I had my AC Compressor and Condenser replaced by Pep Boys in April 2016. Six months later the air started blowing hot, but was intermittent and seem to be working fine the six times I took it in between October 2016 - April 2017. Finally in June 2017 the air continued to blow hot for three weeks, when I took it into Pep Boys as I knew the parts were under warranty. I asked to have an oil change and alignment performed at the same time. I waited 5 hours for services to be completed and then the Service Manager presented me with a list of 4 repairs that the mechanic felt needed to be done immediately. #1 - Right Axel replaced. Boot cracked and oil has leaked out. #2 - Tires. Tread is at a 4 (New tire tread is a 10) #3 - Front Strut Replacement (alignment would be needed after this - approx cost $100.00) #4 - Rear Shock Replacement The quote $3,087.23 I decided to speak with my son, who is a mechanic in Alaska, before having the repairs done. He told me to get the axel fixed immediately as that could be dangerous, the tires were no rush, but it was time for them to be replaced and the struts and shocks only needed to be replaced if the vehicle was shaking. My 2008 Nissan Altima is extremely quiet and runs smooth. I then starting asking family and friends for recommendations and was referred to Rich's Car Cool and Firestone. I only asked for a quote on the axel. Firestone quoted $407.00 and $69.00 for alignment or $169.00 for lifetime alignment. Rich quoted me $211.00. Rich also came highly recommended by three people, so my gut told me this was where I needed to take my car. Rich was true to his word, actually even better! I never told Rich that my AC Compressor had just been replaced three days before (Replaced new on Tuesday by Pep Boys and blowing hot by Wednesday evening), however, he called me and asked if my AC Compressor was replaced by him. I told him my story. He said the compressor is new, but the rings are old and not the correct rings, therefore oil is leaking. I asked what he would charge to fix it for me, he said $75.00. I was on my way to pick up the car and he said he would have it done by the time I got there. My car was ready when I got there. He showed me the rings and he let me keep them. He also showed me the axel that came out of my vehicle and gave me a mini lesson. I was extremely impressed and very thankful for this honest man. So, with all this knowledge I felt the need to pass along a HIGH recommendation for Rich's Car Cool and a HUGE warning to stay away from Pep Boys. Honestly, I would recommend not going to any Pep Boys, unless you grew up with the mechanic or he is family. I pray this information is helpful and that other's do not get caught in these shyster traps! And yes ..... I did eventually ask Rich about my shocks and struts. He told me that if my car isn't shaking then there is really no need. It would just be performing maintenance, not a necessity, and wasting money. He suggested I wait to replace them when they actually need to be replaced!!!!! Wow!

I was told a diagnosis would be performed to confirm the problem. After about an hour, I was called and told that nothing was wrong with my A/C at all, but that my brakes and rotors supposedly needed $1,700 worth of work. I figured everything was fine with the A/C since they said it checked out, so I left. I didn't even make it a mile down the road before the exact same A/C clutch issue happened again. I pulled over, checked it myself, and saw the same symptoms I came in for. I turned around and brought the truck back, only to be told, "Oops, we didn't check that part -- we only checked if the A/C turned on." I had explicitly stated the issue was the clutch not disengaging, meaning the clutch plate was staying engaged even with the A/C off. If the diagnostic process was thorough, this would have been caught immediately. The disappointing part is that the focus seemed to be more on selling a brake job than actually diagnosing what I came in for. No clear diagnostic process, no communication, and no accountability. The one positive was that I eventually spoke directly with the mechanic, who was helpful -- but that only happened because I approached him myself, not because management facilitated it. Overall, poor service and lack of proper diagnosis. I would not recommend this shop based on my experience. Paid $159 to have my truck run for a hour.

I've had the following things done on my Volvo in the past few years: rear brake calipers and all brake rotors, a new clutch, idle air control valve, strut rod bushings, and radiator. I've had both Eric and Dave work on my car and they're great guys to deal with. Eric told me that he felt my car was well maintained and that it had "been touched only by mechanics who knew what they were doing." Dave is great at explaining issues and we once talked about Irv Gordon and his legendary "3 million mile" Volvo. I've had great work from this shop. Now that I have another car as well I'm not using the Volvo as much but if I ever need any more work, I'll definitely be back. The only star is due to the fact that some work has taken longer than anticipated, but in one instance they gave me one of their own "for sale" cars as a temporary loaner for a day because of the inconvenience.

I've sat in their poorly heated (it was frigid that day) waiting room (I wouldn't recommend staying if you don't have to) for hours. At 11am I started to think there was something wrong but nobody said anything and figured they were busy. Although 2-3 other customers who arrived after me seemed to get their cars dealt with a lot quicker. At 1pm the owner asks me to come in the back and says they did what they were supposed to but now there was some awful noise.. and it was awful. There was a loud clanging clicking noise that was unbearable.... something was really wrong. Rather than be apologetic or tell me they would figure it out, he was annoyed and acted like it was my fault. They gave me two options, 1. I could take it somewhere else and still pay them $1000 for the repairs they did make or 2. they'd have to work on it the rest of the day and would expect to be finished by the end of the next day. I rented a car from enterprise who came to pick me up and thought I'd be getting my car back the next day. At 3pm the next day I haven't heard from them and call to find out if they will be done. I've been more than patient and understanding up to this point and I get told they don't have the man-power or time for this and get hung up on. If they don't have the man-power, couldn't they hire somebody else? Two days later, I'm now racking up the cost of a rental car, my husband calls to speak with the owner about what is going on. Same story, they don't know and have spent 10 hours looking for the problem, apparently. It takes 4 days to get the car, they're rude, they charge me $3000, the original quote was $700. And I'm out the cost of a rental car for 4 days... not cheap. I went here because I was told these were the best people to go to, they were a family business blah blah blah.. NEVER AGAIN!!

This building is located off of 436 right behind a building called Pet Bazzar. Stopped in around 430pm after work and walked in and talked to a Tiffany. She said she wouldn't be able to get someone to do a test drive since it was almost closing and they had to work on other cars. I was ok with this as the next day I was off. I'm here today and the owner, Bill was here and I told him my situation. We took the car for a test drive and he confirmed my diagnosis. Front rotors and pads. I called another mechanics shop in Tampa. The price quotes were about the same. From hearing Bill talk about the issue along the test drive, I can see why many people from the Happenings in Casselberry group page on Facebook have given this business high phrase. He will give you an honest opinion. He won't talk about pricing because he wants you to have a safe riding car. Pricing comes later which was cheaper then a few places around town. The time frame to get the car fixed was about 2 hours which was totally fine. I'll definitely will come back here again for any servicing needed. You should too!
