Macarons

Didn't realize there was a La Duree in Dublin! We did not plan to treat ourselves here, but my sweet tooth could not turn down the opportunity. The shop is cozy; all of their beautiful pastries greet you front and center when you walk in. There is a small area to dine in the back, and since it wasn't crowded at all we were able to sit as a party of 6! Our group's favorites were the fraisier, the ispahan, and earl grey tea. Try to go earlier in the day so you have your pick of the lot- once they sell out of pastry in the display case, that's it for the day! Would love to come back here. A great experience for a fraction of the stress/chaos in their shop in Paris.

4/12/23- found this by accident. The quality is as good as we have had in LA, USA; Paris, France; London; England and now Dublin, Ireland. This place was dead inside and no line. It was great!!! Plenty of seats inside as well. Check out a few photos. Highly suggest to go here if you can.

The rudest service ever!!! Came earlier in the week and most pleasant service. Today it acted if they wanted to get rid of us. Was here trying to buy a box to take home and they seemed to want and shush us away. You only get a free macaroon if it is to go. My daughter wanted her Cap in a real cup. So I had to order one to go land one for here. How ridiculous!!!

Exquisite. Decadent. Gorgeous. Devine. Classy. These words describe this adorable space perfectly. My friend and I were walking the streets of Dublin and came across this little tea room. With all of the perfectly crafted and displayed treats in the window, we had to stop in. I'm not a huge macaroon fan so I indulged in a Carmel pastry. I paired it with a hot cup of black tea and creamer. I've never had an experience quite like this one. You MUST stop by if you're in the area. I felt like a queen for about 45 minutes. They have everything your tastebuds desire and gorgeous gift boxes to take home. The staff is incredibly nice and attentive despite the heavy foot traffic. You are sure to fall in love with this inspired princess doll house interior. Kid and family friendly. Clean restrooms and free WiFi. What a charming experience!

I am a huge fan of Laduree for many years and have eaten their macarons many a time. They represent perfection in macaron making. This place used to be in Brown Thomas but they now have their own store. The service here is ordinary but the macarons are great. I love the salted caramel ones the most and stop in and buy every time I come across one of their stores.

I'm one of Those People who will visit a Laduree whenever they stumble upon one. The six-pack macaron boxes make great storage containers for Sharpies, so I've accumulated quite a collection. Admittedly, I don't go gaga for macarons, but I will do criminal things for a Saint Honoré (a pastry tower of cream puffs, icing, and berries topped with a single rose petal). I was crestfallen to find the Dublin location bereft of Saint Honorés... and for that matter many of their little opera cakes and tarts. I don't know if they got hit with a deluge of cake-gobbling tourists shortly before my arrival, but the selection consisted of a few sad looking Napoleons. (And I have had and enjoyed Laudree Napoleons, only that these Dubliner ones were looking a little ragged). The macaron selection, however, was complete. I got a commemorative box to go and munched on the 'rons as I wandered the city. Pleasant but nothing special. It's a small, cute location bedecked in your standard Laudree garb - lots of gold filigree, marble, and gilded mirrors. The store was empty, so I was free to waft all the outlandishly fancy 50 Euro candles without too much judgement. Worth a visit if you've never been to a Laudree but, if you're looking for something sit-down, I'd suggest you find a mom-and-pop tea room.

Visited late in the afternoon (5:30pm) for a tea and tart. I ordered at the counter, and the server asked me to sit wherever I pleased, so I chose a seat next to the window. The server brought everything out, and it looked amazing. Between the lovely decor in the restaurant, and the beautiful plate and cup I was served with, everything was so pretty. It reminded me of how a little girl would set up her perfect tea party. The tea was great, as was the tart. It's a shame that I ordered the last tart, because it was so delicious, I would have ordered another to take home with me had there been more left. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is because the service wasn't great. After dropping the food off, the server was nowhere to be found. Eventually I finished, and went to the cash register to pay, but found the cashier (was not the lady who served me) was a bit moody. Disappointing way to end an otherwise perfect visit. A bit pricey at approximately €20.

