Antique car ride
Justin H.

Lake Winnie (or Lake Winnepesaukah) is an "old school" amusement park dating back to 1925. This isn't Disney or even Dollywood. But, it has a certain charm and novelty to it. This park is like stepping back in time to experience an amusement park in its original form. For kids 7-12, it's great fun because they can do most of the rides and they don't mind that it's less polished than the bigger parks. Here's what I like: 1) They have a lot of cardinal type rides --really good ones. Tilt a whirls, scrambler, tea cups that swirl in the air, pirate boat, antique cars, etc. It's all here. Also, they have some "real" bumper cars - ones that really bump with force. Just awesome! 2) It's less crowded: In my experience, Lake Winnie has almost no lines. You can walk onto most rides or wait like 5 minutes. So, your day will be spent on actual rides. Not waiting. 3) They have an amazing playground. Yes, a playground. It has an array of slides and a mini obstacle course. Trust me - your kids will really enjoy it. 4) Some rides are just comical or unusual. Their one inside "ride" is called Wacky Factory. It's like a 1960s hodge podge. It's a little lame and dated. But, it's actually kind of startling too because of unexpected noises and sights. Another ride, the Boat Chute, is equally unusual. It consists of a boat ride down a dark metal tunnel (no music, no light -- just silence). Then, a drop down a chute into water. It's definitely peculiar. But, maybe it's for good reason. The Boat Chute is the oldest mill chute water ride in the United States - opened in 1926! It may have been cutting age 90 years ago. 5) The water park is pretty nice and was built in 2013. We have been there once and it isn't very crowded. I think it would be a good choice for kids trying their first water park. 6) You can bring your own food and have a picnic in their covered eating areas (including a special "cake house"). Again, this may be a throwback to another era when people viewed amusement parks as a picnic-type of outing. The negatives: 1) Lake Winnie is old and dated. If you want modern amusement park experiences, you won't like it and probably be bored. 2) Some rides need a little TLC and refurbishment. But, with that said, everything seemed to be safe and working well. 3) The food looked like fried, unhealthy amusement park food. 4) The cost is similar to fancier and newer places like Dollywood or Six Flags. Overall: I really enjoyed Lake Winnie with my young kids. We also have been to Dollywood and Disney. But, the kids still like (and ask for) Lake Winnie. It's fun rides and relaxed atmosphere are great. So, I highly recommend them for a day of fun.

again, again!

This theme park is adorable. Going to Lake Winnie is kind of like stepping back in time fifty years or so. I guess some of the rides are original from when the park opened, some have just been there a long time and the park overall is made to look old fashioned. There's nothing super exciting here... just a bunch of good old fun vintage rides, an old wooden roller coaster and a bunch of great photo ops. The price is good. Get in for $10, get in with fourteen ride tickets for $18 or get in with an unlimited wrist band for $26, I do believe. Even if you aren't into rides, this park is really pretty and picturesque, with a lake right in the middle. Unfortunately for me, I was here on one of those really hot days. It was 100 F at six pm and I had to leave the park and go somewhere air conditioned because I thought I was going to throw up. Yeah, that's how much of a pansy I am. But I met back up with my friends after dark and we still had fun. Tip: if it's summer, wait till evening to visit Lake Winnie because daytime heat is brutal, with no public areas with A/C for a respite. Unless you want to visit first aid, of course :)

Everyone was rude and there was only like 7-8 rides open! It's not the same as it once was and Ik they could do better!

The rides were janky and dirty. Food was painfully overpriced; we paid almost $50 for two hotdogs.

In addition, the park food is very reasonable and much cheaper compared to places such as Six Flags.

As the train climbs higher, the Incline gets steeper, which, for me, was exciting and scary at the same time. There's a recorded history that plays to give some background along the way. The views are beautiful both going up and down, so no complaints there. Where it lost points for me is the price. $22 per person (13+) feels pretty steep for such a short experience. It's 10 minutes up and 10 minutes back down. For our family of four, that came out to $88 which didn't feel like a great value. At the top, there are observation decks, a bar, and a souvenir shop with snacks and fudge. I was expecting more unique souvenirs related to the Incline or Lookout Mountain, but the shop's main focus was Moon Pies. Also, not having clear prices on items was frustrating. We had to ask about a couple of things. Overall, it was an unique experience. Not sure if we would do it again at that price.

It's a great ride to introduce friends to Chattanooga and to be able to look out and see the city and surrounding states. Make sure your friends don't have issues with height before you go. I had two friends, who were not prepared for how sharp the incline is. For some reason, they thought we would be on flatland once we got to the top, but the railroad is inclined the entire top stop. We enjoy looking out at the surrounding states and then going down to the bottom floor to look at how the rail system works. Don't forget to stop in the gift shop as they had some of the best shortbread cookies. I've been two other times and these were a new item. I'll definitely return if I have friends in town visiting!
