I am never going to trust anyone else but Laicale Salon. I have been going here for over 3 years. And I always request for Takako. I have really thick hair and she takes the time to make it look gorgeous. The cut and the blow out/curling iron finishes are amazing. Takako is my go to here after being recommended by my boss. 4 years ago, I told my boss her hair cut looks amazing and [expensive!] and she told me to go check out this place. I have never been happier. Just make sure to book at least a week prior to your requested date.. they fill up pretty quickly. I wanted to come in today, if not I was going to come this Saturday but she's all booked. I'll try to schedule something pretty soon. Tip your shampoo guys well along with your hairdressers! This is my second time going to this salon with stylist Faisal. He is fantastic! I was completely satisfied the first time I went when I was introduced to Faisal through a friend. After that haircut, I decided to go to someone closer to home, and was utterly disappointed, a few times I cried in the car after the haircut. My hair finally grew out and just went to Faisal yesterday and got a fantastic cut! I've received many compliments and I am all smiles. I brought in a picture of the style I was looking for, and he discussed with me my options for the type of hair I have and the way my hair falls. He made great suggestions. Like many others, I also LOVE this salon. I have very very thick and long Asian hair, and this is the only salon that's ever been able to handle it. Every place I've been to in my life, people have always remarked on how thick my hair is; it's common for the stylist to say "I've never dealt with such thick hair!" As a result, my haircuts have never really been fabulous and many a time, I've asked for a few inches trimmed and instead got almost a foot of hair removed. That being said, LAICALE is literally the only salon I've ever returned to! Because it's the only place that gave me a stylist that did exactly what I asked for. And I've gone back several times now and she has kept me happy every time. Takako is thorough and listens; she doesn't make up her own idea and surprise me (I love surprises but not when it comes to cutting my hair). Every time I come out of this salon, I feel and look great! Other awesome things about this place that impressed me: they have a client profile for you so they remember what kind of hair you have - I think that's super professional and classy. Had an appointment for color & cut 2 weeks ago, after a prior consultation. I explained I wanted a reddish-brown base color and then some lighter high-lights added. I ended up with light brown hair and some miniscule highlights. My hair appears to be all one color. The cut was supposed to be like a 60's shag. Not at all what it turned out to be. This cut ended up to be bangs and hair that was flipped back @ the ends. I find it difficult to manage. I am up too early in the A.M. to have to start playing with my hair for it to look O.K. I was disappointed after the rave review the stylists and salon received. The staff was polite and the salon very clean. I had an 11:00 A.M. appointment, arrived early but had to wait outside a locked salon until they decided to open the door. it was chilly that morning. I have been a client of Senior Stylist, Kevyn Bridgeman, for nearly eight years. He is a gifted stylist, who will transform your hair from your first visit. He always listens to his clients' concerns and desires and will exceed your expectations. He is also extremely kind and genuinely wants his customers to love their style or cut. There was an extended period of time that I was unable to see Kevyn on a regular basis. I would refrain from seeing other stylists and coordinate my trips to NY with salon visits with Kevyn. I am pleased to say that I always thoroughly enjoy my experience at Laicale. The customer service from the time I enter the salon, to the time I leave is excellent. Honestly, I have come to expect poor or adequate service from most businesses, but the staff at Laicale are very professional, attentive warm and friendly. I never would have started coming to Laicale had it not been for my friend's recommendation. I had passed by the salon many times before, but felt that the salon was a bit cold in appearance and a little intimidating. Emiliano is great. I really like the way he cuts my hair. He is the most attentive stylist that I have ever been to. He is constantly brushing the cut hairs off of me, he is very detailed, professional and always on time. The shampoo massages are one of my favorite parts as well. I also really like the type of music that is played in the salon. Although you would not find any of that music in my personal library, I feel it is perfect for the salon's décor and lends an edgy vibe to the atmosphere. My only complaint is that I hate the hand dryers in the restroom, but at the same time, I do understand the need to reduce waste and expense. read more

