They have about 10 beers on tap; I got the cold smoke scotch ale which was good. I also ordered the tater tots ($4) with salsa, shredded lettuce, and jalapenos which are toppings at no extra cost. However you can add other toppings such as guacamole, meat, queso, and sour cream each for a couple bucks more. I was actually hoping to get some dinner here based on some previous pictures and menus. However the bartender I talked to mentioned that the owner was leaving and taking his recipes with him, meaning that they had to scale back their menu to only be the typical dive bar food like wings and things. She also mentioned that the customers at the golf course actually prefer it to be a quiet bar for the golf course goers instead of a busier place so there isn't much desire to get a new full menu. If you're looking for a more substantial meal now moving forward this is not the place for you.

Each one was nearly an inch thick so it was nearly impossible to put my mouth around both those patties and the bun and the lettuce. That's OK though, I made due. I wasn't sure I could finish that whole burger because it was gigantic, but eventually, I did manage to finish it, but I could not finish the fries, which were also delicious. I catch a hangover after two beers these days..... and I like Beers..... Anyway, my lady has been bragging about the chicken fried steak @ the Motherload for about a month now. Holy sheet!!! Possibly the best chicken fried steak I've ever had... And my Grandma can cook!!! The Caesar drink was awesome, but I love my salt and Bloody Mary's...... So they added salt to my next Caesar and it was Very tasty... I had 3. I want to make it known, I returned for lunch 2days later for the Motherload melt ... And it was the BEST Melt I've ever had. Also worth noting I'm currently on an airplane headed back to Helena for another week stay.... I can tell you I will be eating a Motherload melt tomorrow morning, chased down with a Caesar or 3. We also don't care about sports, ever, so that always steers us to pick a quiet corner instead of big-screen central. The atmosphere is spacious, flowing, inviting, with a choice between brighter and darker seating spaces. It was not very busy, so not loud, but I can imagine it could get rowdy if it was full! The menu looked great, wanted to try so many things- but since we were just snacking and getting back on the road we decided on the meat and cheese board... one of the best we have ever had. And we've had more than a few, in many places, for many prices. This one (on their menu in late July), was $16- an excellent price point for the variety, quality, and quantity! I wrote it down, to make sure they know how awesome we think it was: smoked duck, wild boar sausage, spicy beef salami (that one being our least fave), with 4 mini blocks of cheddar- smoked, aged, onion, sage. Also a personal fresh mini baguette and some cute little toasted spicy pepitas were served alongside. Good lord. So yummy. If you want burgers and fries, go upstairs- you will be missing out. I would like to add that the whole staff seemed to enjoy their jobs, were very welcoming and smiling and cordial. Heather was our wonderful bartender/server, who made us feel right at home (even though Minneapolis is quite far away!). So I had an interesting experience here…read more I sat down at the bar and asked the bartender if they had a menu. She replied, "Lucca's is closed" referring to the Italian restaurant next door. I replied, "No, a drinks menu" to which she did not give me a menu but said, "Do you like sweet drinks?" At this point I had no idea where this conversation was going but I replied, "No.." and then she said okay and handed me a menu. I asked why and she said that she can make better drinks than what the menu says. She said she only liked a couple drinks on the menu (ginger basil martini, prairie press, and maybe the huckleberry mule and that's it) and she also does not recommend any of the wines. The brutal honesty is good for me and bad for the bar, but some saleswoman she is I guess? Who knows. I asked her if she was the only person who had these strong opinions about the menu and she said no and that all the bartenders felt the same way. If everyone feels the same way about them and they're the ones who have to serve customers then they should make a change right? It's just weird that you have that attitude towards the business and then project that toward the customers. I said I'd listen to her recommendations and ordered the ginger basil martini ($12) which was actually pretty good. It's refreshing and slightly sweet from the sugar rim. She mentioned that she made the drink less sweet because she knew that I didn't like sweet drinks and then went on that menus can't offer the same personalization as a bartender who listens. I mean I guess the intention is good that she wants to be able to personalize cocktails to the customer's taste preferences but again the attitude of going on and on about how you're a great and thoughtful bartender just rubbed me the wrong way. For my second drink I wasn't going to order off the menu so I asked if she could make a last word. She didn't know what that was and I told her how to make it. She replied, "I don't know what green chartreuse is." I said, "Okay never mind, how about a paper plane?" Again she did not know what that was and I listed the ingredients and she said, "What's amaro?" At this point I'm frustrated so I just ordered an old fashioned ($12). You go on and on about how you can get creative and make a variety of drinks but you don't even know what green chartreuse or amaro are. So you're not as knowledgeable of a bartender as you think you are. The same type of attitude and boastfulness happened after the second drink as it did the first. I seriously couldn't wait to finish my drink and get out of there which never happens. It felt like lazy bartending for not amazing cocktails for craft cocktail prices. The negativity and complaining is just not the vibe I want at a bar. Another note: the men's restroom does not lock but not just that, it does not close all the way so it's always slightly open outward and I don't know why no one has bothered to fix that. Many things are very wrong here; I don't how to fix them but it just didn't give me a good vibe and left a bad taste in my mouth.
