I witnessed yesterday what I consider to be the worst piece of customer service and embarrassing management that I can ever recall. A young couple came in to order drinks at a quiet time for the pub in the afternoon. The card machine seemed to not be working and this couple after trying repeatedly to pay for their drinks were told to return their drinks to the bar from outside, as they like most people of their generation were not carrying any cash. I felt acutely embarrassed for them as they were obviously made to feel extremely uncomfortable by the lack of empathy shown both by the serving barmaid and by the manager who was called. The drinks were then disposed of and the couple left, I'm sure never to return. I certainly will not return myself either as this episode of lack of understanding, compassion and downright rudeness on the part of the Orange Tree left such a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

Went to this restaurant while visiting the UK and it was an awful experience the manager Stacy needs to be in the basement somewhere filing. Her customer service skills were very poor with how she treated us as patrons. She confused out orders and even lied about the drink service. She told me it was regular coke when she obviously served us Diet Coke. My cousin ordered 2 meals and one was to go. She did not put in that order and when we were getting ready to leave proceed to tell us that "It's not like when you are in America and you get to order things to go and rice cannot be taken off the premises" I have never heard of this before in any of the countries I have visited yet alone in the UK. She was rude and unprofessional and the food was equally unimpressive. I would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

Being a real foodie and having this place literally on my door step, I thought it was about time I visited this pub and restaurant. My partner and I went along on a Wednesday evening and let me tell you this place was buzzing! Good job we booked a table! It was packed. Groups and duos were relaxing in the bar area and savouring their food in the restaurant. This place is immediately cosy and comforting as soon as you step over the threshold. The decor is modern and the subtle tones and animal fur seating makes it inviting. The bar and restaurant are split over two levels so the waiters and waitresses have to navigate their way up and down the stairs with plates in hands. I don't envy them! We arrived early for our table booking on purpose so that we could enjoy the ambience and have a pre dinner drink. I felt at home already with a glass of presecco in hand. We were told that we could go through to our table when we were ready but as we were so hungry we went through on time. We were seated in the corner which was perfect. After deliberating what to eat we settled on a sharer of nachos. The nachos were presented well and were set out on a wooden board with pulled pork chilli, homemade nachos no less! Guacamole and sweetcorn sour cream. This dish was truly delicious and the pulled pork was spicy and tasty. I'm actually drooling now! Next up was salmon fish cakes, lemon hollandaise, and fries. The salmon cakes were packed full of flavour and were very filling. Unfortunately there was a mix up with the orders and my partners pizza hadn't even been made, so my main went back to the kitchen to keep it hot. The waitress was apologetic and immediately said the pizza would not appear on our bill. All in all an enjoyable evening with tasty food and classy surroundings. Would I return? Yes I would! The orange tree is a picturesque country pub on the outskirts of Solihull. In my opinion it's one of the cosiest places to dine in the midlands. It has a open fire and both a formal and more casual area to dine. The formal section does typically require a reservation, although in my opinion the casual area is much nicer! The staff are fantastic and will guide and make recommendations on all the courses you have. On this occasion we was very hungry after a day at Cannock chase and the waiter kindly brought us complimentary bread and butter before our courses arrived. The quality of the food here is great! Waiting time is about 15-20 minutes. For starters I ordered mushroom with white wine, garlic and blue cheese on toast. I actually found this particular dish better than the main I had, it had a lot of flavour. For the main I had a vegetarian hot pot dish with sides of Pitta bread. For dessert I had spiced apple pavlova and cinnamon ice cream. I was expecting something that would be too sweet. Instead I was pleasantly surprised at how well the spiced apple, meringue and cinnamon ice cream complemented each other. If your after a good dining experience that won't break the bank id recommend checking this place out! Lots to choose from on the menu and a fantastic location! read more

Visited last night for valentines dinner. Have been several times before and must say that whilst the food and service were first class, was a little taken aback by the increased prices since our last visit. I appreciate the implications of covid, however the final inclusive bill of around £90 for 2 of us was I think somewhat steep. Other than that , we did have a nice time enjoying the ambience. read more

The orange tree has to be one of my favourite places to eat in solihull, the pub itself is an incredibly charming place full of character however modernised to make it feel light and airy. It has a huge outdoor seating area making it perfect for a summers evening. The bar itself is fully stocked and offers a range if beers on tap along with a decent selection of bottles, pints aren't particularly expensive at £5 ish and service is great. The wine menu is one of the best I've seen for a gastropub and the staff are helpful and quick to assist if you look undecided. The food here is the reason I come back time and time again, service is quick with wait times of 15-20 minutes at most on the first course arriving. The quality is fantastic with decent sized portions and everything being made fresh that day. And finally the quality is fantastic with burgers having lots of flavour and salads being unique to the venue. They source their steaks locally and they can tell you the source of their chicken and fish which adds to the farm house character. I've been here several times and will continue to bring family, friends and colleagues here in the future. Well worth a visit. read more