New Ladurée on South William Street!

New Ladurée shop open on the corner of South William Street and Exchequer Street! It's absolutely stunning and worth a visit as the decor is so beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful and of course, the macarons are delicious! There is a seated area in the back to the left of the counter with gorgeous purple velvet seats and lovely crisp clean white tables to sit and enjoy a coffee and some macarons. I don't really think this place can be faulted aside from their prices, which is fair enough. You feel like royalty in here and every last touch is done to perfection.

Always the best! Always perfect!!! I had the famous chocolate drink A chocolate croissant Ordered the eggs Benedict and Kira was my server, so sweet. Taking a box of macaroons back to USA for my son Chocolates for me. Everything was perfect. I've been to the ones in London, Paris and NYC But so far Dublin has been my favorite location.

Came here on a chilly January day after a walk. The staff were pretty pleasant but I ordered hot chocolate and an Americano. The Americano was placed on the counter but was left waiting for the hot chocolate so I stood there waiting. They were a bit surprised I was still standing at the till but the issue was rectified quickly. Just a small detail really I guess. Delicious macarons and hot chocolate. The coffee is also pretty decent! I love how it's decorated! Beautiful transformation of this location. It's pretty stunning in fairness and the seats are comfortable. I'd say it's quite cosy when the fire in that part is lighting. It was difficult to choose macarons but went with salted caramel and spiced fruit. Both were really tasty. Will definitely be back (who knows? maybe next time it'll be a five!)

The afternoon tea with hot chocolate

I came in for afternoon tea & had an amazing time. I got the hot chocolate instead of the tea, and it was amazingly rich. The rise cake was super moist & full of flavor. Of course the macarons were all to die for. On top of the amazing food, the staff was super attentive & friendly. I only wish there was one closer to me!

I stopped at Ladurée with my mom and sister on our recent visit to Dublin. We are huge fans of the Ladurée shops in New York so we were excited to dodge the rain and enjoy some macaroons. The shop is quaint and a great place to enjoy some dessert and a cup of tea. We tried the rose petal, lemon & orange blossom macaroons. They were all great, but the rose petal was by far our favorite.

Overpriced. Staff rude .. to be fair mainly one guy. Two stars since they are still the best macaroons you can get in Dublin.

Dublin doesn't have a huge variety of ice cream/gelato options so Amorino is a great addition. They tell you you can get as many flavors as you want, which is a dangerous game for me. They have a lot of cup sizes to choose from. I kept it pretty tame and went with a medium size cup of straciatella, chocolate, and blueberry cheesecake. I loved all of these flavors. The chocolate was super rich and the real cream cheese in the blueberry cheesecake shined through. I wished there was more chocolate flakes in the straciatella - it was basically just a fresh and creamy vanilla. My husband got a daisy cone. They craft the ice cream into a flower. It's a cute gimmick, but I feel like you get more bang for your buck when you go for a cup. Plus, I'm not crazy about cones. Prices are pretty high, but with no better alternatives at the moment, we'll continue to come here for a special treat.

Not a lot of sitting space, but since it's in a shopping centre and very close to a number of public hangouts and tourist attractions, not a lot of sitting space is needed. There's no way to mince words here: they are overpriced. Granted, I am Canadian so it could be that I wasn't used to European prices, but I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the fact that they know many people passing through the doors are tourists who are willing to pay more than locals (or don't know better). For example, adding a standard-sized macaron to your ice cream cost 2 Euro; at my local Farmer's Market, where things tend to be pricey, a single macaron of the same size is 2 Canadian dollars. It's a discrepancy of about a dollar or half a Euro. That said, their gelato, sorbet, and macarons are all amazing. Both times I visited I got a medium-sized cone; admittedly, I loved the chocolate gelato/raspberry sorbet option so much that I got it twice, both times with a chocolate macaron. Beautiful presentation, as the "petals" are arranged into a flower and the macaron is placed firmly on top. Perfect on an unexpectedly hot day. tl;dr expensive but great atmosphere and food.

