I cannot recommend this artist.
Long and short of it is that Brynne messed up my tattoo, charged me a lot of money for it, and refused to give me any back.
Tl;dr because it's a long review:
Really expensive.
Charges per piece, so you have to pay at the first appointment.
Lacks attention to detail.
You don't get to see the design until the appointment.
I initially commissioned Brynne to do two full forearm sleeves. I booked in February for appointments starting in July. Knowing what I know now, what I wanted was not her style. I shouldn't have booked her to do this design, I can say that now. But it is the artist's responsibility to know what she is capable of or excels in doing and should state so. I told her what I was thinking in our initial discussion -- some sort of geometric pattern, and she was fine with it.
We went back and forth, and I give her commendation on excellent communication via email. I was happy to wait the five months until the first appointment because I had looked at her posted pieces and thought the roughly quoted prices spoke of the quality of work she performed, so I booked and paid a deposit.
I had some concerns with her attention to detail after the first appointment, but the major issues really began at the second appointment to cover the underside and around the outer arm. I had drawn up an idea of what I was thinking and she pretty much went with that. I'm not really sure where things went wrong here, but they went super wrong. I'm not sure what she was envisioning with how this piece was to connect or work with the already existing piece she did, but I do not think it was well executed. The bigger issue is that she mislaid the stencil and the geometric pattern got misaligned. Badly. And there were areas where the lines weren't straight or even.
But she had other customers there at the close of the appointment, so I paid and emailed her about it later. She acknowledged it and agreed to work on an idea of how to fix it. I already knew at this point that I was not having her work on my other arm, but what was the tipping point for me was that I asked her to send me a mock up of what she was thinking to fix it and I received a response she could do that but it may be a day or two beforehand "haha". Um. How can you be so cavalier about messing up someone's arm?
At that point, I emailed her back and cancelled our remaining appointments for my other arm. I told her that I had lost trust in her and I asked her for a partial refund and the return of my deposit. She replied back, explaining that it was against her policies -- which, to be fair, she includes in every email. But what's the policy when you mess up someone's tattoo and they're going to have to either get laser treatment or a coverup to fix it?
I never did get that mock up, but I knew this wasn't a battle worth fighting. I came back for a final appointment and let her wrap up the tattoo. She did attempt to fix the pattern and the connection to the existing tattoo, as well as go over every area I had an issue with, but I knew going in it wasn't going to be good. The result is in the attached pictures.
Let me finish with the cost of this: I paid $2,000 for the tattoos themselves and $300 for a deposit. Again, I received no refund. I sat in this artist's chair for maybe a total of 8 hours (and that's a high estimate). So, effectively her rate is over $250 an hour. For what? This? I honestly feel ripped off. So much money for someone to scrawl on my arm like a child does on a wall.
She looks like she does some beautiful work. I did include a picture of the first piece, which I do like. But overall, I am very disappointed. I will never go back. read more
