This isn't about the location(which is beautiful) or the food ( which we've always found to be delicious) but about the ridiculous way things were handled. It was our 15th anniversary and we wanted to dine here. Called and listened to instructions to " call an hour before you want to be seated". They open at 4:00 pm and we called right away... we were hoping for a 6:00 seating. The line was busy, so we kept trying.... for almost 45 minutes ... still busy. We finally got through and were told there was nothing available outside and that there was a waiting list. We asked about inside and were told that there wasn't anything yet so we asked if we could be on the wait list. She said "no, there isn't a wait list yet". So we asked if she could start one? We were told no.... it wasn't time yet, but we can call back at 5:45 and see what it's like. ( it's almost a half hour drive to get there). So we said, " but we'd like to be there at 6:00"... and she said "okay!". After getting absolutely nowhere with her, we drove there only to find out that the dining room was packed and if we were added to the "list", it would be a 1 1/2 hour wait. If she would have started a wait list when we asked her to, all would be well, but instead we walked away in total frustration. read more

Well the best part of the was the location & the Switchback IPA that I waited 15 minutes for. We've been here before and everything was ok , not great but not bad. Location outside on Winni is great. Had reservations for 6, were seated by 6:10. Immediately ordered a App & drinks. Dinner was ordered by 6:45. Two Salmon specials & Fettuccine Alfredo. 7:55 dinner arrived, Salmon specials were tasty but barely warm. The Fettuccine was Horendous to be kind. Flavorous thick pasty crap....and cold so we sent it back to get nuked. Long story lousy meal. Def combo of front & back house. Manager came over at the end to ask how was everything we told her. Funny she said that she had the Fettuccine 2 night earlier and said it didn't have much flavor. She suggested next time to order a protein to add flavor to it. I always love going to Lago! It has a perfect location being right on the lake with an amazing view. It is the perfect place for both a casual dinner or a special occasion. Every time I come the service is always top notch - giving honest recommendations, checking in frequently, and always being kind. I love the atmosphere and music as well and never feel rushed. I feel like this place gets kind of a bad rap? Or perhaps we are just not very picky... went at 6 on a rainy Monday and there was no wait. Cute decor and nice waitstaff. Great playlist. I got the gluten free chicken and Alfredo which was very very good. BF got the chicken parm with housemade pasta which he also loved. We felt the quality + amount was pretty fair for the price. And everything in the Meredith area is expensive!! Only giving four stars because we got the burrata app and weren't thrilled with it. Wasnt bad but wasn't for us. I felt they were trying to do too much with it instead of letting the burrata stand out. All in all great place and would recommend! We love it here. Definitely one of the better places for Italian / American dinner around this area. We've come back a few times. You can call ahead but no reservations. Sometimes you can get a seat or high top near the bar. That's first come first serve. We ordered the chicken Marsala and chicken broccoli ziti and it was soooo delicious. Very tasteful and great portion. We have also had the chicken parm which is also great and the flatbread pizza. Everything is good. For this area, Meredith, New Hampshire, this is a fabulous restaurant. The food is well thought out, the portions are more than reasonable, and the food is delicious. Waiters are well educated to give you a pairing on wine, and the whole atmosphere is very lake-side chill but fun. it's too bad that more of the other local restaurants around town don't step up their game to compete with the Common Man restaurants which are featured throughout the Lakes Region. Don't hesitate to stop in. I don't want to dissuade you from having a full meal, but if you're not too hungry the appetizers will serve you well. The tastes are yummy with lots of different flavors, and the menu is varied with lots of choices. This is a favorite of the locals. read more

