They decorate it beautifully annually for the holidays, opting to create a manual tree versus damaging the beautiful large trees with lights. The park is really kept very well... I am around all the time, and there's never a speck of trash. There's a local coffee shop right there, and the library. There are many food spots as well. My point is, grab a cup of coffee and a good book... or just go play on the swings with your kiddos.

In return, we give back: annual trash pickups, painting over graffiti, planting native trees and shrubs, installing plaques, etc. It's a great partnership. We utilize the trails to ID plants, analyze water quality in Cedar Creek, catch insects, use the field for large activities... It's really helpful. Plus, there's a decent bathroom and a great play structure if we finish a lesson early.

My husband was actually very ambitious and constructed a crawdad trap, but I think the hook works just as well. My youngest boy is obsessed with fishing so this provided hours of entertainment and a nice outing for father and son. This is a very natural park that was created in a flood plane. No playgrounds here. Just a park with wetlands and a prairie with natural grass for walking your dog, jogging, fishing or launching your canoe or kayak from the pier. Great birdwatching as well. The city was able to buy up a lot of riverfront property (due to said flood plane) so over the past five years the park has continued to expand. It was a very smart move since the Tualatin River flooded the banks at least four times in the ten years I lived in the neighborhood and water would extend all the way to (or across) Nyberg Lane. This park is also the site of a wonderful arts camp for kids, Willowbrook, in the summer months and Alder Creek operates a canoe and kayak rental from Memorial Day through Labor Day. West Lake Park is the answer. The playground is covered, with equipment for both toddlers and big kids. There is a bathroom about thirty feet from the play structure, hallelujah! The picnic area is also amazing. There are 4 covered tables with a buffet counter lining a wall, and along this counter there are 3 outlets, meaning you can set up your crock pot, and plug it in. There is additional table or two near the covered 4, if you're looking to get a large group together and it isn't raining. There is also a huge, well kept, athletic field joined with the play ground, that is open for running on. There are water fountains too. This is the best laid out park I've ever been to. If you're looking to host a party, this is where you should do it!

Great park for kids | water play & events…read more This is an excellent place to let your kids, of all ages, go and get their energy out. It's right across the street from the library, which is also another great family-friendly place to frequent. If you're a mom looking to find places where you can let your kids play and get out of the house, this is your spot. There is a little library stand where people can pick a book and give another in return. I love these because it really adds to the sense of community and help share the love for learning/reading. The first play set is more for the younger kids, up to 5 yrs old. The second play set is more for the 5-12yr olds, but as long as you're watching your baby in the bigger kid area, you'll be fine. One thing I like is the seesaw because kids work together to accomplish the seesaw effect. It's a hit! Another great feature is the super long slide! Kids love this as well. They're currently doing construction at the park, adding another neat structure and should be done soon. A few hundred feet away are two bucket swings. I like that the flooring is the recycled rubber unlike the main play area with tan bark. I wish the parks in town didn't have tan bark. It gets everywhere, mushrooms grow in it, and you get splinters. During the summer, you'll see the splash pad turned on for kids to enjoy. It's a great way to have fun outside cooling down from hot summer heat. A lot of kids walk on top of those big blocks and it makes me nervous, so I recommend this for older kids. If you have younger kids, I recommend the Korean Memorial Park splash pad.
