Stopped by Lago Mariscos for a casual dinner and was pleasantly surprised! One of my favorite things is that they offer all-day specials on Mondays and Tuesdays, which is always a nice bonus. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa had a nice flavor definitely a great way to kick off the meal. I ordered the strawberry margarita and it was refreshing, smooth, and hit the spot! We also tried the queso. It was okay, but if you're looking for a more traditional Mexican-style queso, just know this one leans more toward the Velveeta-style cheese dip. My niece ordered the grilled shrimp tacos and gave them a thumbs up! She said they were flavorful and really enjoyed them. (No picture) The atmosphere was a highlight for me. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, and the patio overlooks the lake, creating a relaxing vibe that's perfect for enjoying a meal and drinks. A special shoutout to our server, Jeanette (I believe that was her name)! She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. The service was friendly, but the atmosphere was overwhelmingly loud. I could barely hear my friends during dinner. While it's a nice touch that they celebrate birthdays, the constant cheering throughout the night just added to the noises. I ordered the fajitas, which were delicious, but they only came with two tortillas, definitely not enough for the portion size. I also requested no cilantro, and the waitress said they would substitute avocado for the cilantro-laden guac. Unfortunately, they forgot the avocado when the dish arrived, so I had to follow up to get it. A word of caution: the pepper that comes with the dish is extremely spicy. I wasn't expecting that level of heat. They do offer complimentary chips and crackers, which is a nice touch, but it wasn't salted. I couldn't enjoy it with the sauce because it contained cilantro. All in all, for the price, it didn't quite match my preferences. I'd personally rather support a smaller, mom-and-pop-style restaurant with better value or, if I'm looking for a celebratory spot, one where I can actually hear the people I'm with. read more

Loved my first time at Lago Mariscos! Pretty busy on a Saturday night but the restaurant is large so no issues getting a table. Sodas are bottled rather than fountain. Margarita was pretty standard, a little sweeter for my taste but would be interested in trying other cocktails. Chips and salsa pretty standard as well, the salsa comes out warm and is spicier than most restaurant salsas but very flavorful. Pulpo a La Parilla is absolutely the star of the show! The octopus itself was tender and so packed with flavor from the spices, the onions and peppers on the bottom were a nice pairing. Sides like beans and rice and well executed. Would highly recommend getting this! It's a whole octopus so definitely could share it, maybe order another dish to split with someone! Enchiladas and fish dishes all looked good too! Service is good- they have different workers for bringing chips, taking orders, and bringing the food out so it's a well oiled machine. Decided to give this place a try after driving past for the last year. I did not know what to expect going in but the food was delicious. Inside they have live music which can get a little rowdy if you are trying to have conversations but their outside seating option make up for it. I ordered the mango ceviche, guacamole with chicharrones, seafood soup, chicken quesadillas and a few others and everything was so good. My favorite dishes were the mango ceviche and the Chicharrón with guacamole. It's definitely a good dish to share. I would definitely recommend coming with a big group of people so you can try a bunch of dishes. Service can be a little hit or miss depending on how busy they are. They have a bunch of tables outside and inside so you have to flag down a staff member if you need something. Will definitely be back again to try their octopus dish! read more

