I find the classes to be both challenging and fun-often a difficult mix to find. The instructors are knowledgeable and are great at successfully running classes with a range of fitness levels. They are careful to make sure they are aware of any health concerns and are able to offer suitable modifications to just about every exercise. They keep the workouts different enough that you dont get bored but there is enough routine you can feel where you've made improvements. I like that they create an environment that is more encouraging than competitive-I've been to other bootcamps where you are made to feel bad if your fitness level isn't yet what some of the others in the class are at. I recently decided to become a full fledged customer and I am impressed with how quickly they responded to my questions about schedule and price. I don't live overly close to where they hold classes but to me they are totally worth the drive. Oh and you'll see the results too! I think they offer some other classes to like Bridal bootcamp and mom & baby related classes.

PRICE: $15/hour, $11/hour for students FACILITY/WHAT THEY OFFER: Squash, racquetball and wallyball courts. Bring a water bottle; there is an old school water fountain, not the fancy dispenser like the one at Rally Pointe. PERKS: One of the few squash/racquetball facilities in North/Central Calgary, clean and newly renovated change rooms MY EXPERIENCE: This place is smack off Edmonton Trail beside the convenience store. The building is old and the parking can be limited at times. Thankfully there's street parking. The small doors to the courts make you feel like you're in Alice in Wonderland. They're half the size of a human being and if you're very tall, you might bump your head getting through. The courts themselves serve their purpose although they can get uncomfortably cold in the winter. The receptionists are usually university students who study while watching the front desk (I don't mind this.) The staff in general are friendly, but can be unprofessional. The first time I went, I reserved a wallyball court for 6:00 pm. They held a neighbourhood flea market earlier that day and stored their merchandise in the halls and the courts. When the receptionist took us to our court, she was confused when she saw it was full of junk (bed frames, lamps, tables) from the flea market. She asked an older lady, who spoke with a heavy Russian accent, if she could move the items and the lady said no. The receptionist took down the net for Wallyball, and moved it to the adjacent court while arguing with the older lady in Russian, as if they were a mother and daughter having a fight. It was an awkward situation to be in, and unprofessional of them to argue in front of us and assign us a court that wasn't ready. Subsequent visits were better, but you can still feel the unprofessionalism. When I called to book a court (shortly after they opened) the receptionist told me she'd have to call me back because she "got in a little late". Um, shouldn't you be on time to your job? She hastily jotted my contact information down (but not my name) and returned my call half an hour later. It was awkward when she called and didn't know how to address me. Despite the unprofessionalism, the price and location of Trail Courts makes it worth your time and money.

That style of yoga works for some, but not all. I also love the instructors, they are fantastic!! (my favorite part of the classes) A little bit hard to find the first time, (all the way up the stairs through a fire door, and down at the end of the hall) but so worth it. I get a bliss that lasts for at least a few hours after any class, and for anyone that knows me, knows that takes a lot!!

TL;DR: This place is awesome if you get the right instructors, pretty average if you don't…read more I tried out FitRepublic because (a) a friend had been there and said it was a cool spot, (b) my husband works in Bridgeland and I drive past it an awful lot, and (c) they had an introductory special. The special was $39 for 2 weeks of unlimited classes - this includes an intro to AntiGravity, but not to the regular AntiGravity classes. In those two weeks I'm pretty sure must have I set a record for most classes attended. I really did want to try this place out, so I went to 15 different classes (which amounts to just under $3 per class at that intro rate. Go me!) I don't live or work near FitRepublic at all, so my end goal was to see which classes I liked the best, so that I could go to one or two per week after the trial period. It's easy to sign up for classes online, you just purchase your pass and sign up. Then when you get there you sign in and that's that. It's much like other class-based fitness places in that sense. I ended up taking Booty Barre, Rowing, Biker Barre, Hard Knocks (kickboxing), TRX, TRX Strength Circuit, Rhythm Ride, and SPIN Express. I took many of these twice with different instructors, when possible, to try and get the full effect. The classes are mostly awesome and motivating. I am an active person, but I'm also not a small person, and can easily be intimidated by places where everyone looks like they could be on the cover of Shape. And believe me, I was frequently the chubbiest girl in the class at FitRepublic. But the motivating, welcoming nature of the gym made me feel comfortable almost all of the time. There was one class where I clearly could not keep up, and felt more intimidation than motivation (I won't say which class or which instructor, but I cried after, which was a bummer), but this was one time out of fifteen. And when I went to that same class taught by a different instructor I had a really awesome experience, so I wouldn't begrudge FitRepublic a good review for that isolated incident. My two-week trial is almost up, and after it's done I think I'll keep going to one or two classes per week, as I had intended to. Trial=success! If you're interested, I would highly recommend getting the two-week trial and trying out as many of the classes as you can. Get a feel for which classes and which instructors you like, and judge for yourself.

It felt repetitive and boring, with an instructor walking around and announcing how much time we had left. Also, since she was observing us, I would expect her to correct my form. Instead, I've woken up with bruises on my forearms from the very technical kettlebell exercises that weren't properly explained. The studio in itself was cute and cozy, and the facilities were well-stocked and inviting. The class, however, could have been better.

During Covid I started homeschooling my kids. I quickly stopped making fitness a priority. I had been wresting with getting back to a gym when management reached out about coming back to try a class. All it took was one class - I forgot how much I loved it! A gal recently asked me why I returned, and I told her that I was now the slowest, weakest, and fattest I've been in years, so I decided to return to the place that I know gets the job done! With hard work, perseverance, and stellar coaching staff, I'm starting to see my body transform. This place brings out my inner athlete and my competitive side, but it's not about comparing myself to others - every time I look in the mirror it's me against me. Great gym on 14th Street near Kensington…read more I've been a member since the beginning and I've tried some classes and personal training sessions. The classes are good, especially pilates! I love my trainer Wendy... she's a machine! The equipment is great, and machines feel high end. Plus, from what I have seen so far, there is a minimal amount of douchy gym rats there! ;) Very nice change rooms and a couple of large showers. I guess the only down side is the size of the classroom, which limits the number of people who can take the classes. I see that as a good thing, because I prefer smaller classes, but it may get crowded.

The best part is the recovery side, I think of it as napping while getting healthy. The Lymph massage, and the Red Light Bed are the best. Lots of compliments on my skin, and improved posture. And I can now arm wrestle my sister and win. I've struggled with my weight most of my life, and while not a quick fix, this is the first fitness place I've been able to, and want to, consistently attend. Let me be crystal clear: I will make it my life's mission to expose the negligence and entitlement that allowed this to happen. What was supposed to heal me has instead damaged my health further, all because of inadequate protocols and the absence of trained health professionals. The manager at the Calgary Brookfield location is a racist, unprofessional individual who clearly operates above the law with zero accountability. Her ignorance of legal requirements and blatant personal biases are inexcusable.