I've been going to Laicale for almost a year now, and I'll never go anywhere else for my cut and color. Every Bergdorf Blonde needs to come here!!! Robert worked a miracle when I first walked in with a patchy dye-job and embarrassingly lifeless hair. He is THE man if you, like me, have baby-fine blonde hair... he'll give you the most gorgeous color you've ever seen, super-subtle face-defining highlights, and a cut that actually creates the illusion of swingy, thick hair. Watching him work is fascinating, since he's super meticulous and you can tell he knows what he's doing. He may look serious, but he's really a sweetie :) As for the salon itself, everyone who works there always looks incredibly hip, and the music the play is always weird ...but cool. They always have tea or coffee on hand, and the biggest spread of magazines I've ever seen, always the newest issues, of course. Alex, who did my shampoo, gives awesome scalp massages.... I write this stellar review with a perfect score to Laicale. Fabrizio is my stylist, who cuts my fine hair to perfection. I always tell him that I leave the salon with more hair than when I came in. Somehow he is able to cut the right amount of layers to make it look and feel fuller / healthier. Simone is my colorist, and recently has been performing her Bayalage magic... making my hair look brighter, happier, healthier... She gives my naturally limp, lifeless, mousy hair a makeover every time, and I leave the salon feeling like a movie star... I cannot recommend this salon enough. If you read my previous reviews on other hairstylist, one which isn't on Yelp anymore especially because the Unfade Hair Studio refunded me to take it off Yelp, you will know my frustrations with previous experiences. Well I have finally found someone who understands. Nacar from Laicale is a true artist. She spent close to 5 hours meticulously painting my hair with both blonde and a darker color so that I could start to achieve my goal of incorporating my gray hair into my highlighted head. After that she did a haircut that has been my dream cut for a few years now. When other hairdressers say you can't Nacar says you can. For example, she cut the underside of my hair short without shaving it. Something Grant from Fox and Jane Salon said was impossible. She said there was no reason to do a base color on my roots to bring it to the same color as the rest of my head. Instead she glossed the roots to a color that will allow my gray's to grow in and blend seamlessly with the rest of my hair so that eventually I can just maintain a few highlights instead of a full head of base color that resulted from many attempts at balayage by stylists who didn't know what they were doing. Nacar gets it. She takes time to listen to her clients and understand their needs. She offers up realistic solutions. She delivers on all fronts. I always knew this wasn't a pipe dream I had. I say "experience" because from the time I walked in their door until my service was finished, every team member that I came in contact with was so professional and I felt they truly cared about my hair needs. Simone took the time with a thorough consultation to find out about my hair and gave me the best haircut that I have ever had! Michael shampooed and conditioned my hair...that was an experience in itself...he was awesome!! This is the only place I've trusted to get my hair cut in 7 years. I am pretty low maintenance w my hair - no color ever and get a basic cut every 10 months - but I have to say my cut is always so good , perfect for my face and exactly what I ask for. I always see Fabrizio and love him! He does great layers and knows exactly how short to make the front to make sure it's still long enough bc i am super super particular. I always get compliments the few days after my cut. Sure it's pricey for a wash and cut but I would prefer the splurge for the great service - awesome head massage during wash, tea and water offered while sitting - and to not have to worry about my head being butchered. read more

