On a rather cold and rainy May evening in Stratford, we were brought back to life, it seems, by just stumbling upon this great little dining establishment on Sheep Street. We were seated downstairs by the front window (which was perfect, as the stairs might have been too much for my 78 yr old husband). I have to say, we enjoyed the most FANTASTIC meal here... probably the best meal we had our entire week in England (even outdid some great meals we shared in both London and Oxfordshire). My son had an exquisite dish of calf liver (he is still talking/raving about it) while my husband enjoyed a delicious lamb shank dish-- and I, a fabulous dish of local fresh cod. The wine list had a great selection and the meal presentation was BEAUTIFUL. I mean, it was all just absolutely OUTSTANDING! My dessert (a toffee pudding, of course) is still on my mind. A very moist toffee cake with a delightfully hot, sticky, yet creamy caramel sauce atop, served with a side of fresh local cream (amazing!!)
All in all, a very comfortable and enjoyable spot on Sheep Street-- only a few blocks from Skakespears home. Our server, too, I must mention, was very pleasant and attentive. A beautiful young lady offering a lovely smile the whole while.
We'll be back, no doubt-- but probably not for another year, as we don't get to the UK nearly as often as we'd like. read more
