Reasonably priced Thai restaurant. Good options but food portion is small. Fast service. Glad to have a Thai restaurant in the area.

Mango Curry
Sneha P.

We got Basil Fried rice, Mango curry, and Pad Prik Khing. Our favorite was the Pad Prik Khing as it had a lot of flavor and chicken was nice and tender. Mango curry was interesting mix of sweet and spicy. The basil fried rice, however, felt like it did not have as much flavor. Overall, we enjoyed our Mother's Day lunch here. The staff was very kind and even gave us a little Mother's Day goodie bag with a mug.

We ventured out to try a few more dishes. The pad gapo, eggplant, and larb salad were all just ok, probably wouldn't order those again. The masaman curry was really good. The tofu in drunken noodle was also very good-- soft.

Cashew & Broccoli Chicken - HOT

This was my first time to Lampoon. I searched for Thai Food in my area on Yelp. What a great find. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorqted. They have a wide variety of Lunch Specials. I ordered Cashew & Broccoli Chicken. It was excellent! My meal started with a salad and included two Crab Rangoon as part of the Lunch Special. I can't wait to return!

Khao Soi

Khao Soi (7/10): very good noodles and broth. The crispy noodles were decent as well. The pork was not very good, though. It tasted like it was missing some acidity or alcohol to neutralize the "porkiness." I'd stick with their chicken or tofu. I'd give it 8/10 if the meat were better. Tom Kha (5/10): decent, but not sour enough and a little too sweet. Restaurant was pretty empty on a Wednesday night. Service was pretty good.

OK, I'll let you in my secret. I love Thai food. if I think about the food cuisines, I would say for me - on the top will be Indian food, followed by Mediterranean, Italian and Thai food. So amongst the world cuisines have tried all my life Thai food is soul food being in top three. And I have been to Thailand so when I look at khao soi, and if it is made good, I can say I am in for a treat . Overall, a very positive Looking Place in a busy plaza. I discovered this place two weeks ago, and I've already been here twice. Basically dedicated both my weekend food to have it here.. absolutely coming back.

Pad Thai with chicken

First time visiting this Thai restaurant and it was a good experience overall! Food: 3.5/5. Limited vegetarian/vegan options, however ample amount of meat dishes. Food was tasty. Curry paste contains fish sauce (except panang and masaman). Service: we were the only ones dinning on Wednesday around 4:30pm but they were getting busy with takeout orders. I hope they can expand their vegan/vegetarian options, especially green/red/yellow curries as they are a popular choice.

They have enough straws at the table! Woo!!

A new Thai restaurant opened and I love it. The food was very good. On the plus side: - the food was great - potions were descent - people were nice - the had gluten free food (I think) On the could be improved side : - they didn't really know that much about gluten free and the menu was not marked. (Gluten can hide in spices and all kind of places you don't expect. It is not a synonym for flour ) - the ambience is nice but felt a little more like a lunch place than a dinner place. I was reasonably sure the green curry was gluten free so that is what I got. Loved it.

Accompaniments. Sauces and pickles.

This spot had been a solid Chinese takeout style place, but it had been less convenient for me for the last few years. I'm liking that this new Thai spot has a nicer dine-in vibe, it's much more clean and comfortable than it's predecessor! I took my time with the menu and I have to say its a little all over the place. Not the most Thai focused menu I've seen, I'll say that. We started with the appetizer sampler so there's a few things to cover starting there. The Chicken Satay, which is usually just ok for me, was really quite good. It seemed to have some curry and other seasoning inside that made it different than your standard chicken on a stick. The Crab Rangoon, while fried very nicely, had no meat in it. They use imitation crab in these anyway despite the fact that other items on the menu use authentic crab. Not a fan of the fake stuff personally, but if you say it's in there then at least put it in there. The Egg Rolls were very tasty. The Spring Rolls were surprisingly good. I don't usually care much for those but I'd get these again. We also had the sesame noodles with chicken (medium heat) and the sweet and sour shrimp (mild). So my biggest issue here was my noodles came with egg. I do not like egg... I can't stand it at all actually. And yes, it's prevalent in lots of Asian dishes of this style. So normally I just avoid dishes that might contain it. Yet every fried rice dish mentioned the egg in the description, lots of other dishes including a different noodle dish mentioned the egg, so it's natural I'd assume I was in the clear when the menu makes no mention of egg... sigh. End rant. After picking all the egg out of my food I found the noodles a bit over done and mushy. The chicken was on the dry side but not bad. It DID have good flavor from the sesame oil and the veggies were a nice variety. The medium heat was just enough to notice but I'd definitely go for hot next time. Sweet and sour shrimp was a bit too sweet. The pineapple was really nice but it needed more balance. The staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. It's also beautifully plated. That said my meal was really hit or miss. I'd split this place evenly at 2.5 stars because of the things I mention and the fact that I'd expect a little better for the price point. I DO want to come back soon and give them another shot, they're still getting their footing. They also have Laab on the menu which is a proper authentic dish I haven't had in years, If it delivers on the flavors I remember I'll update my rating.

