Academy Allergy Asthma & Sinus - Dr Patterson, a huge fan of the bow tie!

Academy Allergy Asthma & Sinus

Dr. Patterson is such a knowledgeable dr. He is the first Immunologist who actually cares about my…read morehealth. His staff also knowledgeable and nice. I've also never had a Dr. personally call to check in on me. I highly recommend from an Immunology standpoint, I can't speak on the Allergy part... but im sure he's just as great in that area, too.

I moved to Indiana from Michigan in '98 and quickly suffered sinus infection after sinus infection…read more Like, I would be on back to back courses of meds. After a few years, my doctor suggested I might have allergies so I tried to self-medicate. That worked until a disastrous trip to meet my fiance's extended family ended with me suffering an awful sinus headache from being outside so much. A few weeks later, I was off my meds and at Academy for allergy tests. Unfortunately the first round of tests didn't show much. I was disheartened until I found out that, basically, after the age of 25, we have been exposed to so much that the lower dose in the first round of testing doesn't show much. BUT, if I were to have an extreme allergy, a higher dose would have caused an unwelcome reaction. Reluctantly, I pressed on, paying out of pocket because this went towards my deductible. The second round of testing involved approximately 60 shots, applied on both arms. Thankfully the nurses kept me talking about whatever we talked about. They weren't normal shots, per se, but they did sting. Finally, I had results. I have allergic rhinitis, non-allergic rhinitis and allergies to a few types of grass and mold. After changing my meds and adding some nasal sprays didn't bring about the desired results, the nurse practitioner recommended allergy shots. Oh what a difference! I am on maintenance now (and very well could be for a few years) and, although I take claritin twice a day, use my nasal sprays and take another med, I am at least functional. I can be outside with minimal side effects. Yes, I still feel it if I am outside for a prolonged period of time, but it's an annoyance now, not debilitating. If you think you have allergies, I urge you to seek out the services of an allergist. It is a long process but it is so, so worth it to be relived of the suffering I felt for so many years! (And that includes going on a cruise while covered in arm bumps from the testing!)

Doctor Short was absolutely terrible. He has absolutely no bedside manner at all. He did nothing to…read morehelp me and was just argumentative over symptoms I explained. If you need an allergist, do not go here. If you have any sort of issue with your throat, he says he cannot help you even though he is an ear, nose, and, you guessed it, THROAT, doctor. On the other hand, if you happen to enjoy having a scope fed up through you nose and down your throat, by all means, go, but he'll also treat you like less than a person should you have any natural human reaction to having said items put in your nose. One of the nurses tried to assist me, but I did not appreciate her vagueness and humor, feeling as terribly as I do. I didn't appreciate being handed a sucker as if I am some child that would be appeased in such a way. I have a serious issue that was being brushed off and my agony, dismissed. She also did not call me the evening after my appointment with the referral I was told I would receive for some other quack. Visiting this office was a complete waste of time. Dr. Short was completely rude and left the room abruptly. He got paid, so he didn't give a crap. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. I would not return even if he were the only doctor left on Earth and I was at death's door. Doctors like him make me despise the entire profession. Anyone who pays any attention to my reviews knows that I am not one to hand out one star reviews on a regular basis. This doctor absolutely earned every bit of his one star status on Yelp. Thank you for nothing.
