There's also a climbing wall, zip line kinda thing, and a really big sand lot with a volcano-kinda thing in the middle that is deceptively difficult to walk up because the sand makes it slippery! PLUS there's a splash pad water fountain wet area! That part is not open year round. I mean it's open, but the fountains aren't running in the winter. All this is surrounded by covered picnic tables, very large grassy areas, walking paths covered by trees. Car parking. Bicycle parking. Clean bathrooms. Friendly clientele. We entered from the east side of the park where there is pedestrian access. On the west side of the park near the vehicle entrance, there is a skate park! And 4 half basketball courts, plus a boulder, I guess for bouldering.

A slide that was cracked 2 years ago now has a sharp half edge at the bottom while the other half is missing. The pad under the equipment is torn to hell and needs to be replaced. All the swings except 1 work and that's my daughter's favorite things. Much like the dilapidated and old park near the aquatic center rather than remove the broken crap they leave it for kids. There are potholes in the mat under equipment everywhere. Its a dangerous hazard. The actual jungle gym is nice, but everything else is garbage. Moss and mud are underneath things. Someone needs to fully repair the ground, change the underneath to chips maybe, replace the swings, replace the slide and add the seat back to the helicopter. Evergreen is a shithole and this eye sore is no good for my daughter. Talk about a company that doesn't care.

We learned about Erratic Rock State Natural Area when looking at a map of what to check out while…read morein the area, and it's easy to miss if you're not looking out for it. But once you do find it, it will be a nice side trip from all the wine tasting. My partner and I visited Erratic Rock State Natural Area and followed Google Maps for directions. But when Google said we reached our destination, all we saw were private residences and one of those residences had a sign that said you are not at Erratic Rock State Natural Area AKA don't come to this house! We then backtracked where we were and finally saw the sign pointing to the natural area, which led up to a grassy walkway along a vineyard. We then noticed across from the entrance was room for a few cars to park along the side of the road. After parking and entering the site, there was some information about the erratic rocks making their way here from the Missoula flood, which gave good background. Along the trail, you will steadily walk up 200 yards to where the erratic rocks are, and there's a nice view of the area from there. It's an easy walk up to see some historical, geological shapes that are telling of our landscape. Just take a break from all that wine and visit!

While visiting McMinnville we stopped at a park by the library and it stated that dogs were not…read moreallowed so we looked online at the Parks and Rec website and were directed to the Riverside Dog Park. The first section had bark ground covering and a few trees and benches. I am not comfortable with my dogs walking on bark because of the possible splinter factor and it just doesn't seem as comfortable. So we walked farther on to the grassy area which was a lot nicer but it didn't have many trees and there were no benches to sit at. There were a few places for dogs to get drinks and a couple of plastic pools to take a doggie dip in. There were large trash receptacles which were a welcome sight. A lot of parking out front and a potter potty nearby if needed.

Fort Yamhill was an American military fortification in the state of Oregon. Built in 1856 in the Oregon Territory, it remained an active post until 1866. The Army outpost was used to provide a presence next to the Grand Ronde Agency Coastal Reservation. Several officers stationed at the United States Army post prior to the American Civil War would later serve as generals in that war. Interesting little historical park.

We are lucky to have many great parks in the area, but Galen McBee is one of my very favorites. It…read moreis unique as far as parks go, in fact I would call it more of a nature walk or short hike. There is a fair amount of parking, not lots, but I have never seen it very busy. It is a popular spot for dogs too, but honestly, the trails are long enough that we rarely encounter many other visitors. It is simply a lovely wooded ramble, verdant with ferns and trees, thimbleberries, trillium, a trickling creek complet with bridge, mushrooms growing all over.....Speaking of which, one of the best parts of this park is a giant moss-covered mushroom house you can walk right in to! It is freaking adorable, and I don't know how it isn't this area's Instagram go-to. There are also other neat sculptures (no longer running water fountains but still pretty!) to discover as you meander the path, plus benches and picnic tables too. Near the end there is an area where the trail breaks off into a couple different off shoots, and I swear the first time we visited we chose the wrong path 3 or 4 times, so we kept ending up in the same spot! Basically, it loops around the outskirts of the park, and then to leave you take a path through the interior. Head toward the area that goes down to the creek, and you'll be out in no time. Overall, this is a special spot to enjoy nature. It feels much larger than it is, and is a great escape, even from McMinnville, a not-so-big little city.
