The clinic was scheduled from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM. I arrived around 8:30, and as expected for a free event, the lines were long--but honestly, that's understandable when such valuable services are offered at no cost. One of the great things was that there was no limit to the number of animals you could bring. Once I got there, I was greeted by friendly staff who gave me paperwork to complete. A staff member kindly informed me that the process could take a while, which I appreciated. I ended up waiting in line for about four hours. If I had known ahead of time, I definitely would have brought snacks and water to help pass the time--but I was fine overall. Before they took my puppy back, they thoroughly explained the procedure and all the services included: the spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchipping, and preventative medications. Talk about saving money! They promised to take great care of him, and I felt reassured as they carried him back. Around 4:30 PM, I received a call to pick him up. He looked good at first, but as I drove down the highway, I noticed some bleeding. I turned around and rushed back to the clinic. The staff explained that male dogs can be a little more sensitive due to the number of blood vessels involved, and it wasn't unusual. They immediately took him back, cleaned him up, and made sure he was okay. One of the amazing volunteers even helped me clean the blood off my car and blankets--who knew peroxide worked so well? Once home, I noticed his microchip had started to migrate out. I texted the number they provided, and they told me to bring him back in for a check-up. I did just that two days later, and he was given a clean bill of health. They were quick, responsive, and made sure everything was taken care of. They also mentioned that they host these events frequently. If you're considering getting your pets spayed or neutered, I absolutely recommend bringing them here. The wait can be long, but the care and services are worth it. They treat your fur babies with love and compassion, and you leave knowing your pet got the attention they needed. Thank you to the entire team for your patience, hard work, and dedication. Look out for more free spay and neuter clinics it will save you tons

My baby had worms that they just "didn't notice" from March... it's MAY and they REFUSE to give him $20 dewormer. They're stingy and horrible people that don't care for the health of their animals. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHELTER FOR ADOPTING, THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU CURE THINGS THEY GOT IN THE SHELTER. THEIR 311 NUMBER KNOWS NOTHING. IDIOTS. Thank god I rescued my angel from that horrible place. 1/10. Only not 0 because I found my angel there.

Anyhoo, I love them. 1) They're just so darn caring. We met them yeeeeears ago when we lived across the street from their OG location. They were always SO warm and welcoming when we walked in and so helpful finding our baby Jake the right kind of food. 2) Speaking of, they carry the BEST food, treats, toys and bath products for our now two dogs! Psst... they have cat stuff too. 3) Did I mention they are so darned caring? We just went to visit their new spot located right next door to the best vet ever - Paz. Our new rescue dog has been eating grass and apparently not getting enough nutrients so after visiting Paz, we went next door to get some recos from our trusted friends at Prime Pet. Of course, they knew what to send us home with. We picked up some new grub, the boys picked out a couple of treats that smelled good to them (ahem, it all smelled good to them) and we also picked up an adorable squeaky toy that resembles mama's favorite treat - a bottle of Tito's Vodka. ;) I highly recommend making Prime Pet your go-to for pet supplies. If they don't have something you want, let them know! They're also taking all the precautions during COVID so you can be sure you feel safe when shopping. If you don't want to shop in-person, they offer curbside and same-day area delivery. Bonus: if you're lucky, your pup might even get featured on their Instagram @primepetaustin!

Eden Animal Sanctuary - Manfred, homecoming!

    Eden Animal Sanctuary

Anyone that has known me for any length of time knows that chelonians (broad way to group turtles…read moreand tortoises together... they're different, people!) are my spirit animal, and I've wanted one as a pet for a very very very long time. After a lot of research about all things tortoise and acquiring/assembling my set up, I decided that just buying a tortoise from a store wasn't an option. It was captive bred or adoption. A captive bred situation didn't work out and I stumbled upon Eden Animal Sanctuary (and Manfred!) with a Craig's List search. They're a chelonian specific rescue that operates on a private property. They rehabilitate surrendered turtles/tortoises and find the PERFECT homes for them, if they're considered adoptable. Filled out an "I'm interested" form on AdoptAPet.com and FB messaged the sanctuary (https://www.facebook.com/edenanimalsanctuary), letting them know that I'd submitted the form. Rachel responded to my message within minutes, sending me the adoption application and asking for pictures of my set up. The application was long and very thorough. I was a little nervous filling it out, even though I knew that Manfred belonged with me and that I could give him an amazing life (and that I'm going to have to put him in my will because he will likely outlive me). Then the waiting began. I was anxiously prepared to wait over a weekend (as I'd sent in the application on a Thursday evening), but, on Friday afternoon, I received an email saying that I'd been approved! I may or may not have danced around like an idiot for the rest of the day. Just kidding, I totally did. The following Saturday, a couple friends and I made our way to an adoption event in Spring Branch, where the rescue had a presence. I had no difficulty ignoring all the adoptable dogs (not usually the case with me) at the event as I made my way to the turtle/tortoise table. I knew it was my Manfred the moment I saw him. I chatted with Rachel a little bit and filled out his adoption form, promising to return him to the sanctuary if I could no longer care for him. I was also able to meet a couple of the other chelonians from the rescue, including a teenaged sulcata named Radar and three box turtles. I paid my adoption fee (donations and adoption fees go towards building habitats and caring for the chelonians) and skipped away with my new, best reptile buddy. All in all, I can't recommend Eden Animal Sanctuary enough. It's obvious to me that Rachel loves what she does and loves the animals even more.
