Anyhoo, I love them. 1) They're just so darn caring. We met them yeeeeears ago when we lived across the street from their OG location. They were always SO warm and welcoming when we walked in and so helpful finding our baby Jake the right kind of food. 2) Speaking of, they carry the BEST food, treats, toys and bath products for our now two dogs! Psst... they have cat stuff too. 3) Did I mention they are so darned caring? We just went to visit their new spot located right next door to the best vet ever - Paz. Our new rescue dog has been eating grass and apparently not getting enough nutrients so after visiting Paz, we went next door to get some recos from our trusted friends at Prime Pet. Of course, they knew what to send us home with. We picked up some new grub, the boys picked out a couple of treats that smelled good to them (ahem, it all smelled good to them) and we also picked up an adorable squeaky toy that resembles mama's favorite treat - a bottle of Tito's Vodka. ;) I highly recommend making Prime Pet your go-to for pet supplies. If they don't have something you want, let them know! They're also taking all the precautions during COVID so you can be sure you feel safe when shopping. If you don't want to shop in-person, they offer curbside and same-day area delivery. Bonus: if you're lucky, your pup might even get featured on their Instagram @primepetaustin!

You have to make a reservation online to see the cats, that part was easy but it took a moment when we actually got there. They lock the doors and I had to call to get let in but once we were in, it was great! So many kitties of all sizes and ages. It's nice and quiet in the facility as well, so it's easy to zen and lock in with the babies. Loved this place so much that it's made me want to start my own facility like this back up here at home

Please note that they have drip coffee only. Their mission.."Purrfecto partners with Texas rescues to give adoptable cats an opportunity to find new homes. Just like humans, all cats have different purrsonalities, but they all need love. We have created the perfect environment for them to relax and meow around while they wait to discover their perfect match. We are hoping to reduce euthanasia in animal shelters and increase adoptions. We want to provide homeless cats with 9 lives full of love." Cool concept...you pay $15 for 30 minutes or $30 for 70 minutes to play with a cat in the lounge to determine whether you want to adopt a cat. The space is bright, welcoming and open. It is like a group cat love fest. The lounge has been in business for about 4 years and have had about 1,900 adoptions. My friend did not adopt a cat but she will return. You must make an appointment to visit with the cats.

APA!'s mission is to promote and provide the resources, education, and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals. Their vision is that every shelter animal, in Central Texas and beyond, gets a true chance at the life they deserve. Austin Pets Alive! is not an average animal shelter. They pioneer comprehensive, innovative programs designed to save the animals most at risk for euthanasia. They have a 95% animal save rate...the highest in the country. I volunteer as a dog walker every day. The dogs are well cared for, and they ensure that each dog gets walked 3 times a day. In addition, they participate in play year activities to make sure they get proper exercise and socialization. The kennels are always kept clean and hosed down after pet accidents. They have matchmaker services to make sure an adopted pet is compatible with their new owners. And they offer a lifetime of behavioral support, by dog behavior experts, for adopted dogs. Austin Pets Alive values their volunteers and hold appreciation meetings twice a year. The most recent one as at AGBG, with free pizza for everyone. They were voted best nonprofit for several years.

Anyone that has known me for any length of time knows that chelonians (broad way to group turtles…read moreand tortoises together... they're different, people!) are my spirit animal, and I've wanted one as a pet for a very very very long time. After a lot of research about all things tortoise and acquiring/assembling my set up, I decided that just buying a tortoise from a store wasn't an option. It was captive bred or adoption. A captive bred situation didn't work out and I stumbled upon Eden Animal Sanctuary (and Manfred!) with a Craig's List search. They're a chelonian specific rescue that operates on a private property. They rehabilitate surrendered turtles/tortoises and find the PERFECT homes for them, if they're considered adoptable. Filled out an "I'm interested" form on AdoptAPet.com and FB messaged the sanctuary (https://www.facebook.com/edenanimalsanctuary), letting them know that I'd submitted the form. Rachel responded to my message within minutes, sending me the adoption application and asking for pictures of my set up. The application was long and very thorough. I was a little nervous filling it out, even though I knew that Manfred belonged with me and that I could give him an amazing life (and that I'm going to have to put him in my will because he will likely outlive me). Then the waiting began. I was anxiously prepared to wait over a weekend (as I'd sent in the application on a Thursday evening), but, on Friday afternoon, I received an email saying that I'd been approved! I may or may not have danced around like an idiot for the rest of the day. Just kidding, I totally did. The following Saturday, a couple friends and I made our way to an adoption event in Spring Branch, where the rescue had a presence. I had no difficulty ignoring all the adoptable dogs (not usually the case with me) at the event as I made my way to the turtle/tortoise table. I knew it was my Manfred the moment I saw him. I chatted with Rachel a little bit and filled out his adoption form, promising to return him to the sanctuary if I could no longer care for him. I was also able to meet a couple of the other chelonians from the rescue, including a teenaged sulcata named Radar and three box turtles. I paid my adoption fee (donations and adoption fees go towards building habitats and caring for the chelonians) and skipped away with my new, best reptile buddy. All in all, I can't recommend Eden Animal Sanctuary enough. It's obvious to me that Rachel loves what she does and loves the animals even more.
