There are two loops, one with yellow trail markers that is about a mile long, and one with blue trail markers that is about 5 1/2 miles long. The trails are very clearly marked. We hiked there on a July afternoon and we were the only people there. It was like being in the wilderness, even though we were very close to town. The longer trail goes through the trees, along a stream, and takes you to a serene pond, as well as a look-out point. We saw some beautiful mushrooms, as well as many frogs, toads, and salamanders. Highly recommended for an afternoon hike!

Vermont is gorgeous, and this is one of the best places to camp…read more I recommend one of the sites on the south side of the pond - there are other sites that are right on the shore of the pond but they are more cramped. we stayed at Aspen and it was very spacious, complete with a large lean-to which proved very important during the wild summer thunderstorm. you can buy ice and firewood at the ranger station and rent boats to paddle around the pond. There is a strict Quiet Rule in effect after 10 pm, guaranteeing a good nights sleep. There is a 5 mile, well-marked trail from the campsite leading to nearby Lake Bomoseen. if the park staff had refilled the soap dispenser in the bathroom, it would have really been a 5 star camping experience.

First time to half moon state park, but certainly not my first to Vermont state parks…read more My mom and I went to half moon for our annual girls weekend. We got a nice big campsite that had a basic picnic table and a nice fire pit. A little too close to the neighbors and they had a dog that barked at us constantly and once the dog got loose and made a run for us. It was just a pug and not intimidating at all, plus I love animals so it really didn't bother me much. The park itself is very nice, the bathrooms are top notch for a state park, I was very impressed with them! One of the stalls was out of TP the first day that we were there and on the second day the middle stall was out of order. The park is nice and quiet at night despite there being quite a number of people, I think 10 pm is reasonable time to ask people to be quiet past. If anything that's a generous time, 9:30 would have been alright too! I'm happy to hear they reenforce the quiet time rules because some people like a good night sleep and if your coming here to party, go else where. The pond is small but a interesting ecosystem, we rented two kayaks and floated around the lake for about a half hour before heading back in. The Lilies were beautiful! At the beach some people must have been feeding the fish because they were grouped up close to shore and when i stepped into the water, they seemed very interested in me to the point of following me around like little water bound dogs. It was really remarkable and for some reason or another I really enjoyed them. Glen lake is just up black pond road, huge lake with clear, clean water and it would make a really good place to go boating. There is a trail that is probably around 3-4 miles, pretty easy and has a lot of nice views of the lake especially up on the vista which is a slightly more difficult hike up, hiking shoes would be useful here because its a little steep and rocky in places. Very quiet trails, we only saw 2 different groups of people. If you find you need some supplies, go right on to route 30, will go down to lake bomoseen and castleton area. There is a nice general store that actually accepts credit cards! We picked up some cabot american cheese for our burgers and gram crackers for s'mores. Penny candies (5 -25 cents) too, I couldn't resist! All and all it was a wonderful weekend.

The Hudson River Recreation Area (also called Hudson River Special Management Area by NYS DEC and…read moreWarren County Cross Country Ski Trails by Warren County, NY) is a system of hiking and crosscountry ski trails located north of Warrensburg Village, adjacent to Cronin's Golf Course, and within the Lake George Wild Forest. There is no fee. There are about two miles of trails, mostly flat but some easy hills. In the winter, skiers may ski on the golf course that borders the recreation area. The Hudson River is less than a quarter mile from the parking lot and may be level enough for those who are wheelchair-bound, but use your own judgment. This area is within the Hudson River Ice Meadows, so in winter there are great views of the frazil ice that form on the river bank - layers of huge plates of brilliant white ice that form along the shore. In the summer, the river bank has some relatively flat rocks near the water's edge for swimming, sunbathing and picnicking. Snowmobiles, ATVs and other motor vehicles aren't allowed. Dogs are permitted on leashes. In winter, this is a good place to crosscountry ski, but the trails aren't groomed. Also, these are multi-use trails, so you may be skiing in the postholes of hikers. To get there: from the 5-way intersection in the center of Warrensburg Village, go north on Hudson Street. This changes to Golf Course Rd when it leaves the village. At 2.5 miles from the village, look on the left for a parking lot and a sign that says Hudson River Recreation Area. Or set your GPS unit to 538 Golf Course Rd, Warrensburg, NY or (43.5159, -73.8113).

Sighhhh...we wanted to love this place! Glamping sounded like so much fun! But, this did not meet…read moreour expectations of glamping and what we thought it would be, especially for the price. We are campers. We camp in the woods, on the islands of Lake George, way up north in the Adirondacks, etc. but thought this might be a different, fun, and easy way to glamp! The website and the maps provided are very deceiving. We picked a spot "along the River" because on the map, it shows the sites on the river. However, you cannot see or hear the River from the "riverside" tents. The map also isn't to scale. According to the map, the sites are spread out, but in reality, they are right on top of each other. Anyhow, it's pretty much just a big field with no trees or shade with a ton of tents plopped on it. On a hot day, there is no escape from the heat. The tents get so hot! The staff is nice and they keep the place very clean. There is a fire pit, picnic table with cover, trash can, and zero gravity chairs at each tent. The bed was comfortable! The reason I purchased this different type of camping package was because there was a Groupon. I can assure you, that even for the discounted price of $315 for two nights, it is not worth the experience. I feel like they have the potential to offer more, for less. Kayaks should not cost money to rent for people staying on the premises! They should plant some trees or some sort of barrier for the tents that are directly next to the road, etc. We will not be returning to Adirondack Safari.
