Beautiful Grounds, Shockingly Unprofessional Management…read more We stayed at Moose Hillock in 2023 and had an amazing time--clean cabins, beautiful pool, friendly staff. This year was the complete opposite. From the start, store employees were cold and dismissive. My 5-year-old tried to chat with a cashier who completely ignored her. At checkout, when I politely shared my disappointment, the young woman said "whatever." Then a manager named Ed came in, looked up my reservation, and told me he had written in my file that I was an "entitled, rude, and pissy b****." He smirked and told me to "write that in my review," then sarcastically wished me a "safe" ride home so he'd never have to see me again. The property is gorgeous, but buyer beware: that beauty hides a management team whose behavior can be erratic, combative, and alarmingly disconnected from professional standards.

Empty nesters and retirees, this place is for you!…read more Moose Hillock RV Resort is amazing with huge sites, over the top amenities, an amazing pool, a full calendar of events, responsive and engaged owners and a terrific staff. You could never leave the site and be busy, entertained, and relaxed! But it is also a great home base for the active RVers. Did someone say Pickleball? Disc Golf? Both are only 2.5 miles away, and the YMCA and Crandall park just 7 miles away have both also! (I join the Y every summer here for the pool and fitness center. The staff are amazing!) More into nature? There are 49 hiking trails just within the Lake George area and many more just outside of Lake George. You can choose the easy ones all the way up to the difficult and many of them have amazing views at the summit to reward you for the effort. Or does the water draw you in? Of course, there is boating and fishing at lake George, but there is also kayaking and river rafting. Not only can you kayak Lake George itself, but Glen Lake is another of my favorites, and there is a great 5 mile kayak down the Schroon River. Not only is it down river, but when you get a good tail wind, you are really just steering the yak! Do you like to bike/Ebike? The Empire bike trail is just down the road in Fort Ann, the Lake George Bike trail just inside of town, one of the Vermont rail trails is just over 30 minutes away, and there is a 10+ mile ride just south at the Saratoga National Historical Park (a bike ride AND history if you want to stop at all the sites!) Moose Hillock has it all for us retirees and empty nesters. Not only does it have endless activities both on site and off, but there is just something about camping that slows down the world around you and puts things into focus. It's campfires and your favorite beverage while playing a favorite board game (backgammon is our go to!) It's eggs, bacon, and or pancakes on the griddle in the morning (or just smelling it from all the nearby sites!) It's spotting deer and other critters during a morning walk around the site and smelling the sweet vanilla like scent of milkweed. It stops all the clutter floating around in your head and gratitude flows through you. Stop thinking about it and start planning your trip. You have been showing up for your work and your families for decades. Now it's time to show up for you! Moose Hillock has everything you want and everything you deserve. For transparency, I am not affiliated with Moose Hillock, I was not asked to write this review, and I get nothing in return for this review. I am just a very happy camper, and I want to see the park thrive and continue on for many years so I can start bringing my grandkids here (first one is due in November!) One more thing. Check out the seasonal / long term options. In addition to seasonal sites, they have spring and fall package deals. The park is generally quieter during spring and fall, but it's also a little cooler. Hope to see you around the campsite! A happy camper Faith Banks

The park hosts 4 cabins, 22 tent/RV sites, and 21 lean-to sites located around two paved/well-maintained dirt roads on the premises. It appears to be open Memorial Day weekend to late October. It is a breeze to find, easily located just off Route 100. The Appalachian Trail runs right through the park so you may catch a glimpse of some thru-hikers on their journey between Maine and Georgia! The park is very well-maintained! The campsite was neatly raked, the fire pit cleaned out for use. I stayed at campsite #1 and it was quite spacious...a bit further removed from the road than the other campsites. The whole site was marked out with a fine gravel, plenty of room for parking and maneuvering the car. Each road loop contains modern bathrooms and coin-operated hot showers. There are areas for picnicking, volleyball, horseshoes, trash/recycling, and drinking water. Kent Pond is just across the way complete with boat launch and fishing! Booking and check-in were a breeze for this location. I called 10 days before our intended arrival and got a site no problem. On arrival, the ranger at the park office was very friendly and sold us firewood and ice straight from there. If you need any assistance during off-hours, the ranger lives in a cute house attached to the park office. They encouraged us to knock on the door at any time if we needed help. The campsite is pet-friendly and I came across quite a few well-behaved dogs during my stay. Quiet hours are from 10pm-7am. The park itself is pretty quiet all day long... I heard nothing but birds chirping, trees rustling, and a bit less-welcoming: the traffic from Route 100. This didn't bother me so much since I generally wear earplugs to sleep but something to consider if you prefer a more rustic atmosphere when camping. Tent sites are between $20-$22/night, $27-$29 for a lean-to site, and $50 for cabins. There is a 2-night minimum for reservations. Affordable, clean, convenient... I would definitely stay here again!

