But this year, I was very affected by something they did in customer service. The room we were given last night is our room with large windows that have the lights right outside of them that light up the building. This blazing light starts at sunset and end at sunrise. Even with the blackout blinds, it is bright in our room at night. We also can't look out the window after dark or before sunrise because of the glare of the light. When I asked them to please change our room, they said they did not have any other room in our "tier" which means in the price point we paid. The hotel is virtually empty this weekend. Nevertheless, they are choosing not to give us a different room as a service. I am so very hurt and disappointed. It's a great hotel and a great location. But this inflexibility, even for silver members like us, feels very sad and unnecessary.

Amy provides home made cooking that included a fruit parfait followed by a sausage bake. She sat us strategically as a super host would and we sat with a very nice couple. I've been keeping a mental list of bathroom flaws at Hampton Inns: Sink drains slowly, no stopper in sink, sink stopper pull doesn't work, faucet handle is loose, water is scalding hot except for at extreme 'Cold' travel of knob, sink water pressure is low, sink water pressure is ok but shower water pressure is barely a trickle, shower drains slowly, toilet paper holder is loose, et cetera --- except for the Hampton Inn in Corning-Painted Post, where everything worked as it should! Hurray! The breakfast area was clean and well-tended. Apparently HI has done away with the free cookies they used to have. Didn't see any during my recent vacation.

Don't get me wrong, it's expensive. But for once I felt like I'd gotten my money's worth! Everything everywhere was meticulously clean and well-kept. Our room was spacious and bright, with a private balcony and chairs, a couch and coffee table, and a full table that allowed us to take comfortable advantage of the room service breakfast. Potpourri sachets in the closet, free water bottles in the lobby, free coffee stations on each floor, and chocolates every night on the pillows--details, people! We also enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub, and of course the gorgeous patio and firepits overlooking the lake which was 80% of the reason we booked here. All of the staff we encountered, from the front desk to the housekeepers, were very friendly. I did think it was a little strange that the fitness center was in a whole different building and you have to walk across the parking lot to get to it, but hey--you get your steps in. The hotel is also very centrally located. On the water, of course, but next door to Seneca Harbor Station from which you can book lake cruises. It's also less than a mile from the entrance to Watkins Glen State Park and hiking trails and only a 5-10 minute walk from most restaurants. We did most things on foot. When you do get back in the car, there are multiple wineries within a 15-minute drive. The only problem the whole visit was the hotel internet, which was terrible every day. You could make do in the daytime, but at night, when everyone was back in their rooms after the day out exploring, it was slow to the point of unusable, and I ended up turning on my data hotspot to even be able to check my email. I would not suggest bringing time-sensitive work with you, and you should not expect to be able to stream videos on your devices. Just disconnect, you'll be less frustrated. There is an onsite restaurant and bar, and while it's nothing mind-blowing, it is a nice option to have (and is one of the few "higher end" type places in Watkins Glen). Menu includes a few of the standard local wines, which was nice!

When we checked in this place was almost fully occupied some working crews. Parking was filled with their vehicles and trucks. Found a parking near the side door by chance. Check in was smooth. They gave us a room in the ground floor itself. Amenities are Ok. The air conditioning was functional. That was the best thing on a hot summer day. Their breakfast area is smaller - options are limited - especially of you are someone with dietary restrictions. They've got a nice backyard to sit and enjoy the evenings or some fun time with kids. We used the laundry there - clean and quite useful. Our stay was a pleasant one. No hiccups. No hassles. Happy about the experience.

This specific location needs an overhaul in management it seems as well as staff in general.
