The drive up was sketchy and I would definitely recommend taking an AWD vehicle with chains! The steepness and switchbacks on the way up are no joke! A major con is there's not a lot of sitting room at the top of the lifts so I had to sit on the boxes and rails in the terrain park anytime I got bored (that's where they lost a star). However, this had minimal impact on my day since my CLEW bindings kept me moving with almost no wasted time strapping in! For the first year of opening I'd say this resort has a lot of promise and the future is looking bright! Can't wait to see how it evolves!

Too many snowboarders and not enough skiers. Could have also used about a foot or two of more snow.

Mt Waterman is truly the greatest, local ski resort in the L.A.area. One hour from Burbank…read more "Snow from heavens, not from hoses" is their slogan and its exactly that. They do not blow snow. So the resort relies solely on Mother Nature! This year has been pretty exceptional. Open on weekends only, unless otherwise reported on their snow phone and/or website or Facebook page. There are 3 chairlifts. The Face of the mountain is experts only and can be closed if deemed unsafe (ice is generally the main culprit). The other two lifts are located at the top back of the mountain and have easy to intermediate runs. The runs tend to be a lot shorter in the back, but bonus... this place is never too packed. From what others have said, this mountain is better for skiers, and you'll see a good amount of them here. But snowboarders do come here too. As well as day hikers or those just looking to sit by a roaring fire on the top of a snow capped mountain. Lift tickets are $50 all day (ski/snowboard). $40 half day, after noon. $20 non ski user. They also offer season passes. Parking lot can fill up fast on weekend days, but there are several small lots just up and down the road. I always recommend having an ADVENTURE PASS , but it is not required in their lots. But the sheriff's will have your car towed if you park over the white lines, so keep that in mind...it's a long way to any tow yard!

This review is specifically in regards to snow sport season…read more When Mt. Waterman (only 30-miles up the ACH) opens, that's a very special occasion because they really only get to open for skiing once every 3 to 5 years because of a wide variety of factors; they do not make any snow and rely fully on mother nature, the winter can be very harsh on the mountain roads, which cuts them off a lot of times, one year a forest fire took out their phone lines, etc etc etc... it's always something. Therefore, you can't plan to go to Mt. Waterman, you just have to be ready to run when they do open! This resort may not share the polish of the other local resorts, but the entire staff is a class act and they're all just ON IT when it comes time to opening with very little notice. The people who come out are all so appreciate of the staff and you can hear everyone telling the staff thank you, etc all day, as well as chatter amongst themselves. People are generally very, very happy to be there and don't worry about the minor inconveniences that they might bitch about at the other resorts. Everyone has to get there and enjoyment while they're there because you really never know when you might be there again. The chairs are older and slower, but extremely well maintained and they get you up the slopes! Come and enjoy it anytime you can. As far as summer, the hiking trails and views are awesome and they have summer recreational sports as well, but winter is the special time to visit.

I'm aware of the…read moreissues, and will discuss the main issue for me, but I am always rooting for this place to come into some kind of hey-day. First, in the hot summer, the notch could really be a nice cool escape, except that the chairlift up is so expensive. I know they must do some calculation of what they need to take in to keep operating, but I also know that I would go there, pay for the chair lift, and eat at the notch much more if the lift tickets were $15 or lower, rather than $25 and up even with a coupon. And I'm just one person. This seems prohibitively high for many families. At $15 or lower (plus my seasonal park pass) and whatever lunch and drinks cost, I'd go there (and bring all my visitors) at least once a month. As it is, I go at least once a month in the spring and fall hiking seasons and don't go in the summer much at all. However, I do encourage families for a once in a while splurge to take the chair lift up with the kids, hike around, and have lunch at the notch. It's a great experience! I did the tubbing once long ago and although I don't think it's worth it for adults, I do think it would be fun for kids. I've never skied there, so I can't speak to that feature. All that being said, I love this place. I love taking the chair lifts up the hill and looking out on the scenery. I love hiking from the notch, particularly up Telegraph. I love having a drink with lunch or early dinner at the Notch. It's really fun to see a band there in the evenings. I hope through the years this place thrives.

Fast friendly service to get the rental and they showed us how to put the snowboard on. We still get a seat at the cafetaria. Cool. Restrooms are okay. We kept going in and out of the store buying stuff coz its our retail therapy and we wanted to get some memorabilias. We bought total of 2 snow jackets (Dankin, Roxi), 1 Mt High sweater, 2 goggles, 4 face neck covers , 6 keychains. There were 4 employees, 2 women, 2 men. 1 of the men was a total d**k. When I bought the first pair of goggle the other male staff helped me find a different style for my son for the same price range. The second time I went back to get the second pair of goggle for my daughter, it was the other male staff who was super inpatient kept saying "theres no other one for her size," upset body language when I asked to cut the tag off and yelled "I can help the next one" before I was even done paying. Geez. Why you worked there I wouldnt even know. This passive aggressive poor customer service was a definite minus 2 stars. When I went to the ski patrol, inside was warmed and friendly stuff. I asked for my daughter to be helped going down the hill and they helped her with a sled. This was the solid 5 stars. Closer to 230 pm lots of drunk young men even fell on the ground in the cafetaria with his group laughing cursing obnoxiously to each other. No staff said nothing. Restrooms were absolutely disgusting at this point. It was snow storm. We were headed out by 3 pm and my Sienna, in the handicap parking space, was stuck. We parked in the $30 lot. The snow truck plowing all the snow in front of my car, and someone else parked behind my car. It was actively snow storming, and my son wanted to borrow shovel, and they took my phone as a guarantee we will returned the shovel. I saw other cars also struggling . My kids pushed the car and finally we were able to get out. Conclusion, dont go in snow storm, and I would stand up to that annoying staff in the store and told him off.

I don't have any scientific basis for this, but it feels like this park has a few more obstacles or is more friendly to some of the more seasoned folks that come through. At the base they even rent full suspension bikes that are quite capable and come with helmets and protective body armor. The trails are fairly well maintained and feature berms and jumps. My favorite trail was Blue Steel, which is a blue trail. The top section was the smoothest of all the trails I tried and there are a variety of berms and jumps that make it a lot of fun. If you're going fairly fast, one ride up the lift and trip down will be around 3 miles of riding and take about 30 minutes. First timers will be fine staying on the green trail Going Green all day. Those who have mountain biked before and are comfortable on bikes can probably progress to blue trails in the same day. Watch some YouTube tutorials on jumping as this can contribute a lot to your enjoyment and the technique for full suspension bikes is fairly specific but can be figured out in the same day.

Before heading home, we enjoyed ice cream cups from the gift shop. I was also happy that the bathrooms (by the zip lines) were very clean. I will also add that we visited on a Friday in mid-July, and it was not crowded at all.
