This isn't really a 'winery', it's more like 'their home, where they grow grapes and make wine, and maybe if you're cool you can come taste.' So, don't just drive up here unannounced, that would be in poor taste.
We were first introduced to this winery at the Mt. Veeder appellation tasting at Hess. They were the only people not pouring Cab (the dominant grape of the mountain climes). Instead we tried Mondeuse & Syrah - Carole and Steve are iconoclasts in that way.
Mr. Lagier and Ms. Meredith are great. Their wine is great. Their many cats are great. The view is great. Their understanding of wine and the industry is unparalleled.
Pro-Tip: They do a joint venture called 'Chester's Anvil' with Aaron Pott (their neighbor, and fellow Napa legend) - definitely worth a try. I recommend the Malbec. read more