Well I have to admit my wife and I have been here several times. We generally go by boat and have always had a decent experience. Bartender Scott has always take. Care of us with great drinks and friendly service. I am not sure what has changed but after our experience last night this place is off our list. My wife and I arrived at 4:00 (when they open) we ordered two drinks and settled in to spend some time talking and relaxing. By 5 we each were finishing our second drink and the bread they offer. Fast forward to 6 we had finished another 2 drinks and the parmigiana spring rolls. My wife ordered dinner and I was going to order some meatballs. She also was going to have another drink but before we could even get the order out we were told management has shut us off because we had 7 drinks in 1 hour. I checked the time 6:08. Now perhaps my math is off but I'm able to could and 4 to 6:00 is 2 hours. My receipt reflected the amount of drinks and it was off by one drink in their favor. Look Common man I get it look out for the well being of your customers and staff but this was not called for as we were just sitting and talking (long over due) yes perhaps we were not ordering the $36 steak and the bill was less then $80 but still I left feeling like I did something wrong and embarrassed. Well take your high class wanna be attitude and shove it where the sun does not shine because there are other options in the area. In todays climate I would think service industries would Will NEVER RETURN TO ANOTHER COMMON MAN! My husband and I just had the BEST dinner here at Lago. We're staying in the hotel above the restaurant for a mid-week escape, and popped down for an early dinner. Our waitress was Heather and she was awesome! Very personable, and knowledgeable. She had a good grasp of the menu, and was able to steer us in the right direction with out dishes. We started with the spaghetti carbonara, which was creamy and totally delicious. It was a little under salted, but I preferred that, as they supplied a fresh little condiment cup of sea salt to our table. This was a very cool move- one I haven't seen before. I had the chicken with the gorgonzola cream sauce and veggies. It was amazing. In retrospect, I definitely should not have had two cream dishes in one meal. The upside is that I had a bunch leftover for lunch tomorrow! :) Hubby had a nicely cooked steak with the tuscan fries (really good spice seasoning on those). Dessert. Oh, dessert! We had (at heather's suggestion) the chocolate ganache. It was intensely dark and rich. It would have been waaayyyy too much had it not been for the smattering of sea salt across the top. Totally delightful. I had seen the recent bad reviews and was a little hesitant to come by, but whatever they had wrong they fixed for tonight at least! Been here several times, especially when staying at Mill Falls.if you stay at one of the hotels/inns then you can receive priority seating. Even though they don't take reservations currently, you can put your name in. Our wait time was minimal less than 10 minutes for our time spot. Apps always delicious. Husband got the mussels and myself their handmade pretzels. Wish I ordered a beer because a bit salty but still very good. Had a mojito ,perfect. then the blackberry crush, very strong drink but tasty if looking for something different to try. Husband ordered short ribs, done perfectly. I had the gnocchi carbanera. It was delicious but the pickled egg on top I did not partake in.Usually would of mixed in if it was a partly cooked yolk...but didn't need it anyway, it was creamy enough. And as is its one of those adds that can definitely do without. Will continue to return while in meridith especially with it being a part of baypoint hotel with its beautiful views there! read more

This restaurant has A LOT to do with when you come, and at what time. The other reviews I feel are quite accurate because on my previous visit I shared a similar experience. Horrible service, and my family are regulars. [ we came on a Saturday, or Friday?] However this time we went on a Tuesday evening around 6:30, the place was dead. Service was great, very attentive, and friendly. Kitchen whipped up some good daily specials, and held down the regulars on the menu. Basically as a patron, or a soon to be patron, you need to be realistic with yourself. If you come here on a Wednesday (Wine Wednesday where all wine is marked down 50%), obviously servers are going to hustling and you won't receive their 100% undivided attention. The joint is going to be flooded with people guzzling down bottle after bottle. However, if you'd like to enjoy the beautiful view of the lake, the cabin-esque atmosphere, and some tasty grub with very attentive service you probably should cruise it on a less busy evening. read more

I went here with my girlfriend for what we had hoped would be a nice meal. She is recovering from cancer, immunocompromised, and has a surgery in three days. Because of this we were wearing masks and asked to be seated outside. They seated us, gave us menus, and promptly appeared to forget about us. After about 12 minutes I went in to tell them that we were ready to order. They said someone would come out. 10-15 minutes later: nothing. We gave up and decided to leave. I returned our menus to the desk. The girl who initially seated us smirked and thanked me. This spot was highly recommended by the hotel we were staying at and it did not disappoint! We didn't have a reservation, but the friendly hostess took good care of us and found us a nice inside seat with a beautiful view of the lake. Our waiter (I think his name was Jacob) was sweet, friendly and didn't rush us. I started with a hot and dirty martini, which was so delicious for sipping. The bread and oil came with olives and cheese, all fresh and delicious. We split a caesar salad and meatballs as an appetizer. My husband is a meatball snob and loved them! (Me too) We ordered the pappardelle bolognese and shrimp and scallop Fra Diavolo as our entrees. Both were perfectly cooked and delectable. This restaurant is doing a great job at adjusting to serving during Covid-19. I have sat outside the 4 times I have dined here this summer. The tables are spread to a comfortable distance apart and masks are required when getting to/leaving your table. All waitstaff wear their masks. The last time I went, I got the special which was muscles with fries and a chipotle drizzle. It was delicious! Every time I've gone, the manager was sure to ask us if we were enjoying our dinner. Between the caring staff, short wait, excellent food & cautions during covid, this has been my family's go to restaurant this summer! read more

