Enterprise…read morewas founded in 1841 by Cornelius Taylor, a Seminole War veteran, former timber agent, and first cousin to General Zachary Taylor. He was nicknamed the Thunder of Enterprise for his hot temper. He and about 20 others founded Enterprise at Fort Kingsbury, which had been abandoned after six weeks. Enterprise became a key location during the Seminole Wars due to its strategic position on Lake Monroe. Later, it thrived as a river town, thanks to steamboat transport along the St. Johns River where Enterprise was the last stop for the steamers. Enterprise was designated the county seat of Volusia County in 1854, solidifying its importance in the region. A yellow fever epidemic in the late 1880s severely impacted Enterprise's population, leading to the town's de-incorporation in 1895. Today Enterprise has worked hard to maintain a separate identity from its larger neighbors, DeBary and Deltona. A reminder from Enterprises earliest days is the community run, historic Enterprise Evergreen Cemetery. When the cemetery was created the African American section was not considered part of the cemetery and the dues collected for the upkeep of the cemetery were not applied to that side. The scrub overtook that section of the cemetery and many of the graves were lost. In 2000 volunteers from the DeBary Boy Scout troop began a clean up project of this neglected side of the cemetery including the graves of well to do George and Jenny McBurney. A century before, they were one of just two black families in Enterprise who lived in a two-story home. Other graves in the cemetery belong to early settlers and Confederate soldiers. If you have an interest in Central Florida history, this cemetery is worth a visit if you are in the area.

It is a well-maintained park and I guess is still open for burial. I seen a marker from 2018, as well as many from the 1800's and all points in between. I think the reason I like for three of your is that a gives us a glimpse into the past. Those who rest here lived from another time and within that period they laughed, cried, won and lost. I hope they loved and were loved. I would recommend a visit here. It's going to be pretty difficult to write this review but I'm so passionate about the experience…read morethat our family received with this business that it simply couldn't wait. The funeral home that we had worked with initially had filled up with other clients and was unable to accommodate our family member on December 30th. We found all of this out just a couple of hours before her passing which added to our stress. We set out to find a new place nearby that could accommodate our needs. After calling 6 other funeral homes we finally got to The Good Life Funeral Home. Brittany answered our call immediately (quite literally first ring). I explained our situation and she offered sympathy and comfort. She walked me through what everything we had planned would be with them and their process. I felt so at ease after talking to her that it really cushioned the blow of our family member passing a couple hours later. Again, we knew this was coming so we had hospice at home who called to pick up our family member. Brittany and Omar showed up at the house almost immediately and greeted me with the warmest welcome you could imagine at a time like that. Being that it was December 30th we were fully prepared to have to wait until after the holiday to do anything. However, since we had to get our family member to Puerto Rico immediately Brittany met us in their office the next day (On a Sunday; New Year's Eve nonetheless). Being in a Latin family of course we brought everyone with us to the consultation. Brittany greeted us again warmly and made everyone feel like they were at home. She was kind and more patient then I would expect anyone to be with that many opinions flying around. She walked us through the funeral home and explained how everything would work. Brittany continued to work behind the scenes to help us sort out all the little details (death certificate, travel itinerary, etc.). At no point did she take a break until it was all said and done. Now we get to the day of the service. We were warmly greeted by Pamela, Sarah and Angela who helped us manage the ceremony that day. They had a beautiful book, prayer cards and everything else set up and ready to go. The funeral home also provides coffee and allows you to bring whatever snack items you'd like. Everyone there that day truly helped make the experience so unique. We had people commenting to us that they had almost forgotten they were at a funeral but felt like they were at someone's home. I especially appreciated the demure approach of managing details behind the scenes. I made them aware that I would be the point of contact for the event. Any time a question needed answering they privately pulled me to the side and no one was the wiser. We liked the prayer cards so much that we asked Angela to make more for us to take for the ceremony in Puerto Rico. She immediately obliged and went way above and beyond for any request we had. The very next day I got a call from Angela to come pick up the death certificates. She was so kind, warm and professional through the whole process, and this was no exception. Fast forward now to transporting our family member home to Puerto Rico. As you can imagine, things on the island are still a mess from the hurricane. The funeral home/cemetery that our family uses as a final resting place is in a remote part of the island. They had to contract another home to store our family member and had a VERY small window in which they could pick her up on January 5th. This presented very unique challenges in getting her to the airport departing Orlando. Initially, there were a lot of issues getting our family member accepted at the airport. Brittany, Sarah and Angela did not let this stand in their way. Upon being denied at the initial time we were quoted, everyone worked with me to figure out the issue and get it addressed. Then, knowing the incredibly tight timeline we had the next day, they went above and beyond to transport our family member to the airport well after the close of business. While this is beyond their job description, they quite literally took every opportunity to ensure this transition home was successful. I have had the unfortunate opportunity to work with several funeral homes in the past. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that this experience will forever change my perception of the experience. I can't thank Brittany, Sarah, Angela, Pamela and Omar enough. Should you and your family ever need to find a funeral home to really take care of your loved one don't hesitate to contact The Good Life Funeral Home.

Prior to 1880, the people who resided in the Orlando, Florida area had no permanent burial location. Eight residents of the area purchased twenty-six acres of land for a cost of $1,800. Greenwood Cemetery has since grown to over eighty acres. The cemetery has many of Orlando's past prominent citizens buried there, including multiple Orlando mayors. One area of Greenwood Cemetery is the heartbreaking section known as Babyland and is the resting spot of children who passed away under the age of five. Greenwood Cemetery offers tours usually around Halloween and there are plenty of ghost stories. One humorous story is that of Fred Weeks. Mr. Weeks was a northern businessman who was swindled by three men who sold him useless swamp land and billed it as prime real estate. Weeks responded by buying a piece of land close to Greenwood Cemetery and erected a tombstone with the three men's name on it and the biblical verse, "A certain man went down from Jeruand fell among thieves." The men bought the land back from Weeks. But Weeks was not done with these less than honorable men. Upon his mausoleum in Greenwood Cemetery, he had the men's names inscribed along with the biblical verse again. It is said that Weeks haunts the graveyard, as do countless other restless spirits. Greenwood Cemetery is an important part of the history of Orlando and definitely worth a trip.
