This spot has a modern, trendy atmosphere, but the food didn't quite live up to the setting. The crab claws didn't taste very fresh, and the halibut was slightly overcooked. Considering the price point, I think there are better seafood restaurants in Portland that offer a better overall experience.

Wonderful! Very elegant but relaxed space. Everything we ordered was delicious. We wished they had a fridge where they were selling the uni butter and rolls in bulk because we couldn't get enough! The spice bag with the chili lime seasoning was a sneaky crowd pleaser. We will be back!

Thanks to the Rubins we get another creative chef from NYC. And Christine Lau is laudable! We miss Bar Futo but this makes up for it with unique tastes in food and drink. Always liked the space with long dog friendly patio and the staff was exceptional. Just about everything was a favorite: the halibut ceviche, tuna carpaccio, scallops in a blanket, eggplant dip. A big, tender piece of fried pollock was catch of the day for lettuce wrap, but we wished there were a couple more bigger leafs for wrapping. Mussels casino were a bit dry and boring. Drinks were great, especially the ladyfish martini. This strip of Fore street is a culinary delight.

Went to dinner here for their opening night! Everything we had was fantastic and so well done. I got a Maine Italian Martini which is their twist on a martini with amatos pickles which was a neat. We tried so many different dishes and all of them were great. My favorite was the scallops in a blanket. Everything is different and fun and great for sharing. Lots of seating and two big bars. Overall I'll be back again to try some more dishes!

Amazing, ambitious and creative! Service was outstanding including attention to the food allergies in our group. Sit at the chef's counter if you can, even more fun. Ladyfish has a sleek, contemporary feel--don't question the menu, don't try to overthink it, just order it. Christine Lau knows what she's doing, just trust her. Portland has a new gem.

I had a noodle fish with clams. It was horrible. It was gummy on top and fried noodles below. Their take on clam chowder was underwhelming.

It's a very casual spot, so it's an excellent spot for a midday treat. The oyster list is very extensive, and it's hard to pick. But the staff are able to make excellent recommendations. When in doubt, just ask! They brought us 3 different species that were excellent. 5/5. The brown butter lobster roll was the star of the show. The only issue I had with it was that the actual roll (not the lobster) seemed a little undercooked. So it was a bit gooey. But not too gooey that the dish wasn't enjoyable. I wish it was a little bigger given the price as compared to other local lobster rolls. Still was delicious. A solid 4/5.

We sat at the bar and got to see all the action and it was quite a performance to watch all the oysters getting shucked. The sauces (horseradish ice and red onion ice in particular) really amplified the flavor of the various oysters and really helped make it a great experience. We got there pretty early but still had a bit of a wait but I'd say it was worth it. We also had a lobster roll which was different from what you're used to but it was good. The team working there was on top of things and I imagine during high season this place must be absolutely nuts. Definitely worth a visit.

The fish tasted super fresh and like clean-eating without being at all flavorless or boring. You can swap the fries for a Caesar salad among other things. It's about $20 which I think is really great deal for a high quality fish sandwich and a small salad. The restaurant itself also has a very refreshing clean feel, feels almost like it's sanitizing just to be in there. I went back today and got the same thing as take out version because it was so good. I had been hesitant to go here because I thought of it as a chain and it's located in the heart of tourist-mecca-Portland. I had seen the outposts in New York City and in Philadelphia, and so when I moved to Maine, I went to other places first for "authentic" lobster rolls. However, of all the places I have been for seafood so far in Maine, this is probably my favorite, or a close tie with SoPo Seafood, but has the advantage of a seaside location and more enjoy-the-weekend vibes. It has a fun, uplifting, light feel and seemingly really good food. Highly recommend.

We are so lucky to walk up at 8 pm and get a table. Not any table, but next to the kitchen. It was so awesome to sit there and watch their masterpieces come to life. The amount of pans and flames on the fire was pretty cool. We waited a bit for our waiter, but once he arrived he was attentive and did well. Bread service was delicious. Butter cokes our very cold, we used the candle to warm it. They wait staff got a chuckle out of that and said rush cooks give us melted butter. Ha ha We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer. Deliciously prepared and cooked. Mmmm. I ordered the special--Tuna Ragu My husband sword fish Swordfish was a little over cooked but the flavor was very good. Fish. Delicious. Now let's talk about the tuna Ragu. It was the most delicious strange thing I've had yet on this trip. My Brain was like... why is there fish in this pasta and my tastebuds are like who the heck cares this amazing. The homemade pasta was delicate and fluffy yet cooked al dente and soaked up all the sauce/gravy. The tuna had a slight fish taste, but it was fresh- perfect and not over whelming. There had to be a spicy sausage hidden in there because every other bite was bursting with a spicy hint. Absolute perfection! They tried to give us the dessert menu, but we were so full. If you can get in on a walk in night. Definitely do it!