I once visited El Bucanero in San Antonio and liked it so much that I wanted to find a restaurant similar to it near me. That's when I found this place, and I'm so glad I did. My dad, sister, and I arrived right when it opened and chose to sit on the patio since it was one of those rare, perfect-weather days that aren't too common in Texas. Just a small heads-up: pollen from the nearby trees and plants can get onto the plates, but it wasn't a big issue since it wasn't windy. Our server, Bessie, was super nice and gave us great recommendations. The complimentary salsa was hot -- a clear sign that it was fresh -- and I knew right then it was going to be a good meal. There were so many tempting options on the menu that it was hard to decide what to order. We ended up getting four dishes, but two of them stood out to me the most. The Mango Fish was cooked perfectly -- buttery, flaky, and rich without feeling heavy. I loved how the sauce incorporated mango (of course) along with octopus and onions to balance out the richness. It was honestly one of the best seared fish dishes I've ever had. The Pulpo a la Parilla was equally impressive. The octopus was so tender that I could cut it with a fork, which is rare since octopus is usually either undercooked or rubbery. It was seasoned perfectly and incredibly flavorful -- easily one of the best things I've ever eaten. I honestly can't decide which of the two was better, so you might as well just order both and find out for yourself! We also tried the Ceviche Rojo, which came with fish, shrimp, and octopus in a red aguachile sauce topped with oysters and salsa negra. While it tasted good overall, it was a little too acidic for my liking. The 7 Mares soup, which was loaded with seafood like fish, crab, mussels, scallops, octopus, and calamari, was generous in quantity but less successful in flavor -- the broth tasted overly salty and reminiscent of ocean water. Despite a few misses, this restaurant was a fantastic find. The quality of the seafood, friendly service, and relaxing atmosphere easily make it one of the better coastal-style seafood spots in the area. I came here for a work dinner of about 20 people. First off the staff was amazing and was on top of their game. (We had a water spill and they clean and replaced jt in minutes) . The place is very decorative like a festive seaport. Someone was also celebrating their birthday and they had a karaoke stage. We were on the quieter side of the restaurant. Amazingly, we can still hear each other, and it wasn't too loud despite karaoke, singing in the background. The food was amazing . The La charola is a huge ceviche dish that we share among a few of us. I think this was the spicier dish compared to the other grilled dishes that we had. The octopus was spiced, but it was a little tough to chew on yet still easy to cut with a butter knife. We have someone who isn't into seafood and she loves that octopus!! The beef was very tender. The chicken is a bit dry . I love the shrimps. The cacti were sour. Of course, chips and salsa for everybody is included. I think this is a good place to have a celebration. We went on a Tuesday night. The bar was pretty full but the restaurant was empty, only about 10% seated. That should have been our first warning. The music/karaoke from the over self-indulgent DJ was TOO LOUD to be able to have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. The only option to get away from the noise was to be seated outside on the patio which is not a realistic option for the sauna that is Sugar Land in the summer. The food and service were decent, but the noise level will prevent me from ever going back. Apparently, they have chosen to be a music/bar scene rather than a neighborhood family restaurant. Disappointed. We come here often, which made this experience even more frustrating. We arrived early on Mother's Day with 10 guests already present while the remaining 7 were on the way. Since we were a large party, the restaurant planned to seat us at two separate tables anyway, one table for 10 and another for 7. We politely asked if they could at least seat the guests who were already there because I'm 6 months pregnant and wanted to get settled and order appetizers while we waited for the rest of our family. Unfortunately, the manager Erika refused and said they could not seat us until the entire party arrived. What made this especially disappointing was that the restaurant was practically empty with plenty of open tables available. We would have completely understood if the restaurant had been packed or there was a long wait, but that simply was not the case. This is a gem! I've been wanting to come here but hesitant. The reviews don't show the depth of the offerings available. Happy hour has a lot of offerings that I would love to try, but only offered on weekdays! However it's the weekend. We sat at the bar for a quick lunch and enjoyed everything about our experience. Food had great taste and the watermelon margaritas were excellent! Service was spot on and attentive! Ambiance was spacious and relaxed. My only complaint is I got full too quick. We ordered appetizers with intentions of ordering entrees! The empanadas and chicharrones with guacamole were what I've been missing! I will definitely be back. The menu reads well with typical Tex mex meeting authentic! I can get fajitas, ceviche, fried shrimp platter, fried rice, or a chicken sandwich! A complete disappointment. Honestly I had such high hopes and expectations for this place after seeing so many great reviews for the high-quality food, excellent service and great ambiance. However, none of the above applied to my first-time experience at Lago Mariscos. Sad! The food was so-so. The oysters on the half shell were small, thin and translucent- just not my favorite. The 7 Mares soup tasted kind of funny- it was not served hot or warm but slightly cold. Was this soup supposed to be served that way? The Paella was A-OK. The chargrilled octopus was a little chewy, the shrimp was overcooked, the mussels were super small and some were not fresh and smelled bad. The fish filets and whole scallops were good. The scallops were actually pretty big and fresh- loved 'em. Yay! Service was alright- everyone looked so busy. We did make a reservation but still had to wait half an hour to be seated. Our server had disappeared for a long time after food was served, until she showed up again with our check. The live band- O.M.G. They were SOOOOOO LOUD in a bad way. Seriously, I was not able to hear anything else when the band was playing the unpleasantly loud music. Argh. We were seated about 50-60 feet away from the stage, but still, it was way too loud!! To me, this was not music for entertainment but extremely loud noise that hurt my ears. It was a packed Friday night and we had a rather large party. We were seated outside and luckily the weather was pleasant. On Friday evenings they also have a live band for entertainment. I was told that the seafood boil was a good choice and that's what I got. I got a combination of crab legs and shrimp, the crab and shrimp was seasoned well and nicely cooked. My mango margarita was great to wash everything down with. They have lots of seafood entrées to choose from. Next time I would like to try their ceviche. Our service was attentive and polite. We sat in the covered patio which was very warm (perhaps problems with the air). My dish was the Mango Fish topped with crab, shrimp and octopus. It was delicious!! Such a fun lively restaurant! The atmosphere was so fun with mariachi going around the whole restaurant and lots of families eating. It's quite crowded so a reservation is probably really helpful. Our Spanish isn't very great and our servers' English wasn't great but we were able to communicate. Regardless they were all so nice and happy to help us and work around the language barrier. The food was great and the seafood was so good. The oysters were a nice size and tasted great for a good price too. The Parrillada deliciosa was really good and great for sharing. I went to Lago Mariscos restaurant a few times in the past for dinner. I went there to celebrate my birthday two years ago. I liked their service and food quality. I went back again to celebrate my birthday with my friends. Their food is always delicious. The restaurant is always busy and crowded. They have a band playing music. It is a big restaurant, and they have outdoor table seating for customers. The restaurant atmosphere is very cozy. The staff is so wonderful, polite, professional, and helpful. I love their fish ceviche and fish tacos because they taste so good. The guacamole salsa dip was good, but they served it with wilted lettuce. Overall, we had an amazing time dining at this restaurant on my birthday. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes Mexican food. read more

