It's a great vintage bowling alley with a lot of character -- not a big flashy place, which honestly adds to the charm. They have 8 lanes and it worked really well for the event. We bowled for the fundraiser and they also used the large side room for a big raffle and gathering area, which was perfect for the group. It made it easy for everyone to hang out, socialize, and participate in the raffle between games. We didn't eat while we were there, but we did have drinks and the service was friendly and attentive even with a full crowd in the building. There's also a patio area that looked like a great place to sit when the weather is nice. Overall it was a really fun atmosphere and a great place to host a fundraiser or small tournament. Definitely a Cedarburg spot with some classic bowling alley charm.

He had three young kids with us and an hour was plenty. The guy at the counter quoted us $27 and said we pay after. 30 minutes in, the lane broke. It was fixed in a couple minutes. 45 minutes in, the motor on the ball return died. The staff member tried to fix it. Ten minutes later, he turns to the other family and offered to put them on a different lane (but they were full and lanes were about to be taken up by the league), but told them the motor died. We stood there never given any info while the guy went back to go bartend. My husband went up to pay since we figured that's that, even though no one wanted to talk to us. When my husband went to pay, the guy tried to charge him almost $40, which was more than quoted, and us not even finishing one game. After my husband disagreed with the price since we were there less than expected, had a broken game we couldn't even finish, we paid half. No apology (fully understand they can't control an electronic component, but some kind of sympathy is just being human and a good business person). I was more upset that we didn't get any kind of communication that our game was cut short and there was no solution. Unfortunately, we will not be back.

Now at UW-M Panther Arena (the old Arena, just west of BMO Harris Bradley Center), the games are high-scoring, and they try to make the games fun, it's just that with less than 1,000 people at a game- it's kind of not as thrilling as going to see a Bucks game, or even an Admirals game. My son and I went on 80's night, and the Wave crew did a great job spinning all manner of 80's music, from early breakdance hip-hop, to hair metal, to Top 40. There's lots of in between time for on-field audience activities, check their website to enter if you're going to a match! Our fave players were Bennett and Pablo (it's just 'Pablo', like Sting, Prince, Beckham...). I was happy to see a local restaurant 'the Simmer' offering healthy food for the night, and people responded by lining up for kale and black bean salads, and the like. Milwaukee sports stadiums need more of this- rent out your space to local restaurants for unique options. We really did enjoy the game, but my expectations are just lowered with more of a small market experience.

The first thing I noticed was the size of this place. Apparently there's two rinks, which definitely makes sense. We were on the north rink. The stands are nice and even offer ADA/accessible seating--not something I typically expect at a rink like this. For my fellow sports photographers: absolutely my new favorite rink to shoot at. The glass is WELL maintained and clean. I can actually get "behind the post" shots here. Can't say that about many other rinks! The lighting is light years better than most other rinks. Overall, it seems to be a great rink and well-managed.

(Milwaukee Falls was also the birthplace of Paramount Records.) The park offers a large pavillion that can be rented, an open air octagon picnic shelter, an archery range, a horseshoe pitch, a 9-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball, fishing and a canoe launch on the Milwaukee River. Or, you can just relax and listen to the soothing sounds of the rapids that were once known as Milwaukee Falls. The site was the location of a large limestone operation in the late 19th Century. The Milwaukee Falls Lime Company was incorporated in 1890 and produced lime here until about 1920. At one time, there were five lime kilns here, at a time when Wisconsin was third in national lime production. On the southern end of the park is the open area left by the quarrying operation. A branch railroad line brought fuel in and hauled lime out, the abutments of a long-abandoned railroad bridge remain on the rivers's edge. Why kilns? Silurian dolomite, or limestone, is found in great abundance in eastern Wisconsin. It is comprised of calcium, magnesium, carbon and oxygen. When heated to temperatures approaching 2,000º the limestone breaks down, releasing carbon dioxide and the remaining powder, lime, was used for construction (plaster and mortar) and for whitewash. Farmers used it for soil conditioning and it was used in the tanning process by leather tanneries. In time, other chemicals became available and lime fell out of favor. Both pastoral and historical in one spot, Lime Kiln Park is a great place to play, admire history, or just listen to the relaxing sound of the Milwaukee Rapids. (Other extant lime kilns in the area include Lime Kiln Park in Menomonee Falls, Hadfield Lime Company in Waukesha on inaccessible private property, and Trimborn Farms in Greenfield.)
