Cheaper alternative to Tayyabs in Whitechapel. Decor isn't that great for eat-in. They're next-door branch is tidier.

Absolutely loved Tayyabs!…read more The one thing I knew I needed when visiting London was Indian food and I'm so happy I found this restaurant. Found this restaurant on Yelp after seeing such great reviews and I wasn't disappointed! At first, I was nervous my friend and I wouldn't get a table due to how busy the restaurant was but since we were only two people, we had no issue getting a table. Seating is tight! You are almost arm to arm with the individuals sitting around you which I actually found to be a great experience. My friend and I ended up striking conversation with the people next to us which led to a fun dining experience. Service was quick! We ordered food and it came out quickly and all waiters were super attentive. In terms of food, everything was absolutely delicious and portion sizes were huge! First we ordered the lamb chops and the samosas which were absolutely amazing. We then ordered the chicken and lamb dishes with the naan which completely filled us. I can't wait to come back and I will absolutely be dreaming about this restaurant until I come back!

The tandoori items come out sizzling on a hot plate marinated to perfection. They also bring you some complimentary pappadum and salad. There are three sauces on each table (yogurt, a sweet hot sauce, and a tamarind? Sauce. A pitcher of water is also there for your convenience which I love. All the items are very reasonably priced. On my way out I noticed some people bringing in beer so maybe BYOB? I would definitely come back here. Seems like it gets busy so plan accordingly.

So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

My husband thought the food was hotter than he would have liked but adding yoghurt raita to our order helped him with the heat. We tried the kheer and kulfi and loved them both. He was so popular that he eventually developed a fixed premises outlet and expanded over Pakistan, Dubai and now the U.K. My visit however left me feeling that I need to get out to the real Karachi joint if im gonna be wowed! I went on Saturaday for lunch and we were the only other table at the place. so we ordered a feast and waited and waited until rather bewilderingly all the food arrived at once starters and mains. i didnt appreciate this since i was starving and isnt it the norm to ask if you want everything brought to the table together? i thought this was not on for a smart looking restaurant. As we know Asian food can get a bit messy and well i got messy then realised that we didnt even have serviettes at our place settings and then the staff were not on hand to tell them of their oversight adding further rage to my experience. The thing is i would usually excuse such things but not when youre paying the price they charge. The only attentive service we got was when the manager came over to charge us - man he was so laying on the charm, but sorry pal you lost my custom as soon as the food arrived. I could see from the business card bowl on the counter that this is City folk lunch spot and thats all, where the food gets churned outta the kitchen unloved by its makers. The food was ok nothing to write home about, we asked for prathas and instead we got purries, by this point i was way to hungary to point this out and since it was half in my belly i continued shoving the rest in.

It is a little blander than its American edition but nevertheless a pleasure to scarf down one's gullet hole. :) They have amazingly reasonable deals. Only 6 quid for a kind of chicken curry + rice + veggies + a can of soda! Luckily, we went in just as the lunch crowd rushed in behind us. This place seems to be a quick lunch stop for a wide range of people (i.e., men in suits, biker chicks, foreigners like me, locals (I'm guessing), etc.) My one regret is that I didn't buy another meal to takeaway (American: takeout). I really should have. Talking about regrets, I actually have one more: I forgot to take a picture of the food and realized I should have halfway through the meal. Oops...

It seems to sell all manner of fast food, but that's not what I was there for. I needed a curry fix and this place seemed to be the cheapest on Brick Lane. It is all formica table tops, fixed chairs and bright lights. It would have had the atmosphere of a grubby yet sterile take-away, except that it was packed with locals and a few suits. I had some truly great pilau rice (there is a difference), a tongue-tastically flavoursom saag chicken and a tarka dahl. If I don't have tarka dahl every so often, I become morose and feel not only physically hollow but a little emotionally bereft. This dahl here was not inspirational, not the sort of dahl to order as a last meal, nor sell a kidney for, it wasn't mouth-orgasmic, but it was OK and the rice and saag chicken made up for it. At just a shade over a fiver, this place may see my bot on one of their chairs again very soon. I noticed a few locals having lamb biriani with what looked like rather crunchy and pleasant fried chicken, but I can't vouch for it. I accidentally had a KFC once, it was the second worst thing I have ever put in my mouth.