My wife and I were excited for awhile when we found out that a new Thai place was opening up close to the Jewel that we often get groceries from. Prior to their opening, my favorite local Thai place was Thai Noodle Cafe in Libertyville but was really hoping that Lamoon could match the quality of their food so that I wouldn't have to travel as far to get good Thai food. Since opening, I have been there 3 times and have tried something different each time to get a fuller representation of the quality of the different dishes that they offer. I will caveat that I have gotten take-out each time and can only speak to that. From looking at pictures of their dishes for dine-in, it's quite possible that portion sizes are a bit larger when you go there in-person (but that's pure conjecture and not something I've verified). Here is a list of the dishes/drinks that I've tried: Orange Chicken Basil Fried Rice w/Pork Pad See Eiew w/Beef (lunch special w/crab rangoons) Mango Salmon with Red Curry Roasted Duck Pineapple Curry Thai Iced Tea Thai Iced Coffee I loved the pineapple and mango chunks in the corresponding dishes above. The mango felt especially different than what I'm used to in curry, especially with the deep fried salmon. It's on the pricier end of their menu items but was interesting enough that I didn't mind getting it at least once. Roasted duck was also not dry, so I was happy about that. The drinks were pretty standard so nothing particular to comment about there. I was a bit disappointed in the portion sizes of the take-out dishes relative to the price. Since I have a comparison point with the place in Libertyville, the prices here are a bit more expensive for less food. On top of that, the beef was a tad dry (whereas in comparison, the beef at Thai Noodle has consistently always been tender and delicious). The lunch special with the crab rangoons was also a bit of a let-down in that the crab rangoons are pretty small. Each can be consumed in essentially one bite. I'm also not sure if there is a portion size difference between the lunch special vs getting it as a regular entree (I believe they are virtually the same price). If there's no portion-size difference, then I guess it's a better deal because you get two small freebies. But if there is a portion-size difference, then it doesn't feel worth it. Regarding spiciness levels - I love spicy foods so I always opt for the hottest available, which for Lamoon is "Thai Hot". For me, it ranged from a very mild kick to a moderate kick, depending on the dish (not sure if it's b/c the ingredients of different dishes would mask the spiciness more or if it was inconsistent application), but nothing that made me sweat like some places do. If you enjoy spicy at all and have some level of tolerance, I think "Thai Hot" would be fine for you. At the end of the day, I would say that the food averages out to be on the decent end, with some above average selections and some sub-par ones. It's nearby and convenient for me so I would likely get it again but not a place I would say to travel out of your way for. My wife tells me that her in-person experience was excellent and so I may come back and update this if that makes enough of a difference for me to change my review.

We were so excited to try this new Thai restaurant and it was fantastic! The inside was very beautiful, sleek and clean. That staff was extremely nice and made us feel welcomed the second we walked in. Our experience only got better once the food came out. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. We can not wait to come back again and try more on the menu. We orders the chicken satay, pad Thai, spicy basil and yellow curry. The fried rice was some of the best I've ever eaten.

There's not a whole lot of seating because of the space, but it's generally not too busy either. The parking is a bit hard to find, it's in the back and can easily be missed. I'm glad to see that they are still doing well! I tried the woo sen tom yum today. It seemed simpler than I expected. Just glass noodles in tom yum, and some mung bean sprouts and tofu. But after eating for a bit, the simplicity is nice. Every bite has some glass noodles and crunchy sprouted. With occasional cilantro flavor. The tofu and tom yum worked well. I was disappointed at first but was content by the end of it.

The shrimp basil spring roll has not a single taste of basil, but was simply a glorified lettuce wrap. I requested #2 hotter (which should be a middle of the road warmth) but there was not a lick of spice in this dish. Even the peanut sauce for dipping of the spring roll was watered down and not thick. The worst meal I've had in some time and I can't understand the ratings for this place. Absolutely disgusting.

It is a noisy place full of older customers that know everyone in the place. Lots of customers hugging the staff, talking with the owners, and other tables. A great atmosphere if you are a local. One of the owners even suggested carrot cake for our desert. Really good by the way. We did see a number of regulars tables that were receiving complimentary appetizers. I get it, but you should treat first time customers the same to make them repeat customers? The issue was with service and how we were treated after we had to get service. Our server disappeared once our main course was ordered. Yes the place was packed, but the server made sure she kept on touching base with the regulars tables and we received less attention. Well like no attention. Well like we had to go to the bar to one of the owners to get our check. Well and when my significant other tried to comment that we had a lack in service the owner walked away from us. She turned a really nice first time experience into a never going back and write a bad review experience. (And my significant other was mad the whole evening, which made the event worse for me.) So even though I wanted to at least give them a 2 star review I had to tie it back to the tip we gave of $1. Regretfully we will not be going back to The Green Room.

I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, the staple menu item I order each time I visit. My guest ordered the Mongolian beef. My pad Thai came out visibly different than times past. It looks almost watered down and the tofu was not coated and seared with the beautiful crust it normally has. I ate it and it tasted... sour. Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations. This was this past weekend on Friday night.
