He gets really involved with the people who eat there. Whenever I have been there, he has made me get up and dance with him on a table at the front. After the dancing he gets everybody outside and lets us all smash a plate. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is the best I have ever experienced in a restaurant. I highly, highly reccommend this place to people of any age for birthday meals, anniversary meals, a fun night out with friends, anything! You will have fun, guaranteed!

A young couple came in to order drinks at a quiet time for the pub in the afternoon. The card machine seemed to not be working and this couple after trying repeatedly to pay for their drinks were told to return their drinks to the bar from outside, as they like most people of their generation were not carrying any cash. I felt acutely embarrassed for them as they were obviously made to feel extremely uncomfortable by the lack of empathy shown both by the serving barmaid and by the manager who was called. The drinks were then disposed of and the couple left, I'm sure never to return. I certainly will not return myself either as this episode of lack of understanding, compassion and downright rudeness on the part of the Orange Tree left such a bitter taste in my mouth.

A thunderous downpour preceded my dinner reservations here and I arrived to find the intimate restaurant fully booked for indoor dining. Because the rain had stopped, a covered outdoor table with adjacent heat lamp would be mine, once the water was sopped up, but no-one could guarantee the rains wouldn't start up again. Had they, I'm not sure what I'd have done. It proved to be a rather romantic meal, being the only outside diners. A bottle of wine and the chef stopping by the table a couple of times added to the damp ambiance. Michael's will cost you more than pub fare because it's not a pub and they're doing something rather upscale here. The chef is most proud of his dishes involving seafood and when I ordered an entree that was fully vegetarian his reaction almost caused me to rethink. Both the seafood entree and the vegetarian terrine were very good and something a bit different for this area. Indoors or out, Michael's is good if you're looking for something upscale, intimate, and unique. If there's a chance of rain though, try for indoor reservations.