I have never written a review here on Yelp but after having my hair cut by Fabrizio the owner over the weekend - I felt compelled to write my first review in hopes of helping other Yelpers. In the middle of the haircut I asked Fabrizio to stop for a moment so that we can assess how the haircut was going. I felt that he was going a little too short on one section of my hair. He put down his tools and walked away. He never came back to finish the cut. I went up to him to ask him what happened and if he was going to continue. He folded his arms in front of his chest and looked away. He would not look me in the eye. He would not engage or work it out. I thought maybe he didn't want to talk in the middle of the salon where everyone could listen. I asked him to step aside and talk about it. He refused. Never seen anything like it before. He said something about cutting hair for over 30 years. I found his response to be arrogant. I tried one more time to try and work it with him and he refused still. His behavior was bizarre, unprofessional, reckless, and immature. After I read the other review I realized that there were other Yelpers who had similar experiences with him. Needless to say...everyone else in the salon seemed very nice especially the manager which is why I am giving them one star. I asked her to try and find someone else to finish the cut. But I doubt that I will ever hear from them again. To all the Yelpers out there...just know that you are taking your chances with Fabrizio. And if you are not happy he will not do anything to fix it. NOTHING. There are a lot of salons in NYC. I would rather go someplace where they treat the clients with more respect. read more

I still remember that he was an infant asleep in his carriage when a manager came over to me and told me they didn't allow babies in the salon. The haircuts I have received there have been nothing short of life changing experiences! I recently just cut my blonde hair short there a couple of weeks ago and all of my coworkers (even people I never talk to) have stopped to tell me how amazing it is. Awesome haircut but terrible experience otherwise. Laicale, and Faisal in particular, had come recommended to me by a couple of friends, but I will not be joining them in recommending this salon. First I was kept waiting for 40 minutes because Faisal's last appointment was running over. When I arrived, I was told it would just be a few minutes. After he barely apologized, I got into the chair and figured it would be better from here on. False. The comb caught and yanked on my earring - hard enough that part of it fell off. I had to go buy another earring to replace it so the hole wouldn't close up. I received no apology. After being kept waiting 40 minutes for such an expensive haircut, I closed the book on Laicale. It's a shame, because the vibe is relaxing and the scalp massage I received from the woman who shampooed me was divine. read more

I will never forget the day that my hip, stylish Italian hairstylist at Laicale gave me a MULLET and ruined my look for the entire next 2 years. I was 18 years old, newly fresh in the city from a small suburban town in Virginia and thought Laicale was the hottest salon I'd ever laid my eyes upon. I requested a sexy Britney Spears-esque cut, with long layers. She proceeded to chop my hair off, with the top layer being 3 inches long and then the bottom layers were normal length. I cried for about 2 days before I returned to the salon for an explanation. All she said was, "this is the 'city' look. All the girls love it". No refund, no offer to add extensions. I suffered for two years while this thing grew out. Thankfully, I met a friend who worked at Ted Gibson. One of their stylists (who has since left the salon) had a special technique of thinning out hair with a razor blade, so it softened up this horrid look and made it bearable for the next year or so. I've been traumatized by haircuts ever since. read more

I made an appointment here after reading some great online reviews, and I am so sorry about it! I feel bad naming the stylist, so I shan't, but I'll just say he cut my hair EXACTLY how I told him NOT to. I have very thick hair, and if layers (especially in the back) are cut too short my hair looks like a mushroom. It puffs out and gets big. I told him this, and he did everything I didn't want. Cut way too much off in the back, and afterward I asked him to take more off in the front and he said no, that it wouldn't look right. So now I'm going to have to let half my hair grow out, but go to another stylist to get the front trimmed up. Very very very disappointed, and I would advise against trying out this salon even after being tempted by the good reviews. read more

