I had taken a bootcamp class with them last year summer…read more The reason I chose to enroll in their classes is a bit unusual: marketing. Their logo of an adorable little chick (check out the business photo I uploaded!) along with their apt name 'Fit Chicks' was just too good. I had a hearty laugh at their marketing and enrolled and showed up to class. My trainer was Allison Lane, who was the most hilarious woman ever. (I later found out she is friends with Carrie P too!) Anyway, Allison was extremely inspirational because she is a breast cancer survivor, but you would never be able to tell. She lives every day with zest, humour and energy. She had constant jokes all throughout the classes and made us all laugh while we struggled through burpees, squats and stair-climbing. In the end I had measurable results, albeit small. But heck, I only had myself to blame for that, insisting on being a couch potato every day that I WASNT in bootcamp! I highly recommend Fit Chicks! They have a fun, playful approach to training, while giving you results!

You can check if there's one near you by going to fitchicks.ca. Anyway, the trainers and positive atmosphere keep you coming back twice a week even though the workout kicks your butt! It's an amazing, healthy atmosphere where you can work at your level and are never pushed like other boot camps to the point where you risk injury. The results are impossible to deny and they also provide you with amazing tools - including a 40 page handbook about health, nutrition, and extra workouts for you to do at home. I haven't had a single problem with the company and they've even gone out of their way to be extra accommodating with special requests I've had. I can't say enough good things and I would highly recommend them to any woman, any age looking for a healthy and fun workout.

This place is amazing. After trying many other types of traditional gyms, I finally found this one…read more I have been training here fro about 3 months now going 4-5 times a week. Each class is different, no matter which instructor that go and see. After just 3 months of training I ran the spartan race for the second time. And this year I was able to beat my previous time by 50 whole minutes. This place has completely changed my outlook on working out. Where it used be a task to go to the gym, now I find I am excited to go to it. And days that I don't go I feel I would rather be there. I would suggest this place to anyone that is looking for a change in their workout routine. Or are just starting out and looking for a great place to get a good workout.

There is a serious need for places like this for OCR racers to train year round. When I heard about…read moreit I was excited for my next trip south to check it out! When registering I went to their website and tried to sign in but it wasn't working. So I called and left a message about it. I got a call back the next day from Sandra saying I could register over the phone. They were in the middle of changing their booking service over to the Mindbody system at the time. Registering with the app is super easy now. I find it a little pricey at $30 for drop in tho. The place is in the middle of an industrial area but it was well marked and I was able to find it in the dark just fine. When arriving I was greeted right away by Jesse who was teaching the class. They have a seating area to chill and chat. The change room area was a little rough around the edges. It's a unisex area with box cubbies for your things, no lockers. the change rooms are individual rooms and two unisex washrooms with showers. Just bring your own towel and soaps. The gym itself is an adult playground. It's hard to find something they haven't thought of. All of your universal obstacles are built that you'll find in most races. There's a turf area as well and a few rowing machines. For the class we did a quick warm up on the rowing machines and then of course, burpees. After that there was what Jesse called "12 days of Christmas" workout written on the board. 12 different exercises to get through while working your way back through the ones you already did each round. It was great in that it used the whole space so in between you were running and it gave you many attempts at each one to practice and get better. We had a 40 min cap to get through all 12 before cool down. Anything we had questions about he went over and would show techniques otherwise he just let us go at our own pace while offering lots of high fives and encouragement. The course included: 1.rope climb 2. crawls 3. tire flip 4. 4ft wall 5. burpees x5 6. 6 ft wall 7. push ups x7 8. 8 ft wall 9. box jumps x9 10. KB squats x10 11. turf sprint 12. monkey bars It was so much fun and inspired friendly competition with those in the class like a race. Though everyone was so welcoming and encouraging. We offered each other tips and encouragement. It was a great atmosphere. After time was up we did our own cool down. I was able to catch some time to play on a few of the other obstacles and try for the first time while not in an actual race. The others said they class is never the same and changes up so you never get bored and can train to be well rounded in all obstacles. Hopefully they successfully expand and get one of these gyms in Edmonton. I would sign up for a membership right away. If you want to get into OCR or are just one of those people who get bored with conventional workouts this place is literally an adult playground. And for those who race regularly its a great indoor facility to keep your bruises year round!

TL;DR: This place is awesome if you get the right instructors, pretty average if you don't…read more I tried out FitRepublic because (a) a friend had been there and said it was a cool spot, (b) my husband works in Bridgeland and I drive past it an awful lot, and (c) they had an introductory special. The special was $39 for 2 weeks of unlimited classes - this includes an intro to AntiGravity, but not to the regular AntiGravity classes. In those two weeks I'm pretty sure must have I set a record for most classes attended. I really did want to try this place out, so I went to 15 different classes (which amounts to just under $3 per class at that intro rate. Go me!) I don't live or work near FitRepublic at all, so my end goal was to see which classes I liked the best, so that I could go to one or two per week after the trial period. It's easy to sign up for classes online, you just purchase your pass and sign up. Then when you get there you sign in and that's that. It's much like other class-based fitness places in that sense. I ended up taking Booty Barre, Rowing, Biker Barre, Hard Knocks (kickboxing), TRX, TRX Strength Circuit, Rhythm Ride, and SPIN Express. I took many of these twice with different instructors, when possible, to try and get the full effect. The classes are mostly awesome and motivating. I am an active person, but I'm also not a small person, and can easily be intimidated by places where everyone looks like they could be on the cover of Shape. And believe me, I was frequently the chubbiest girl in the class at FitRepublic. But the motivating, welcoming nature of the gym made me feel comfortable almost all of the time. There was one class where I clearly could not keep up, and felt more intimidation than motivation (I won't say which class or which instructor, but I cried after, which was a bummer), but this was one time out of fifteen. And when I went to that same class taught by a different instructor I had a really awesome experience, so I wouldn't begrudge FitRepublic a good review for that isolated incident. My two-week trial is almost up, and after it's done I think I'll keep going to one or two classes per week, as I had intended to. Trial=success! If you're interested, I would highly recommend getting the two-week trial and trying out as many of the classes as you can. Get a feel for which classes and which instructors you like, and judge for yourself.

I find classes where the instructors don't work out with the team minimally motivating. The class I…read moreattended here was one such class. It felt repetitive and boring, with an instructor walking around and announcing how much time we had left. Also, since she was observing us, I would expect her to correct my form. Instead, I've woken up with bruises on my forearms from the very technical kettlebell exercises that weren't properly explained. The studio in itself was cute and cozy, and the facilities were well-stocked and inviting. The class, however, could have been better.
