the time you open? The little old ladies pushing the cart were very nice and polite. Ambiance is your typical big city Chinese place.

Ambience seemed old skool China with eclectic decor. We were promptly greeted and seated by our hostess and our server followed suit shortly thereafter. Menu selection is extensive and we started our meal with a bottle of wine as well as an appetizer of two (deep fried) spring rolls. We also ordered two bowls of their famous chicken corn soup and in all reality, one bowl was sufficient enough to share between two people. It was hot and delicious. Main entrees included a black pepper steak which came out sizzling on a platter and reminded me of beef fajitas & pork with vegetables and chow mein noodles. I am not a big pork eater so I ate the vegetables and both entrees were very flavorful and fresh. Top of the meal wasn't dessert; it was chuckling over the robot that was carrying the dishes to the tables with a cute cat face blinking with a meow lol.

You walk up the stairs into the restaurant and the ambiance is great-- clean, organized, welcoming. We are all uni students dining on a budget and the dishes are a bit pricier, but the portions are pretty big, so good if sharing or eating family style. There's a wide variety of food options, so there's something for everyone. Presentation of all the food was great and gave the feeling of authentic dishes. Service was fine, a little slow. It was a busy night, so we had to wave them down, but they also have one of those robots that brings the dishes to your table.

They have some cocktails, plenty of beer, wine and hard liquor to choose from and of course HK style drinks!!! HK milk tea, coffee milk tea , coke/ribena with lemon etc. The food came out hot and tasted great! What we ordered: - Hong Kong style salty fish and chicken fried rice - Old town pan-fried chicken and vegetable dumplings - BBQ 2 choice combo (roasted pork and char-grilled pork sausage) with steamed rice with chicken flavor - braised eggplant with pork mince (delish!!!) - duck tongue - HK coffee milk tea I found their online menu here (they don't seem to have a website): https://quandoo-assets-partner.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/partner/uploads/de32132f-d416-46f7-af73-72c85b958ec2/MD-document-dd37a228-999a-4f7a-85fb-f2ea5fa53e6a.pdf

How convenient. She was working a half day to spend the rest with us. It was 2pm and I was starving. She was smart in choosing this time because we noticed it was very busy during the lunch rush. It still was when we got there but a table came up quickly for 3. The restaurant is pretty stylish and modern. The open air seating is very inviting in the middle of the Financial Disctrict. Even with the slight chill air it was nice to be under the sun. Service is not that great here but I could see they were trying. Our server was pleasant making conversation with us. When she found out we were visiting it seemed like she tried to make the whole experience a little better for us by being more attentive. I did peruse the 50 page menu to see what all they had. I wanted it all. The food smelled great. The menu was so intoxicating I told my cousin to order for us. I trusted her decisions. Helps that we like the same kinds of food. 3 dishes would be enough food but my cousin ordered 5 dishes. That's a lot of food. Crispy Pork and Roast Duck combo, Fried Rice, Fried Tofu, squid and Chinese Broccoli Being a Cantonese restaurant my cousin remembered that I would order Chinese Broccoli often here in California. She decided to do the same. Nicely cooked still retaining its' color with a semi natural sweet taste and a little snap. The fried rice is fried rice. Nothing to brag about but good. The tofu was deep fried with a spicy salt. Add nori to it I don't think was necessary but it was good combination. Just didn't like adding more salt to it. The squid too was deep fried with spicy salt. Delicious. Now the pièce de résistance was definitely the pork and duck combo. We're talking lechon quality pork. Very surprising to find that here in a Chinese restaurant because that's a Filipino dish. Combine that with roast duck that was cooked well. This is not the time to talk about how unhealthy this is. Let's just enjoy it for what it is. Two good meats basking in the afternoon glistening proudly and dripping juices of sweetness. Good food with good people. Besides, I was on vacation. Another good eats in Darling Harbour. I'm beginning to think I need to move here.
