Been here many many times. Very nice little playhouse, newly renovated, comfortable seats. No bad seats in this theater. They do sell wine and little snacks. We have enjoyed many shows and musical here.

01-16-2025 New! Improved! It's amazing what just a coat of paint can do to turn things around and the Lake Worth Playhouse has done a lot more than just slap on some paint... This is the most beautiful 100 year old in Lake Worth.

I can't believe I've been living in West Lake Worth for almost 20 years and I've never been to this place. I wanted to see if Christmas Carol and it was $38 per ticket. The building itself is pretty old and one can not help but look up and hope the roof does not cave in lol. The seats were pretty comfortable, the acoustics were good and we were able to hear quite well. It is in the heart of downtown Lake Worth, so it is very easy to do Lunch or Dinner depending on what time play you have. Will definitely go here again to support local actors and local community

I love when historic building are saved, especially historic theaters and you can find this gem on Lake Avenue in downtown Lake Worth. The Lake Worth Playhouse started out as the Oakley Theatre and it is the oldest building on the register of the Art Deco Society of Palm Beach County. The Playhouse was built at a cost of $150,000 Lucien and Clarence Oakley, two brothers who came to South Florida from Illinois during Florida's land boom years in the early 1920's. Their plan was to build a movie palace and vaudeville house. The theatre first opened its doors on November 3, 1924. The first movie shown was a silent film based on the Broadway play Welcome Stranger. The movie was accompanied by a new $10,000 Wurlitzer pipe organ and a five-piece orchestra from Fort Lauderdale. The Hurricane of 1928 almost completely demolished the theater but the brother's rebuilt it only to lose it for good to the economic downturn of the Great Depression. The theater went on to the have a succession of owners before closing for good in the 1950's. On December 1, 1953, the Lake Worth Playhouse was incorporated by a group of Lake Worth citizens and they put on performances at the old Lake Worth City Hall. The community came out in support of the theater company and performances sold out. They were eventually able to purchase The Oakley in October of 1975 for $60,000 and they made repairs with grant money. Today the Lake Worth Playhouse is a 501c3 nonprofit community theatre offering year round programs which include dramas, comedies, musicals, Broadway and children's shows, ballets and operas in cinema, live concert series, and alternative programming. 2022/2023 is their 70th season. In addition to the main stage independent and foreign films are shown in the Stonzek Theatre. Dial "M" For Murder was recently staged earlier this month. Next up for April is Newsies the Broadway Musical. Stories have said that Lucien loved the theater so much that he never left. His ghost is said to still haunt the halls moving objects, leaving his reflection in mirrors, and stopping through the halls. For those still living, it is wonderful that this historic theater is still a vibrant part of the Lake Worth cultural scene.

Great small-town theatre! We saw A Christmas Carol in December and just saw School of Rock and let me tell you, they nailed it! Cast was awesome, show was great, and the kid's performance in vocals and instruments were next level. YOU'RE IN THE BAND. The theatre itself is on the smaller side in an older historic building so it makes for a more intimate show with no bad seats. Right in the center of downtown Lake Worth. So fun to watch local talent and great unique date night idea for those struggling to get out of their same ole routine.

Lovely historic theatre! I love having the opportunity to support the arts so I definitely recommend coming here to see a show. I had the please of seeing Newsies tonight, five out of five stars! Truly wonderful performance. The kids have so much talent. There's so much charm in this building. Snacks are on sale for $2, water $2, and they sell some alcohol as well.

Finally got around to a show here. Quaint small 1925 theater. Nice friendly ushers. Box office gal not so much but whatever. Bathroom for elder women is a definite challenge and they really should do something considering their audience. I'm a male and wasn't an issue for me. Gypsy was okay. Not sure what I expected but I've seen other community theater production that seemed better. Polite older crowd. I'd maybe come again for say an original show or music comedy things.

