Lago is my favorite Italian restaurant to go to in Meredith, NH! I love the cozy atmosphere it has indoors. The outside patio is open during the summer and offers an amazing view of the lake. Their drinks and food is amazing! I'm strictly gluten free and my waiter Justin was very accommodating to my allergy! He provided me with a gluten free drink and let me know all the meals they can safely offer. They even have gluten free bread while you wait for your meal! I went last night and had to wait a bit for our table but there was a wait list online that was very helpful and the staff was very kind and apologetic when our table took a little longer than expected. We sat at a table by the water which was beautiful. Our waiter was very kind. We started with the bruschetta which was delicious but only had 3 small crostini's. I ordered bolognese as my main dish like I always do. The bolognese was great as always. Plenty of meat and much bigger than it looks in the photo. During our stay in Meredith, NH we were able to enjoy dinner at Lago since we were staying at Bay Point. My daughter had the Bolognese but we did it 1/2 size since there isn't an actual kids menu but they accommodate for kiddos. My other daughter had the fried chicken that was suppose to be for a parm and they substituted the pasta for parm truffle fries. My husband and I enjoyed the Antipasto but we were surprised to see there were little mushrooms under the toast provided over arugula salad? That part we didn't love but it wasn't bad either, just depends on your preference. The jam provided was like a crossover of fig with another fruit? I'm not 100% but either way it was delicious. Dinner for adults were the Marsala and Chicken Piccata both were very tasty and presented beautifully. Our server was inviting/upbeat/ and attentive. The vibe of the place made the whole experience that much better and the place it nicely decorated with a view to the lake that I imagine must be breathtaking during the sunset hours. read more

Up in New Hampshire around the Lake Winnipesaukee area meeting my girlfriend's dad for the first time and having a blast out on the water! All that skatin' across the lake can get tiring, so we need to eat! We ended up here and here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: It's actually a full hotel RIGHT on the lake and on the main road. This restaurant is right on the 1st floor. An excellent location. I'm unsure of the car parking situation, BUT... there is a dock able to hold several boats if you're baller enough to pull up to eat in one... which we were. Lol. There's plenty of outdoor seating which looks right out onto the lake and even more seating indoors. Lots of windows and dark woods to give a real classy feeling. At the front of the dining room is a cheese table. I've never seen anything like it before, but you grab a small plate (completely complimentary), load it up with crackers of various sorts and then you can cut your cheese from one of the big blocks that are available. Just make sure you say "excuse me". Ha. I made a funny. I've heard of restaurants offering bread with your meal, but CHEESE too?! That stuff is expensive, so make sure you eat everything that you take, that stuff can't go to waste. Service: Here's where they lose a star. Well, somewhat. We showed up around 3:15pm and they didn't open until 4:00pm so we made sure we had our name on a list and chilled out on their deck among the other people who were waiting as well. This hostess... Meg. She just had the most stank attitude. Snarky, didn't smile and like... what's really your problem? From the time we initially spoke to her until we sat down. It was quite irritating and almost enough to make us go elsewhere if we had any less patience. Kate was smooth. She forgot a thing or 2, but she made up for the mood Meg had put us in. We appreciate you Kate. Food: Very good! Like I said earlier the cheese and crackers that are complimentary, those were very tasty. It's a great way to start any meal. We started off with the Calamari for an appetizer. They're served crispy with artichoke hearts, cherry peppers, olives and a lemon basil aioli. They were very good and it was a huge portion. For my entree I was quite torn between a few options, but I wound up with the Short Ribs. They're balsamic and tomato-braised short ribs with herbed Parmesan mashed potatoes. They were fantastic. So tender, savory, hot and the sides (along with some asparagus) really brought the meal together. Along with my dinner I had a Hot & Dirty martini which is an interesting concoction of Tito's Handmade Vodka, olive juice with a dash a of Tabasco, shaken madly then served with a celery salt rim and bleu cheese stuffed olives. Value: This is not a cheap place, but not over-the-top either. Of course the cheese & crackers are free. I know I keep mentioning them. Lol. The calamari was $11.00, but for the portion it was well worth it. My entree was $26.00 which doesn't seem too bad. My martini was $9.00 and I think that's actually really good for where we were eating. In conclusion I really did enjoy this place aside from the attitude we got in the beginning. What an incredible experience for my son! He got to captain a friends boat on an hour long trek across the lake to the fab Lago Restaurant. Cruising up to the boat dock is a new experience for Jake and he did terrific. The cheese and crackers and bread before dinner was a great way to calm our crazy appetites while we waited for dinner. Jake and I ordered the Pesce Wellington and the Mussels appetizer and both were plenty to share. The Wellington sole was light and flaky and the crab center was juicy and delish. It came in two big pieces surrounded with light and airy puff pastry. It was paired with grilled cauliflower. The mussels had a light red sauce with a little kick to it. I also tried some of the polenta and it was great with the cheese. We enjoyed looking out the windows as the boats were in and out across the lake our back. The service at Lago seems to be without