    Chicken chimichanga with Chile relleno

We've been on the hunt for a "favorite" Mexican restaurant since moving into the area five years ago. Ixtapa has been our favorite so far! Very friendly service, great salsa, big portions served hot. The interior seemed friendly and inviting. I liked how they had decorated for Christmas. Not sure why it's so hard to find good Mexican food in the PDX area but it's been disappointing. At least Ixtapa is someplace we can go to know we'll get some solid, tasty food.

A nice serving of chips and salsa

Surprise surprise it's a family run Mexican restaurant in Newberg. The chips and salsa as always are fresh and ready for nom nom. There is a lot on the menu. As always I don't know seems like they should make it easier or specialize in something. It just makes all the food kind of okay. You can see they are trying to please everyone and draw in customers by having everything. To me that is the downside. If there is nothing special then everything is not special. Served with beans and rice maybe shouldn't be with everything It just makes me think of the delivery truck that just makes five exact stops at five exact restaurants and delivers the same thing to each one giving them recipe cards saying your customers will love this. Just makes the place serving I don't know Avacado salad seem that much more authentic and family owned. It s good if you want a lot to eat. Portions are big and fill up the plate. Service Is friendly and attentive. Nothing to say try this or the blank is the best. Decent enough if nothing else is open and you are hungry.

We're not talking cutting gourmet Mexican food here! This is traditional, hand painted walls, little booths etc! We are vegan, we asked the waitress if the beans were vegan. Turns out there are refried , black and kidney bean options all vegan! We went with the spinach enchilada and avocado tostada with black beans. All came hot and just aS we expected. The wait staff was so pleasant and made sure we had everything we needed! I gave this restaurant a lower score befoRRe because se off thE attitude of the wait staff. This visit, was totally different!! Every aspect of this visit was as to be expected of a neighborhood Mexican restaurant.

This is an enthusiastic 5 STARS!!! The place looks a bit run down and not fancy, but it's an authentic family restaurant that turns out solidly delicious Mexican dishes. The rice, an often overlooked side dish, was so good...I saw people next to us order dishes of them in addition to the rice and beans that comes with the entrees. After I ate all of the rice off my plate, my kid's plate, and my husband's plate...I had to stop myself. The rice was so flavorful, I would have had two more servings if my stomach was my exploding. The carne asada, chicken enchiladas, and halibut fish tacos were also very good. Our table fo 4 people ate about 6 orders of salsas and guacamole. They kept refilling the chips (which were warm and crispy), so we felt we needed to eat more and not waste their hospitality. LOL. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for solidly good, authentic Mexican food at a family restaurant.

Tons of flavors, but I always get blackberry:)

Locally owned, fast, tasty!! I've been going here since I was a kid and never had a bad experience. The staff is polite, professional and patient. Food is fast, fresh and f*%#ing phenomenal. Kitchen is visible from dining area and restaurant is clean and comfortable. In my opinion, it's the best Mexican food in Newberg.

    Three tacos, rice and beans

There are so many great things about this place, but I knock a star for its lack of cleanliness. The flavor is also very basic, but still delicious. I had three tacos - two carne asada and one pollo - with rice and beans. The tacos fell apart while eating them, but other than that they were good. The complimentary chips and salsa were super tasty. This place is good and has some really good flavors. Just have to order the right things. Would recommend!

I ordered the day's specialty, Sam's Tacos--three freshly handmade tortillas filled with shrimp, bacon, and steak, served with a delicious spicy peanut sauce. Every bite was savory, flavorful, and completely worth the wait. Since everything is made fresh to order, don't expect your meal to arrive immediately. However, the quality more than makes up for the extra time. You can really taste the freshness and care that goes into each dish. My friend ordered the huevos rancheros and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The portions are generous, and we both left feeling full and satisfied. Kopitos is tucked away in downtown Newberg, making it a fun little hidden gem. I noticed they advertise live music, so it's probably a great spot to visit in the late afternoon or evening. They also have plenty of outdoor seating, which would be perfect on a warm, sunny day. There is limited parking in front of the restaurant, but street parking is available nearby. I highly recommend Kopitos if you're in or around the Newberg area. Fresh, flavorful food, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere make it well worth a visit!

When we came by, they had live music, and initially had the garage door open (it was closed as the evening got cooler). Prices were high for taqueria -- but this is an upscale alternative, and certainly not expensive relative to the sit-down restaurants nearby. But, don't go thinking it'll be a quick street taco experience -- it's a full restaurant. I had the street tacos. I would have gone 5-star, except I made the mistake of asking for the green salsa, and putting it all over the tacos. They ended up being *so* spicy -- much more than I was expecting, and honestly hard for me to eat. Obviously my fault for not testing the waters carefully -- but it did affect my enjoyment of the evening. Just be forewarned!

The issue I run into is the food and if you're a full blown white person who's never tasted authentic Mexican food before then this place might entertain that. The tortilla looked as if they microwaved it no crispy texture that I expect from a flat top grill the beans and rice were not fresh in fact tasted like day old beans and rice very disappointing they also had a young employee who wore glasses didn't catch his name but you ever hear the term the loudest one in the room has the most to prove that kid was loud and pushy like come on kid are you a restaurant or local bar pushing locals to get drunk the experience was just eh ok nothing to really praise and it's unfortunate the food quality simply failed my expectations for quality freshness. I won't be back or recommend it. I gave a tip and 2 stars simply for the quality level of service the woman gave was very good but that's not enough to keep me coming back. Sorry guys.