Parking is free in the garage before 5 PM. The building was constructed in 1926 as a Methodist church. During the Hurricane of 1928, the church basement was used to shelter people. By the 1980's, downtown West Palm Beach was rundown and associated with poverty and drug use. In 1996 in an effort to make the area more business and tourist friendly, the 55 acres surrounding the theater was demolished. Mayor Nancy Graham offered developers the opportunity to redesign the square as long as they preserved this building. The church underwent a six million dollar restoration by REG Architects turning into a multipurpose performance hall with shops on the first floor. It anchored City Place which is now called The Square. The 850-seat, 11,000-square-foot theater opened in 2000 and it was used for arts performances, receptions, community meetings and other events. The theater was named in honor of patron of the arts, Harriet Himmel who donated three million dollars in exchange for naming rights. Today the building is once again a church. Christ Fellowship Church holds Sunday services at 9:30 AM and 11 AM. This beautiful building stands majestically as the backdrop for The Squares many restaurants, shops, and public art pieces. I hadn't been to The Square since it was City Place and I was impressed with how great everything looked. During colonial times from the early 16th century through the mid-19th century, the music of Mexico's indigenous nations were influenced by the musical styles of Spanish colonists and the African slave population to form the music now called Mariachi. After the end of the Mexican revolution in the 1920's, the government began promoting Mexican folk music as a source of national pride. It is around this time that the Mariachi costumes became elaborate taking inspiration from Jalisco charros, Mexican ranchers and cowboys. By the middle of the 20th century, mariachi music had made its way into US culture, first in California, then throughout the southwest, and eventually throughout the nation. Mariachi has now become one of the most recognizable Latin music types. Carrying the Mariachi torch in South Florida is the Mariachi Show Mexicanisimo. This musical group can be hired to perform at your private events including birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations. I was able to watch them perform at a friends milestone birthday celebration. The singers had great harmony and they can sing in both Spanish and English. They offer 30 and 50 minute performances. This group was very professional and their music and vocals was enjoyed by everyone at the party. Mariachi Show Mexicanisimo is a beautiful representation of Mexican culture.

Unfortunately, my recent visit to see the Peking Acrobats was a completely different experience--one that left me feeling singled out and deeply uncomfortable. I understand that policies evolve. Paid parking is one thing, even if it feels like an added burden on top of already expensive tickets. What's harder to overlook is how I was treated from the moment I arrived. While parking, I backed into a spot as I've done on previous visits and was immediately and aggressively corrected by a parking attendant. If it's head-in parking only, that's perfectly fine--but the tone was unnecessarily harsh. What stood out even more was that a nearby vehicle was also backed in and remained that way without being addressed or corrected. Despite that, I was the one singled out. Inside the venue, things escalated. When I approached the information desk to ask about a note on my ticket for a complimentary pre-show drink, the staff member questioned the legitimacy of my tickets--where I got them, when I got them--and then had my family and me step aside in the lobby while they rescanned them to confirm they were "real." We stood there for about 15 minutes, feeling as though we had done something wrong, simply for asking a question. What was most telling was what happened next. When an elderly white patron approached the same desk with the exact same note on his ticket, the tone immediately shifted. Only then did staff begin resolving the issue, and only then were we directed to redeem the drinks we had already been delayed over. The contrast was hard to ignore. Unfortunately, the pattern continued. After purchasing drinks and a few snacks, we were stopped almost immediately after leaving the concession line and told we could not take food into the theater. Again, I complied without issue. But once seated, I couldn't help but notice multiple other patrons--directly around us--eating inside the theater: cookies, popcorn, even outside food. None of them were stopped. None of them were approached. By that point, the issue was no longer about the rules--it was about how selectively they were enforced. In the span of less than an hour, I was approached three separate times by staff, each interaction carrying an edge of suspicion or correction that others around me did not seem to experience. As an Asian-American man attending with my interracial family, it became increasingly difficult to dismiss how targeted it felt. What should have been a joyful evening turned into something else entirely. It's a difficult feeling to describe--being made to feel out of place in a venue you've supported for years, and then having to process that in front of your child. This experience left me disappointed and honestly hurt. The Kravis Center has always been a place I respected, but after this, it's hard to see myself returning anytime soon.