Ate here last Saturday night and we were quite disappointed. After doing a call ahead for 6:30pm and arriving promptly at 6:25pm we were told it would be about 10 minutes til a table was ready. After 50 minutes we inquired and were told if we didn't mind a high top they could seat us immediately. We had a wonderful waiter ( Jake I believe) who took our orders. We got our appetizers which were very good. And then we waited and waited for our entrees. Finally at 8:45pm they arrived and only 1 of the 4 of us even wanted to finish our dinners. Two people ordered the special (steak tips over potatoes with a sauce). Both said the tips were so chewy they had a hard time eating them. I had the short ribs over garlic mashed potatoes (not sure where they actually were) and carrots. The carrots were so underdone I couldn't even cut the with a knife!! With customer and staff safety a clear priority - from greeting us, to seating us, to the meal service they all get high marks. The food, much the same, very good. So... Short story, really terrible service. We were seated in the dark, outdoors (literally no lighting, and no one offered a solution) We read the menus with our phones. It took over 10 minutes for a waitress to greet us, another 10 for bread, and then we waited over 1 hour for food to arrive. The waitress came by at the 45 minute mark to tell us there was a back up in the kitchen, but the table seated with us got main courses and dessert menus before we got food. We had to get up ourselves to ask for a bread refill, since everyone was starving, and no one was coming by to check on us. Someone, I assume the manager, stopped by to all how things were, but didn't do anything to make the situation better either. Food? Not the worst I've ever eaten, but not remotely worth the wait. You had me at cheese and crackers, but sealed the deal with the white chocolate pieces and raspberry lemoncello that was served with the bill! This cute restaurant on the water in Meredith was a real surprise. It could easily compete with many of the fine restaurants in bigger cities: great service, excellent food, and atmosphere to boot. The scampi dish was very tasty and the pasta and shrimp were cooked perfectly. I appreciated the surprising addition of edible flowers in the arugula salad, and the option of having anchovies served on the side of the cesear salad. I thought the chicken dishes looked a bit dry, but they were surprisingly moist. We didn't have room for dessert, but the chocolate pieces that were served with raspberry lemoncello at the completion of the meal was the perfect ending. There was a wine tasting taking place on the patio, so we weren't able to sit outside, but since we were sitting near the door, we saw all of the food that went out for the tasting. Have been looking forward to earn fat Lago for a long while. Called on Friday for outdoor seating. Told 90 min wait. That's understandable - Friday on the summer on the water. 1 hour 45 min later, while 4 tables sit empty, we were still not seated. Pluses: Blake, our server tried her hardest to solve all the other errors. She was a good sport and worked hard. Bruschetta, Caesar, pizza, swordfish were great. Plain pasta was a small serving. Minuses- Orzo with swordfish was mushy and overlcooked. Carbonara with shrimp (3medium for &9) - carbonara good, shrimp pasty and terrible. BIG minus- hostess was disorganized, and did not support waitstaff. On out way out she asked us if we needed a table. We didn't get silverware until we asked after salads were served. No busing. Most food was ok, but the support service and organization of serving was so awful I don't know that I would return. read more

Came in for a late night bite after seeing a show in Plymouth. A group of 4 of us order the bruschetta, calamari and fig and prosciutto pizza. The bruschetta was nice that it came separate and you built your own, a separate pile of bread, tomatoes and cheese. The cheese and tomatoes were delicious, the bread was hard, rock hard. We couldn't event bite it. The calamari was good, we enjoyed the surprise bites of fried artichoke. When the fig pizza was put in front of us you could see it was burnt. When we commented the waitress she agreed "it does look crispy" and that was it. The pizza itself was way too sweet to much jam, and barely any prosciutto to balance the sweet and salty. It needed more flavor as well, maybe some blue cheese??? The highlight of experience, sadly, was the cheese and crackers when you first walk in to Lago. Good thing we had that to fill up on. read more