Let me start by saying that the food is great - especially the ceviche, which I make a meal out of (go for the aquachile if you like that green salsa style spice). Service is good, they're usually pretty busy, but the wait staff keeps up. And why 4 star then? If it isn't music blaring, it's Mariachi's blaring, or random soliciting of photographs. Every server we've had while the mariachis are around have commiserated - they don't like them either. It was so bad one time we almost cancelled our order and left (this was because another patron a table over from us plunked down a $20 and wanted the mariachis to serenade all through dinner). At least it isn't every night like this, but in the several times we've been there, it's always been *something*. Food is good at a decent price though, so we'll keep going back, but keeping it to non weekend evenings. read more

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The food was extremely disappointing this was my first and definitely my last time eating here. I ordered the seafood mix plate (fajita, chicken, shrimp, quesadilla and octopus), and the octopus was clearly spoiled. It tasted like it had been cooked the day before and reheated in tomato sauce to try to hide the flavor. One bite in and I had to spit it out, it completely killed my appetite. The rest of the plate wasn't any better. The chicken was burnt and dry, the shrimp was overcooked, and the quesadilla was dry and tough. We told the waitress, and she took the plate back but simply offered to replace the octopus with more shrimp... which came out bland and tasted like plain butter. No improvement at all. The only edible items were the rice, beans, and tortillas, which says a lot. The queso flameado appetizer was good, but one decent dish doesn't make up for the rest of the disaster. To make matters worse, when it was time to pay, we expected at least some acknowledgment or discount for the terrible experience. Instead, the manager said she "didn't see the condition of the food," so no compensation was offered, even though we left most of the meal untouched. Not worth the $70 at all. Save your money and go somewhere else, I would have rather gone to Mambo's. read more

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant! We saw this place being featured on social media and had to give it a try, so glad we did. Food: 5/5 we got the ceviche, seafood soup and grilled octopus. I didn't really have high expectations but the freshness and flavor of the dishes blew me away. The margarita portions were HUGE and they were delicious too. This place gives you great food at a great value, what's not to like? Service: 5/5 service was AMAZING. They came to check on us frequently and got us our food and drinks quickly. First, I tried to place an order with their online system but I guess they're not using it or watching it because the order didn't get confirmed. Then I called to place the order and the lady I spoke to was very nice. She told me my food would be ready for pickup in 10-15 minutes. I get to the restaurant in about 17 minutes. No one was at the hostess stand for about 3-4 minutes. Turns out, the food wasn't ready and we had to wait another 10 -15 min more for them to get it ready. We ordered a variety of foods. - chips & salsa (included with every order for free) - I like the chips from here because they're thin. The salsa comes warm and has a nice kick to it. - guac was a sizeable portion and had nice chunks of avocado in it - 7 mares soup - a disappointment. It was very salty, couldn't drink that much of the broth. The ingredients weren't the freshest. - fish playa azul - this dish was ok. very little crab and the crab was a bit mushy. However, happy hour is only eligible at the bar! I'm very picky with my Mexican food....i typically judge places off of their charro beans. If you don't have good charros, you ain't Mexican. Unfortunately, I didn't have the charros! LOL!! But I did have the barria tacos and they were absolutely delicious. If you check in, you get free queso. I didn't like the queso very much but their red sauce was pretty tasty! We had gummy bear shots, House Margaritas, Mojitos and Top Shlef Margaritas. We all thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. The Baja fish tacos were light, crispy, and very satisfying. The seafood enchiladas were some of the better ones I've had in a long while. Last but not least, the mixed parillada we had was scrumptious. The only thing we didn't enjoy (wasn't bad but wasn't great) was the queso flameado. On the drink front, micheladas baby! The margaritas were also yum. The Queso Flameado is mandatory eats. The beef is marinated soooo well. Augustine also fantastic. The mid: the octopus / shrimp were all overcooked. Good flavor but texture too rubbery. I think this is because we had it on the grill plate with the meats, and that constant heat just did not do good to the seafood. I know it looks cool for presentation but doesn't feel cool in my mouth. The bad: Service. The servers were nice enough but were quick to run away whenever I tried to place an order. And no one I mean no one understands the concept of bussing tables. We piled all our used plates next to us at the end of our table and I stared at it for the entirety of our dinner. Great place for seafood, lively music lots of events during the week and specials. The food was good service was excellent. At the time of my visit December 2023 i was told they have only been open for about a year. I was given a tour of the establishment and it was a big place plenty of room. They even have a private room on the second floor to host 100 guests they have pretty good deals on that option. Overall it was a great experience i spoke to the manager in charge and he was very nice and gave us the run down of the daily specials. One thing to note is that the establishment is just a little hidden behind/middle of the chick-fil-a and Carrabas in the same area. But if once you turn onto the area you can't miss it.