Amuse bouche to begin - caramelised pistachio, cauliflower purée and lime / coconut foam on top. Lovely way to start. I chose gambas in a satay sauce for my starter. No rib eye beef on that day but they had venison which I settled on for my main. Dessert I had the champagne rhubarb which was delicious. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. I stuck with prosecco which was v nice and freshly opened. Great service is a v nice setting. All made for a pleasant and relaxed lunch. Staying on the list to return for dinner.

Had their autumn tasting menu here for dinner which cost €65/pp. I must say that it is worth every single euro you pay. The food here is immaculate. Started of with a cauliflower purée for amouse bouche which wasn't too bad. Warm but thought it lacked a little seasoning. Then they also served us bread which I felt was really stale and was so tough to eat. Thought the dinner was going to be disappointing but it turned tables when the first appetiser came out and continued scaling. - Salmon (was suppose to be razor clams but they said the weather was bad so couldn't get them. Sad) with mussels. The ingredients were so fresh and the salmon was seasoned so so so well. The burst of flavours in your mouth was foorgasmic combined with its texture. Then the mussels gave its own taste of freshness from the sea. - Then we had a tuna sashimi over a bed of tuna tartare and a yoghurt jelly at the bottom. Like always, the fish was so incredibly fresh and sweet. Together with the yoghurt jelly at the bottom was a perfect harmony smooth texture. It wasn't the best dish, but it was still pretty average. I'm just really satisfied the fish was really fresh. - For main course, we had the cod with their soy sauce on top of a creamed sushi rice. Hands down the best cod fish I've eaten. Incredibly seasoned and cooked well. Soft and slightly translucent meat with a really nice crisp of the outer texture. The fish just melts in your mouth. With that addition of soy sauce, it pushed it above its perfect score of 100. Freshness of the cod together with the cucumber. - We also then had a chicken roulade with mushrooms. It was suppose to be beef cheeks and again, I was slightly disappointed. But I think the restaurant put you down to only bring you up again. The perfect soft pillow texture to the chicken meat was amazing. And like always seasoned so well and also once again crisp-Ing the skin of the chicken. You can feel the chicken fats just melting on your tongue and opening that pandora box to your flavours. The mushrooms were also so good! I really wished there were more than 2 miserable pieces though. - Ending desserts with a coffee mousse covered in dark chocolate and a ball of chocolate. The coffee was just right at its concentration together with its chocolate. I thought this dessert actually had too much going on on the plate itself. And maybe a tinge too much of gelatin that caused some of the panna cotta to be pretty hard. But overall a very good experience here. The chef is really good with different textures and bringing opposite flavours together. Definitely my new favourite restaurant in Dublin.

The most exciting thing, I have to admit, were the discounted mini tarts at the end of the day - only €1.75 each! These would cost $6 or $7 each where I live in San Francisco, plus you can feel relatively guilt-free about buying a few as you're helping to avoid food waste! I bought three and especially liked the raspberry tart and the pear-raspberry. Had an oat milk flat white too (made with Ariosa coffee beans) and thought it was very good. The server was very friendly and helpful too. I'm also giving Hansel and Gretel Bakery & Patisserie 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: Good quality baked items made from fresh ingredients; Coffee beans are from local micro roaster, Ariosa, which has some direct trade and organic offerings; pantry items for sale that support progressive local food companies; Hansel and Gretel has run bake sales to support charitable causes; discounted items at the end of the day helps avoid food waste. Items for improvement: Would be nice to see some vegan items - pastry and cakes made with vegan butter such as Naturl'i (available at Dunnes Stores) is just as good as pastry made from butter. It would also be good to see some tables in or outside the café that would then allow them to use ceramic cups instead of disposable cups. More vegetarian and vegan savory items would be good too (it was close to the end of the say so perhaps hard to judge). Please join the Green Stars Project movement by including an ethical rating with your own reviews!