The menu is extensive, with a range of salads, pizzas, sharing plates, pastas, fish and meat dishes. I've never had a bad meal and the Sunday specials are simply gorgeous. read more

The Orange Tree is one of a small chain of gastropubs each of which has a different atmosphere and menu. The Orange Tree is on the main road in Chadwick End, and has a large car park to the rear. There are steps to the rear of the building but a slope leading to flat access at the front if needed. The bar is on the main level, with the restaurant set to the right. The bar drops down to a lower level with half a dozen tables, then rises again to a more formal dining area. This means that you never feel surrounded in this very busy cafe bar. The food is at the expensive end of reasonable, with a number of sharing plates and pizzas at the cheaper end, and some fine fish commanding a larger price tag. The rustic bread and antipasti are great on a summer's day, sitting outside in the back courtyard. There is a great salad with beetroot, pumpkin and feta, and a gorgeous lemon and tarragon spit-roast chicken. Be prepared to arrive early at the weekend if you want a table, or else be prepared to wait. read more

Sometimes I feel obliged to try the worst sounding item on a menu. It's an instinctive impulse to satisfy my curiosity that happened recently at The Orange Tree, a smart pub in the affluent village of Chadwick End. A tandori chicken burger with advocado, raita, and mango chutney, rounded off with a bucket of fries. What? Why?! My first thought was that perhaps this was the closest the villagers would get to a kebab shop offering and that the evenings bell for last round would see a rush of boat shoes to the bar, all drooling at the thought of satisfying their grease quota for the night. My second thought was wow, this sounds atrocious, I must try it. Try it I did and low and behold, it was tasty stuff. Quite why it worked, I'm not so sure, though there was an element of gourmet kebab shop to it. The chicken moist and with good flavour of both bird and spice, the bun soft and the riata a natural accompaniment to the heat from the whole chilli that lurked unannounced underneath the breast. The mango chutney was mercifully served on the side, as its cloying sweetness really had no place on the plate. That aside, this was a quirky, fun, main course. And so to the rest of The Orange Tree, which is part of a small chain in equally well-to-do areas. Its light and cosy, with the names of game species hanging from the white washed walls, as if to reinforce the rural spot it sits in. There is a fine wine list, a good selection of ales and some truly horrific lagers on tap. The staff are unobtrusive, if a little stretched at times. I plumped for a starter of pulled pork chilli with nachos, sweet corn sour cream and guacamole. The meat was tender and spicy, yet swamped by the flavour of the chilli to the point that it was unrecognisable as pork. Not that I am bemoaning this, it was flavoursome, the nachos were grease free and the portion was huge. Many a man could get lost in this over an afternoon and several pints. Another starter was wisely shared between three as the portion was again massive. It was a mezze, Moroccan in style and with too many elements to list before I fall to sleep at the keyboard. It was all declared delicious, in particular the salsa dotted with pomegranate seeds and watermelon. A salad with beetroot, feta, and carrot was all earth and salt. The accompanying flat breads left the plate useless to the dish washer. I knew the pasta dish would defeat it us before it reached the table. It was a generous portion that could have been visible from space. Within the mound of bucatini was fennel sausage, pine nuts, and goats cheese, with a good amount of red pepper pesto to provide moisture. It was as satisfying and comforting as a hug from your mother. It was also way too much food, as was the roast beef with traditional trimmings. The meat perfectly pink and from a good beast, hiding some very good roasties. There was a thick gravy and carrots thankfully boiled past al dente. There were also some green veg served separately. There had to be. Because there is no way that huge pile of food would be enough to fill one person alone. Somehow room was found for desserts. A brown sugar meringue that was chewy in all the right spots was paired with rose water cream and pistachios. It was impressive in the way that we wanted to try and recreate it at home, though knew that we could never quite manage. It was this course that also saw the only duff dish of the day. A coupe, or sundae, call it what you will, should be a sum of its parts: Good quality ice cream, some crunch, a good quality sauce or syrup, all so that every spoonful feels different. Here it was coffee ice cream with a dusting of amoretti crumbs, bashed beyond the point of any textural recognition. Once I was rolled out of the dining area and into the car, I stopped for recollection during the journey home. I really enjoyed The Orange Tree. The food is well sourced and equally well cooked. It's at a fair price point for seriously big plates of food. The portions here may get the back up of those who hate waste, but those should go to enjoy a main course and leave feeling wonderfully replete. It's a great place in a great location. I have been going to the Orange tree for 10 years now and can safely say it's one of the best if not the best in the area, that includes the whole of Solihull. The poor reviews on here amaze me. Were these people at a different restaurant ? The orange tree has it all, a wonderful relaxed atmosphere and fantastic quality food. You can just tell this place buys in quality ingredients and the standard if food is just way higher than most places in the area. If only I can get my family to visit more often but they are typical 'chain restaurant' people who prefer to pay more for a meal at Beefeaters or ZiZi's even though they somehow imagine those places are cheaper. The Orange Tree is wonderful and it shows in how busy it is every night of the week. It's sister restaurants The Saxon Mill and the Boot at Lapworth are equally as nice. read more