logic. You will wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for a table, but since they do not take reservations at all, you must actually stand at the restaurant and wait. This is a restaurant in the middle of a touristy lake town, which I don't think is worth waiting 15 minutes for. The hostesses are so rude here that it just seems like the restaurant doesn't want your business. We tried to eat here two of the nights during our short stay because the food looked good, but the first time we were told it was a two hour wait without any other options, even though there were plenty of open tables. No suggestion of standing at the bar. The second night we called ahead to get a table around 9:00. The hostess didn't even suggest putting us on a waitlist - we had to ask. They texted us when our table was ready, at 8:20. Meanwhile we weren't even back in town or ready to get to the restaurant....so when we arrived at the restaurant at 9:00, the hostess insisted she texted us when our table was ready at 8:20. And her manager told her she couldn't seat anyone anymore people. I don't understand what the issue is when people want to eat at your restaurant but you make it so difficult for them... Save yourself from the poorly trained hostesses and find yourself a better meal, there is no dearth of restaurants in the area. read more

I had house wine which was good . We ordered appetizer meatballs which were delicious. Although They came out at the same time as the meal. We had a lovely Anniversary dinner with Carter our waiter. I asked Carter when I should give him my 10.00 off 50.00 from the yearly coupon book and gift cards. Carter said he would take the coupon now and the gift cards later. We also had a delightful desert along with coffee and a latte. When we received the bill without hesitation we added on a nice tip. As we left the slip ready for Carter to take it I looked over the itemized receipt realizing we were charged for two dinners that were not ours! When I went to the hostess she said they will correct. Carter came over with a (supposedly) corrected receipt with a -1.67. We asked about the negative amount and were told to ignore it. We made out another slip with a tip. The hostess came over and said it needed to be corrected my the assistant mgr. This is when we were given a third bill with a new amount which my husband would not sign! She did give us a credit on one of our gift cards which showed we were originally overcharged 50.00. At this point my husband was quite upset and was told to leave! For my 70th birthday, my wife had taken me to see the play version of On Golden Pond at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse in Meredith, NH. She offered to throw dinner in as a bonus, and we thought we'd try Lago as neither of us had been there before. To be honest, I was a little skeptical of a Common Man restaurant as we had gone to both one in Portsmouth years ago, and the Italian Farmhouse in Plymouth recently and had found them both noisy, tables close together, and rushed. We were totally surprised at how different and wonderful the Meredith Lago was. The seating was fine so that it wasn't noisy, we were made to feel relaxed and no pressure to get on with it to flip the table. The decor is really interesting, and the food was spectacular. Today, my girlfriend and I after a long day of shopping decided to stop into Lago. We were warmly greeted by the host and our server Steve when sat at our table. I've been in the restaurant industry for many years and I can say without a doubt if you have the pleasure of being taken care of by Steve, you're in excellent hands. He started us off with a flight of wine special and we ended up getting a bottle of one of our favorites. We had chicken Marsala and the NY sirloin cooked to perfection with a charcuterie board appetizer. Everything was exceptional but I really have to point out how great the service really was. From the friendly humor to the on-point recommendations, Steve is one of the best you can come across in this industry, if you have the pleasure of being served by him, you're in excellent hands, this restaurant is exceedingly lucky to have him. Everything was great: the view from the restaurant onto the lake, the cocktails, the starters (the Italian spring rolls and the pretzel rolls with cheese dip are highly recommended), and the mains (carbonara, which is more an American interpretation made with cream and lots of bacon). This isn't about the location(which is beautiful) or the food ( which we've always found to be delicious) but about the ridiculous way things were handled. It was our 15th anniversary and we wanted to dine here. Called and listened to instructions to " call an hour before you want to be seated". They open at 4:00 pm and we called right away... we were hoping for a 6:00 seating. The line was busy, so we kept trying.... for almost 45 minutes ... still busy. We finally got through and were told there was nothing available outside and that there was a waiting list. We asked about inside and were told that there wasn't anything yet so we asked if we could be on the wait list. She said "no, there isn't a wait list yet". So we asked if she could start one? We were told no.... it wasn't time yet, but we can call back at 5:45 and see what it's like. ( it's almost a half hour drive to get there). So we said, " but we'd like to be there at 6:00"... and she said "okay!". After getting absolutely nowhere with her, we drove there only to find out that the dining room was packed and if we were added to the "list", it would be a 1 1/2 hour wait. Waiters are well educated to give you a pairing on wine, and the whole atmosphere is very lake-side chill but fun. it's too bad that more of the other local restaurants around town don't step up their game to compete with the Common Man restaurants which are featured throughout the Lakes Region. Don't hesitate to stop in. I don't want to dissuade you from having a full meal, but if you're not too hungry the appetizers will serve you well.
