So came here for dinner while waiting for a client up the road and 1st impression gave off a real friendly authentic Mexican Restaurant the staff were friendly and fluent in both Spanish and English and did very well. The issue I run into is the food and if you're a full blown white person who's never tasted authentic Mexican food before then this place might entertain that. The tortilla looked as if they microwaved it no crispy texture that I expect from a flat top grill the beans and rice were not fresh in fact tasted like day old beans and rice very disappointing they also had a young employee who wore glasses didn't catch his name but you ever hear the term the loudest one in the room has the most to prove that kid was loud and pushy like come on kid are you a restaurant or local bar pushing locals to get drunk the experience was just eh ok nothing to really praise and it's unfortunate the food quality simply failed my expectations for quality freshness. I won't be back or recommend it. I gave a tip and 2 stars simply for the quality level of service the woman gave was very good but that's not enough to keep me coming back. Sorry guys. read more

This place is part of a strip mall off the side of the road. Next to a hardware store. Isnt that how all the best restaurant stories start? I would honestly give this place three and a half stars. The portions and the quality of the food are pretty good. It has a reputation of being the best Mexican food in town I certainly don't see the Mexicans in there eating the food to second that. However if you are looking for Extra large margherita in an extra large serving container this is the place for you. Nothing against large drinks served in a large glasses just not what I am looking for in a restaurant. The service is a little slow. Started off with two other tables in the place and we waited and we waited to be seated as the sign instructed. Then another table and another table. Eventually we were noticed and did get seated. Chips and salsa were provided we had enough time to eat the whole bowl before someone came back to take our order. The wait for the food seemed just as long. Every plate is served hot so be careful to not touch the plates. I guess they finished the meals in with the plates in the oven. It's a positive food experience maybe an even better drink experience. Finally, free chips and salsa. I like the enchiladas verdes, its my go now, since i cant really find a restaurant (thats close) that does good enchiladas verde. The service is excellent. Its quiet when theres few tables but once it gets busy it gets loud. I love it. Its small, good for small social gatherings (considering the size of the place). Gracias por servicio bueno. Pretty good but I wish there was a bit more seasoning and time given to allow the sauces to thicken. I had the Chile Colorado burrito, which has delicious tender beef and nice red sauce. I expected it to be spicy but it was very mild and beefy. My friend had beef enchiladas and the sauce was pretty thin and mild. The beans were also on the thin side but the rice was good (traditional style). Churros are not home made (we were told) but my only issue was the lack of cinnamon and sugar. This place has an extensive menu covering both Americanized (tacos?) and authentic Mexican food (menudo, seafood soup). The food is solid, drinks strong, and service good. The menudo is exceptional and sells out early some days. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Newberg, by far, a town not known for dining quality. In fact, it may be one of the best restaurant in town of any kind. The others are either shocking quality (Black Bear, Sharis) or completely fake food at preposterously high prices (Rosemarino, Newburgundian). I held back one star because they don't have charro beans and because the waiters can be a bit gruff. read more

Service is great, super friendly staff. However I ordered seafood enchiladas and there was no seafood in it. To be fair, I didn't say anything when I was there, I wasn't feeling good and didn't eat it all but I did mention it to my husband that there wasn't anything but cheese in them. He took the left overs for lunch today and said he got one salad shrimp in his last bite. We were passing thru town and stopped to get lunch. I can honestly say I regret not walking over to the taco place right across the parking. My hubs had a taco and enchilada and I had 2 tacos. I think the guy working was alone. As far as I know there was no cook in the back and it was just him waiting on us and cooking. Our food came out super quick. Im pretty certain the meat was just microwaved and brought out in cold taco shells. The chicken was shredded and flavorless. I also had the ceviche but I didn't care for it. The food wasn't bad but it also wasn't good. I'm sorry but I have rarely had bad Mexican food but I think I just stumbled across my first. Quaintly out dated decor. In a strip mall off of 99 which made us weary. We were greeted after a few minutes by a nice guy. The menu was typical but lacked any reference (other than a vegetarian burrito) to any veggie options. Turns out the beans and rice don't have any chicken or pork in them, which is unusual for a Mexican restaurant. I ordered the bean tostadas. The beans were bland and watery. Basically that and a ton of lettuce. My husband got the veggie burrito. He requested broccoli in it but the waiter said they didn't have any. Strange.... The burrito had a lot of flavor. In contrast to my bland, watery tostados. The guacamole that was included in the meal was sparse at best and watery. All and all the restaurant was mediocre and if you are looking to NOT cook on a Monday and are Vegan, it might fit the bill. Otherwise there are plenty of better options for Mexican food. Great spot. Ill say this place isn't your typical Mexican tasting restaurant. It has more of a homemade taste which is hard to find nowadays. I got an enchilada lunch special when I went and the shredded chicken within plus the sauce was delicious. Rice and beans were tasty too. Also the gauc is to die for!!! Heads up Chapala: this should read 2.5 stars and quickly falling. I'm giving you 2.5 stars for now because we've had a long, long relationship. Remember the time the two year old kid puked all over the place? Priceless, and no, it wasn't your fault. I've been coming here for 10+ years now. I've eaten here more times than I care to remember. The wife always gets the exact same thing: Camarones ala Crema. The last time it had a bunch of shrimp tails in it. I usually mix it up and get Chili Verde, Carne Asada, or something else. The food is always mediocre, nothing fancy. It is never great, yet never bad - such is the perplexity that is Lago De Chapala. It is fairly cheap. The service is OK, the staff is usually friendly, but you are ALWAYS waiting just a little too long to get your waters refilled. Fans of mine will note that I usually take a whole star off if my water is not promptly refilled ASAP. Almost every time we are done eating, we get tired of waiting for our check and end up going to the front to pay for the meal. Why the 2.5 star rating then? The last time we were in there, the restroom had a sign stating NO TOILET PAPER IN THE TOILET. WTF? The last time I checked, toilet paper gets flushed down the toilet and not stuffed into a garbage can (nasty!). I'm not sure I will be back soon, as there are two other pretty decent Mexican joints in Newberg that will happily let me flush my toilet paper down with the rest of my "business". read more

Did not care for the food or the slow service. The exception was the salsa and chips. Salsa actually seemed fresh and had a bit of a kick. The bean "dip" though was just bland refried beans - grey in color - ick. The meal was very basic, no frills (at all - where's the salad/slaw?) bland mushy food. Portions were average (which fit with the price). Everything on my plate pretty much tasted the same, of course after a couple bites, I smothered everything in the salsa to try to find some flavor, so.. The kids quesadilla was about the only thing I enjoyed (after my son decided he didn't like it for some reason). If you like your Mexican food bland and boring, then this might be the place for you. The service was slow. I'm used to being in and out of a Mexican restaurant in 30-40 mins MAX! We were there for at least an hour, and I finally had to ask for my check, then pay up front (instead of waiting another 5-10 mins for my server to come back), just so we could get out of there. Service was not rude. That's about the best I can say. As for the Margarita I had, it tasted like the kind I make at home with the mix I buy from the grocery store, and some basic tequila. Certainly, not anything noteworthy. Not terrible (otherwise, I would not make them at home), but the juice was not "fresh", which is what I've come to expect from "good" Mexican restaurants.