ABSOLUTELY THE MOST TRAUMATIZING HAIR EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. I was a patron of Laicale for years until the most horrific incident in which my hair was extremely over-processed and physically fell out in chunks in the chair like someone who just had chemotherapy. When I started coming to Laicale, I saw Sara, but she traveled frequently and I eventually began seeing another stylist who had more availability. I came to see him one day for ombre color/balayage which was to be applied naturally to my hair. I wasn't going platinum blonde or anything, just some lighter brown accents to my medium brown hair. I hadn't dyed my hair in over a year and it was long and extremely healthy with a lot of virgin growth. For whatever reason, the color processed extremely unevenly and the stylist asked if I could come in the following day to do a second process. This seemed like a short time interval to do more than one bleach processing, but I trusted my stylist. I asked him repeatedly if this would be damaging to my hair and he assured me it would not. I offered to wait if there was any risk to my hair but he insisted and continued to reassure me. When I came in the next day, he was multitasking with another client and left me in the chair with bleach on my head for so long that it burned horribly and felt like knives were stabbing through my scalp. I had to come get him to ask if the bleach had been left on too long and I knew something was wrong when he began removing the foils and massive chunks of my hair (inch sections) were just breaking off. I tried to remain calm but I was panicking, as was the stylist who was literally shaking, drenched in sweat, and apologizing. He tried to tell me the damage could be reversed but I knew it was too late. The cuticle had been completely stripped from my hair, the texture of my hair felt like stringy stretchy gum, and my hair was SO irreparably damaged it could not even be dried with a blow dryer. I left crying with wet hair that just kept falling out as I made my way home. I know hair is a superficial thing, but this is every woman's worst hair nightmare. As I walked out, I saw everyone who was left in the salon looking equally as horrified. Laicale eventually did refund my money, but I had to call 3 times to even get a callback from the receptionist, Anja. No one was very compassionate or understanding about what happened and tried to downplay it. The incident sent me into a pit of horrible depression where I didn't even want to leave my house or be seen in public. A week or so later, Sara cut my hair into an extremely short bob which was the only option besides shaving my head. The color remained very uneven and blotchy, but I was too scared to apply any additional chemical products to. it. It took about two years of growing until I could style my hair in a way that looked good again and actually get a brush through it. Everyone who has cut my hair since then has been shocked that my residual color was applied by a professional and I just lived with it because what other choice did I have. Years later, I am still absolutely appalled that this happened at a high end salon and absolutely appalled at the lack of compassion that was shown after this horrible mistake. I've wanted to write this review for a long. time, but genuinely had PTSD from it and finally feel like I have recovered. EXPENSIVE SERVICES DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE HAPPY ENDINGS PEOPLE. read more

Fabrizio cut 4 inches off my hair when I asked for one; he gave me bangs without my asking. When I said I hadn't asked for bangs in, he began to yell at me and usher me out of the salon, shouting for me to never come back. I had been a loyal client for years, but had never gone to him. I'd been going to an East Village salon for awhile but lately, after being pretty great for awhile, it hadn't been working for my hair. I went back to Laicale after having been there some years back and chose Sara based on Yelp reviews. I brought a photo because I was getting worried that no one was going to 'get' my hair without some suggestion. Sara is very sweet mannered, kind, astute, a bit low key. She gave me a great cut! In fact, I wonder what she would have done without the photo. The 80s / 90s industrial vibe of the salon isn't my favorite thing and the music is a little loud so the salon itself could use some color and softening. But as far as getting a good hair cut, I give it high marks. read more

I needed a change and was wearing the same hair style for 3 years. I have a hard time trusting hair dresser. Marissa is well known by many of my friends for color and cutting hair and I wanted a mix between midnight and electric blue. I spend at least $500 dollars on virgin hair and could not afford to replace my extensions right away if they got ruined. Laicale is so-so thus far. Though to be fair to them, I've only had 2 haircuts by one stylist (Kevyn). He does a really good job with the top but doesn't know what to do with the sides or my neckline. I decided to give this place one more try and get my hair styled by the owner, Fabrizio. He actually takes your lifestyle into account... he doesn't push you to go short just so you come in more often or try to color your hair something that requires tons of upkeep. My 2 daughters and I have been clients of Takako at Laicale for many years. I am there almost every 3 weeks. I am completely happy with her abilities. I always leave there satisfied that my color and cut are perfect. She maintains my color so that it always looks it's best not just after big appointments. I really like that she does both my color and cut. The salon is also a professional environment. The people in general are pleasant and welcoming which makes for good service.