We had a particularly bad interaction with him in the swimming area. He came up to us, well within 6ft with no mask on, immediately yelling that this area was a "no swim zone." We politely asked him to put a mask on or please back up. We tried to explain we didn't feel safe at the beach area due to the large crowd. We walked to the front to ask the staff where we should swim to socially distance. They suggested the picnic area to us. His response to us was "well I'm in charge, I don't care about a mask and will evict you if I see any of you in the water." It was pretty harsh. We weren't the only group that had an issue with Ed. It was a known joke among several different groups in the camping/beach area we overheard/spoke to that you had to "watch out for him." We have some friends who recommended Hearthstone since they had been camping there for over 20 years and they mentioned that it's never been like that in the past. They said it was Ed's first year on the job and he was brutal towards all the campers and staff. We saw the rest of the weekend Ed consistently break the 6ft barrier, never having a mask on and talking/yelling at all different patrons. Even in the check in area where a mask is required, he was sitting in the 6 x 10 ft enclosed area with no mask on while campers checked in. The rest of the staff was great. Everyone was wearing masks from the front desk area, assistant manager, maintenance teams, campfire wood drop off team, etc. Ed was the only one who was difficult but was also the one closely interacting with the most people. We won't be returning as long as he is managing the campground.

It is VERY much off the beaten path and once you turn on Somerset Rd., it's a good 3 or 4 mile drive to get to the general parking, picnic area near the water. Oh yeah, the road isn't paved either so it's best to have a 4x4 or some sort of vehicle with tires that can handle the trek. The general parking area is a decent size, there are a few picnic tables and a port-a-potty which was surprisingly clean. The reservoir itself is huge and great for kayaking or canoeing, neither of which we did, but I did see quite a few people there enjoying themselves on the water. There is one general walking direction which takes you to several different hiking paths and there is even a cute little bridge overlooking a beautiful stream. It had rained that morning and with leaves falling, the trails were a little slippery at points, but nothing that made me feel unsafe. I'd definitely recommend wearing sneakers or hiking boots of some kind. Between the group of us, we had 3 dogs and none of them were on a leash; people really didn't seem to care and everyone was friendly. The dogs enjoyed swimming in the water and I enjoyed looking at it. I'd most definitely go back to Somerset Reservoir with a camera and a light lunch to kick back and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

It's a beautiful little private island with a pit toilet and fire pit with picnic tables. This year we spent one night at site 26, which was a little too close to other rowdier sites, and one night at 39, which was beautiful and secluded. If you're thinking about camping here but don't have a boat, rent a canoe! It's a nice way to get out to the islands and work up a sweat so you're ready to swim by the time you get to your site. Some words of advice: make sure you text anyone you need to while you're in Speculator or Indian Lake because if you need to get a hold of someone while you're camping you have to row back to shore, which could take hours if your site is further up the lake, then drive into town to get service; bring a roll of toilet paper with you if you don't want to use the cheapo single ply the whole time you're there; and lastly, really look at the map to make sure you know what you're getting into in terms of the trek out to your site! 32 is far enough that it feels remote but not so far you can't canoe there. Much further north and you're looking at hours of paddling. All in all a great spot to get away.

When I booked out vacation for the 4th of July, I selected our dates of arrival n departure, the website clearly has a big blue button that says availability ends on july 9 2025, if I speak English correctly that means it's available only until the 9. I clicked on the big blue button takes me to the middle of the next page where it says book now, I clicked book now and the very next page just asks for your payment information, what I did not know was that the website changed the dates to 07/06 instead of check in 07/04 like I entered, I received the confirmation email with the wrong date so I called them immediately and Mary who answered the phone said sorry too bad no refunds on holidays! I tried to explain to her and she wasn't caring one bit about it, gaslighting me to the best of her ability. She then said well I can change the site for it I ended up having to pay more money for an RV site cuz was the only thing available besides a plain site without W&E like I had already paid for. Then I went to look some of the reviews and I saw a picture and the RV site is gravel, she never mentioned that to me I asked her how am I going to put a tent on top of gravel??'