It's likely we just showed up during an off day/time but left more disappointed than excited. Booked a reservation for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary of when we started dating and they did include a card thanking us for choosing to celebrate it with them. Was a nice little touch. Inside has a rustic feeling vibe and the low ceilings does make it quite loud. Our server eventually greeted us and took our drink orders. I had a spicy tequila cocktail called Kissies and Poppies while my wife had a gin based cocktail called Secret Garden. Both were decent but nothing special enough to rush back for. Appetizer wise the only one on their menu during our visit was freshly sliced prosciutto which was tasty but did not stand out anymore than your typical grocery store prosciutto. For the main event and the purpose of checking them out my wife got the Shrimp Linguine in Butter and Garlic. I gave their Grilled Lobster Linguine in Butter and Garlic a try. Both dishes had great flavor and they did not skimp on garlic! Lobster does come in shell and our server did warn us. Despite the good taste the slow service really left a sour taste in our mouths. Our reservation was for 9:30 PM (showed up a bit early) and didn't receive food til almost 10:30 or after and we ordered relatively quick. Our server did come over once during our wait saying it would be soon. Though once we got our food the server didn't check on us again til we finished. Maybe it was due to being part of the last meals being served. Not a great excuse but who knows, extremely lackluster service for a higher end spot that should make you feel welcome! We did skip out on dessert to avoid more waiting. Im glad so many people enjoy this spot, but if my wife and I are feeling a nicer dinner we will go elsewhere!

We started with the fish chowder since they didn't have clam chowder. This was probably the only dish that felt average to me, although my husband really enjoyed it. Everything else was a completely different story. The raw seafood was so fresh. We tried the oysters, clams, scallops, and spoons, and every bite tasted clean, fresh, and high quality. The prices were also surprisingly reasonable compared to a lot of other places serving similar seafood. For our entrees, we both went with the hot butter lobster roll. It was classic, simple, and exactly what I expected a good lobster roll to taste like. For the price, I definitely think it was worth it. The restaurant has a casual, laid back ambiance, which fits perfectly with the no frills seafood experience. It's a great spot if you're looking for something relaxed rather than fancy. Service was attentive, friendly, and overall great. If you're in Portland and craving seafood without wanting to spend a fortune, I highly recommend giving this place a try!

I loved that it was right by the harbor and you could see the ocean right outside. I felt like the service was pretty standard, but the food was disappointing. We got the cornbread and the fried squid with cherry peppers to start. We also ordered the halibut ceviche, the fish and chips, and the seared scallops. The corn bread was decent at best. The butter it was paired with was good, but overall the dish was nothing special. (6/10) The fried squid with cherry peppers was one of the better dishes of the night. The squid was well cooked and tender. I liked the thin and cripsy batter on the squid and the peppers. The sour/sweet taste of the peppers with the squid paired well and I liked all the sauces it came with as well. (7.5/10) The halibut ceviche was not what I expected at all. The halibut was bland and very chewy. The dish was more like a crudo than a ceviche. Though the fish was fresh it was not representative of a ceviche. (4/10) The fish and chips were also a disappointment. The fish batter was way too thick for my liking though the fish inside was perfectly cooked. I also was not a fan of the beer batter itself. The fries were too salty. The best thing on the plate was the tartar sauce. (5/10) The scallops were super tender and cooked perfectly. I liked the bits of bacon and mushroom on the plate as well. The plating is also stunning. The flavors of this dish were the best out of everything we tried. (8.8/10) Overall, the restaurant is gorgeous and feels upscale and the service is decent, but the food was a let-down for me. At this high of a price point, I just expected the flavors/ quality of the dishes to be better. Though there were some good dishes, the majority of the food we had was not on par with other seafood restaurants I have tried. We could have just gotten the wrong things, but I wouldn't go back based on my experience.

Once you are seated, you're handed a paper menu on which you mark your selections, then bring that marked-up menu to the counter, where you order and get a number. Food is brought up to you, and you can order subsequent rounds of food by crossing out previous orders and marking up the menu anew. I would highly recommend multiple rounds of oysters -- the first to try one of each and figure out which varieties you prefer, the second to get more of the ones you like, and the last to go all in on your favorite. They've got a varied selection that will suit various tastes, whether you favor a large creamy oyster, a small briny guy, or somewhere in between. All from Maine, which made me feel better about having oysters in a non-ber month. The oysters here are top notch, and the shuckers are, too. Not a single speck of shell in there! I love oysters, and this was my paradise. The non oyster items are also worth trying, so if you have a friend who isn't into oysters, there's something here for them, too. The smoked fish dip and french onion dip are awesome, and the chips they get from another local producer are fantastic. Whether you're a beer lover, a wine person, or a cocktailer, they've got something for you here. Any of those could be the perfect company for your favorite oyster, or you could go for their cucumber mint lemonade slushy, which is insanely refreshing and a great palate cleanser between oysters. Service is efficient, welcoming, and friendly. I think anyone from an oyster novice to an aficionado would feel right at home here. If I didn't live on the opposite side of the country, I'd be here all the time. Unfortunately for me, I'm relegated to pining for these oysters from a distance.
