I have developed a disdain for takeout Chinese food but the people at work were ordering lunch and I joined in. What I received was surprising. I ordered online and there was an option to indicate spiciness (I asked for HOT), special requests (I asked for no onions), etc. My General Tsos chicken was served in a black plastic container that actually didn't hurt it. It was jam packed with crunchy deep-fried chicken. Some people don't like their fried foods that hard (like my father in law), but I will take that any day over soft, mushy fried foods. The sauce was nice though not at all spicy. The broccoli was several large florets that were undercooked a bit and still crunchy, which is my preference again over mushy vegetables. The fried rice was plentiful and chock-full of vegetables that still had some bite to them. It was uniformly yellow and I doubt it spent a minute in a wok (unlike our fried rice at home, which comes out partially charred) but it still tasted good. Even the fortune cookie was crisp, with wonderful caramel-toasted sugar notes and a laminated fortune inside. High quality. Except for the lack of spice, it was a great version of takeout Chinese food. If I ever get to eat in and really stress that I want it HOT, they may get that fifth star. read more

For delivery this place is great, they'll travel outside of their immediate area. It's a cross between American style and traditional Chinese and it's done well. There's no communication gap over the phone and food arrives quickly. The combinations have appropriate portions and the veggie fried rice has actual vegetables in it. The only drawback is the prices. The menu and price your charged is different. While I didn't think the price I was charged was inappropriate I want it to reflect the menu price as well as the price I have previously been charged.Also they up charge for everything, if you don't want pork in your rice your paying $1 more and delivery charge, which isn't inappropriate but it's never the same. So while I highly recommend them expect to pay about $2 more each item you order, a dollar for anything custom and a delivery fee that will differ with each order read more

Decent Chinese that hits the spot on a Sunday night when most other restaurants are closed in downtown Albany. Lam's was a just around the corner from our hotel. We walked in, ordered and waited only a few minutes for our food. The dumplings were good, as was the chicken and broccoli. After grabbing a couple of drinks from the cooler, we were all set. While Lam's is certainly nothing groundbreaking, it's perfect if you're downtown and craving some classic Americanized Chinese. read more

Ok - Yin and Yang: The spring rolls were excellent. That 's the Yin. Here comes the Yang: the "chicken" in the rice dish and the soup was 100% rubber. You bite into and your teeth almost bounce back. Summary- Not great but not terrible americanized Chinese at super dirt cheap prices. In my quest to try all the places near my work Lam's was on the list, so despite my fears of getting General Tso's Alley Cat, off I went. Food- 2 Stars Not the worst Chinese I have ever had. It was scorching hot. The general Tso's chicken was OK but lacked any real flavor. There were some pieces that were just fried balls of dough as well. The "fried" rice it came with was not good. It was cold and rainy, so I got some wonton soup. It was meh, super salty broth with very doughy wontons that definitely were ordered out of a catalog. Service- 4 Stars Friendly and super fast, like under 5 minutes from call in to ready. Value- 3 Stars Super cheap but not all that good. The lo mein were salty, overcooked, and scant on ingredients. The cook apparently doused the mixture in soy sauce off the heat, which added a pool of liquid to the bottom of the take-out container, and deprived me of any opportunity to dial in the correct level of seasoning. The dish labeled "Szechuan Bean Curd" was not Szechuan, but deep fried tofu cubes in generic sweet and sour sauce, complete with the red food coloring and onions and green peppers you'd find under a SnezGard(TM) somewhere outside of Texarkana. The service is usually pretty good and quick, and the price is what you would expect to pay for Chinese take out... that doesn't make up for the poor food quality though. Stopped in here during our trip to Albany. It was almost closing time and the kids wanted Chinese food. I should have gotten McDonald's (and we don't even eat McDonald's). The food was oily and tasteless. The staff was rude and disinterested. And they gave me pork dumplings instead of vegetable. Where do I start? This restaurant is quite lackluster in both service and food. It seems to me that the staff are particularly disinterested with taking orders for food. Mentioning the word coupon or deal yields an abrupt 'no' from the staff. In my case, I had to clarify that it was a Yelp deal before I was able to continue my order. On the bright side, the food was cheap and ready to go pretty quickly. I had a Singapore Mein Fun, Egg Drop Soup, and Beef Chow Mein. We ordered from Lam's for the first time for pick up. I picked up the order and got home & discovered items missing. I called Lam's and the man who answered said "Yeah, you got the wrong order." I told him they asked for my last name and phone number when I picked it up, but he just laughed and said I got the wrong one. It was a rainy night and I then had to drive back there to return the food I got and pick up the correct order. I thought, because of their error, they would have at least offered to deliver it. I then expected, like most businesses will do, they would give me a coupon for the next time or refund something because of their error and my having to drive back there, but instead they had the nerve to tell me I owed them $6.43 more because they had also charged me wrong the first time! I was shocked. I hope that $6.00 was worth them losing a customer, because I'll never go back. On top of everything else, the food was not even good.
