You see,our friend (who lives in the area) is always posting pics on facebook late at night showing the delights that this place has to offer. So over time you convince yourself that not only do you need a Shirley K in your life, you actively crave one! So imagine our delight upon disvovering that it was just accross the road from our hotel for the evening...result! So festivities and alcohol out of the way we made our way staggeringly for a kebab, and we weren't dissapointed. Ange had a donner on naan with mild sauce, and I went for a chicken on naan with chili sauce. Both were really lovely, although I had eyes bigger than my belly and couldn't eat it all. Nevermind though because it made the journey home with us,and you'll be no doubt thrilled to know that it reheated really nicely! We weren't in Shirley very long,so I don't know what it has to offer (Apart from members of Morgue Orgy living there),but it has a good Kebab house, and at the end of the day that's what life is all about really : )

And Shahi Nan Kebab is the place to go. Not only do they give free poppadoms upon arrival, with a good helping of their unique chilli sauce... Ah, their chilli sauce. I could write lines and lines about the crunchiness of the fresh onions and the tangy yet spicy flavour of it, honestly, a work of genius. What was I talking about again? Oh yes, food, my favourite subject. Moving swiftly on, we went for a portion of seekh kebabs, fries , mutton tikka and their infamous, atleast in my eyes, haleem. Their kebabs and mutton tikka are both delightful and great for all those fellow meat eaters out there. But the haleem is to die for. Served with fresh chillis, ginger root and fried onions garnished on the top, it's the right balance of spice and bursts with flavour. If you're going to pay a visit to Shahi Nan, then I absolutely recommend this dish. Overall, a great place and it never fails to disappoint.

If you are now thinking it's a takeaway, ok, I can promise you it's way better than that. Al Basha's menu includes a variety of mediterranean dishes from moussaka and kebabs to beef and lamb. Kebabs are made of the quality of meat you would use at home (no nasty stringy or fatty stuff here), and come with griddled peppers and onions, a proper salad, pickled mild chili peppers and pickled turnips. You can add garlic mayo or chili sauce. Larger kebabs come on fine flatbreads rather than pittas. You can add a starter of houmous or the like if you think you can find room. Meat dishes come with jewelled rice or chips and salad. Moussaka is substantial and delicate tasting. Al Basha is run by a lovely and friendly family. I have eaten less well in expensive restaurants, and would highly recommend that you stop off here.

Service 1/10, quality 2/10, price 7/10, cleanliness 2/10. This place I was told used to be wonderful: family owned, great food, a brilliant vibe. However, it was sold off mid last year and it has gone totally downhill. Food was not fresh, place was dirty, the customers were well, that's a story not for here. Waitress could not speak a word of English, the staff there are rude. Dirt everywhere.

Parking space is available on the street, as it is on the main coventry road, near the small heath park. Reception welcome is good by the owner himself, Who also comes to the table for taking orders, and recommending speciality of the restaurant. Farsi speaking families can speak in Farsi (Persian language) or Pakhtoon language and also can speak in Urdu and english ofcourse. The waiter staff can be improved a bit, they seem less interactive with the customers. Order takes a bit time as the food is freshly prepared on order. The place has raised stage like area for traditional floor seatings or table seats for people who feel uncomfortable sitting on the floor. One thing I would say is, expect a lot of food smell to seep into your clothes, and you will stink of the food for few days, as it gets very smokey inside the restaurant. Apart from the above, no other food in Birmingham can touch the authentic food they serve at this place. Pure food as it meant to be from the heart of Afghanistan and North Pakistan, Beautiful taste. We ordered, Lamb Karahi, Chicken Karachi, Mixed grill kebabs and tikka and the big iconic Naan breads from Afghanistan, When I say Karahi, I mean Karahi as these are original karahi's not like they serve in Kashmiri restaurant where they don't even know what Karahi means. You get meat prepared by the kilos at this place. Yummy My recommendation if %100 for everyone to try the authentic afghani food as it meant to be. You will surely end up licking your fingers to get the last bit of taste out of the food. After the food, you should always try their traditional Tea, made with Cardamon seeds and lemon, very good to digest the food. I will surely be visiting this place again and again and would recommend to all. Enjoy the traditional of Pakhtoon cuisine.

After looking for an Afghan restaurant. We found this charming restaurant. About the food.. It serves good, tasty quality food! So if you're looking for traditional Afghan food, this is the place to be! We had some kebab, rice, chaapli kebab, fries and drinks. I definitely recommend the Special Charsi Lamb Tikka! The chaapli kebab was abit too spicy for me, but the flavours were good. The waiters were definitely kind and very helpful at all times! A minor is the menu. Before we planned on going to the restaurant, we searched some information about the restaurant. Because we only wanted to eat traditional Afghan food, but the menu that I came across on their website wasn't the same menu than the one they gave us! The differences were the prices and some dishes. Despite of those differences, really loved the restaurant and the food!

The first thing I will say for it is their prices are quite frankly ludicrous. It's a good thing that they're named after a prince, as they can't be making very much per meal at these prices. A regular pizza sets you back just £2.49, whereas any burger is a paltry £1.80, and kebabs start at just £2. As the name suggests, their piece de resistance is their pizza, and even at their rock bottom prices, it doesn't disappoint, with a great range of toppings to customise with (I'd personally recommend the tandoori chicken with the pepperoni - unconventional but delicious). The rest of the food is also good, and some of the best of its kind available in the immediate vicinity, but I'd go for the pizza every time.
