In the two weeks leading up to the actuality of the event, we waffled on timing - "Oh, that's not terribly convenient for me, I like to nap at 1:42pm on Sundays" or amounts of humidity/sunshine - "Holy hell it's hot out! Eff this!" and locations to, you know, hit it around - "We could head to the courts by UEC, or at Lake Park, or the ones down by the lakefront but I don't want to do that because people will watch us down there and we'll wait until we get gooood to play there," etc. Little did I know that *Pumping Station Park has two more than adequate courts just kickin' it in the back of the park, behind the "batting cages" and next to the basketball courts. Win! *I never knew what the park across the street from Colectivo Humboldt was called until I went to check in yesterday and had to ask Amy. Pumping Station Park... the more you know! This park is small but mighty: a baseball/kickball diamond, tennis courts, batting cages, a basketball court... they've got what you need, MKE. Lots of leagues play sportballs at this small but mighty park... I often see practices of all types and sorts. (Read: post-work/school days and summertime weeknights can be busy.) Adequate green space to play catch with a real-life leather football with your significant other, too. If your significant other is good at throwing a football from 50+ yards, you may end up jamming the living daylights of your ring finger like me and subsequently endure a re-occurring sportsball "injury." Ow. My tender tendons. I'll be back to play lots more tennis with my friend Amy and maybe my friend Jessie, too. (And though it's a long shot, maybe L, too.)

The field looks almost the same as it did back in 1963 with a lot of improvements. What is missing is the light pole in left field. It was in fair territory and it took me awhile to learn how to play around it. I also remember that chasing the foul balls down the hill was assigned to the freshmen or youngest players on the team. I chased my fair share of foul balls. In 1963, we posted the best record ever for a Riverside baseball team with 12 wins. We also ran from the high school across the Locust Street bridge to the field everyday for practice with Coach Buro following us in his car! But it was also the many many days we played pick up baseball games during the summer after the season was over. We all practically lived at Pumping Station. I am glad to see that the Riverside continues to play their home games here and have kept up the success and tradition of baseball at Riverside High School!

Our bartender, Sam and his trainee, Lola were so delightful we can't wait to go back and see them again. The golf area was a BLAST the kiddos were having fun through all the courses. Pricing for kids and adults were VERY reasonable (definitely compared to other places we looked at) The hours run pretty long on the weekends so this would be a great date night spot too.

It's built kinda into a hillside, making for some beautiful and tricky holes. However, it's really unfortunate that it makes it ADA inaccessible. It's gotten much worse this year and honestly, I really feels like they don't care anymore. The real kicker here is that they have a trick shot 19th hole - a single putt that can win you a free game. We always let my son hit the shot, because he's younger and would appreciate it more than we would. After several years, he finally scored it tonight - and the guy behind the counter refused to honor it. He said he took two shots, which is not allowed - despite that NOT being posted ANYWHERE. Again, he hit his ball and missed (incidentally, the ball goes into the water when you miss, so you can't cheat), so I gave him my ball and that's how he scored. It's a pure luck shot, so it's not like the kid was sizing up the hole. The kid behind the counter simply refused and was downright rude about it, just coming off as mean and accusatory like we were trying to cheat (when you can't cheat the shot, period) and he completely deflated what was an exciting experience for my son. It took a fun ending to a day and shot it down the toilet all because this kid wanted to be rude. Seriously, uncalled for. We will not be coming back, period. We were willing to put up with the lack of repair work because we enjoyed the course, but this put things over the edge for us and we will definitely not be returning.

The course isn't bad, but it's nothing special either. Kind of has that Wisconsin Dells feel to it, but without being in the Dells.... The balls have ZERO bounce to them (I'm guessing to keep them of the Freeway) so any type of bank shot is not going to happen. It's hard to have a bad time mini golfing, but this was as average of a time as I've had doing so. There are certainly better courses in the area.
