I came to this emergency department on January 23, 2026 for a severe asthma exacerbation. Despite…read morevisible wheezing and difficulty breathing, I waited a prolonged period without receiving a breathing treatment. The physician (Dr. James Mead ) I encountered was dismissive, argumentative, and lacked basic compassion during a medical emergency. At one point, Dr. Meade cut me off while I was asking for the treatment and said, "And You're still alive," which was shocking, completely inappropriate given that I was struggling to breathe and seeking emergency care. My condition worsened due to stress and delayed care. Dr. Meade became explosive and dismissive. He stood outside my room saying Loudly and Rudely told me, "You can leave ! . "If you don't like our services here, you can leave." I was shocked and completely taken back .He was my physician, and I could not believe this was happening. He told me "You can leave and go to HonorHealth Urgent Care." When I asked why--because I needed treatment ; he threatened to call security. At that point I realized this was not the right hospital or physician for me. I was scared because I could not breathe, and his behavior made me feel like he did not care about my wellbeing. I genuinely feared I could die in that hospital and never see my family or community again. I de-escalated the situation and told him I would leave. He then sat back down at the computer outside my room. He made the decision to have me leave rather than treat me appropriately. I went to another ER immediately afterward and received prompt care. This experience left me feeling unsafe, and I would not return. My driver was outside, and I had to leave quickly to go to another ER. At the next hospital, my vitals were taken immediately, I received needed treatment, and an x-ray was completed. I will never step foot in this hospital again. It is very sad because other staff there have treated me well in the past, but this experience was completely different. As a community volunteer, I will also warn others to be cautious if they encounter Dr. Meade and my experience at Fountain Hills ER. I understand that as healthcare workers we are all dealing with extreme staffing shortages and high stress, especially in a small community. However, that does not excuse Dr. Meade's professional misconduct, negligence, unprofessional behavior, incompetence, treatment delay , and ethical issues. His behavior was completely unnecessary and unacceptable. Dr. Meade should be required to take additional training in bedside manner, professional communication, and patient care standards. No patient seeking emergency care--especially while struggling to breathe; should be treated with hostility, intimidation, or threats. I volunteer with three strong organizations in the Fountain Hills community and also serve in disaster response throughout the greater Arizona region. I am a Health Care Worker as well . If ALL emergency responders or healthcare workers behaved the way Dr. Meade did that day, the public would lose trust in the very systems meant to protect them. I am grateful that I took the initiative to leave and go to HonorHealth Scottsdale ER, where I received immediate and appropriate care. Honestly, directing me to competent professionals was the only helpful thing Dr. Meade did during that encounter.

I am ending my relationship with this office after more than 20 years. Can't believe how far it has…read morefallen since the days Dr. Hummel ran the practice. I am the only one left in my family of 6 that has stuck with them. The providers here don't have the patients best interests in mind...they want your insurance and copay dollars. They are unhelpful. For example, the dr I saw refused to combine a simple blood test to keep me from being stuck twice. They just do not care if you pay two venipuncture fees, if you struggle to find a way to get to the appointment, if you miss work, if you can't afford to pay twice- and obviously - not every one enjoys needles- they do not care - and they should!! I am giving two stars because their call center has really turned things around and they are really good. The providers are disappointing.

If there was a way to give them negative stars, I would do it. My husband has been going to this…read morepractice for 10 years. I changed to the practice last year due to insurance not covering my previous provider. Wow - was that ever a huge mistake. Dr. Kimberly Klatt is very hands-off, clinical, uncaring and as others have mentioned, this practice only cares about money. Recently my husband called for an appointment to be seen for a sinus infection. When he arrived, they notified him they no longer took our insurance but if he wanted to be seen he could pay out of pocket. Since he needed to see someone he paid them $175 for the office visit. A few days later, he learned that they filed a claim with our insurance! During the same week, I needed to get a referral to a specialist. Dr. Klatt refused to give me a referral since I was "no longer in network" unless I came in and paid the $175 office visit. When we complained to the billing department, they said we are in network, but the office and referrals depts say we aren't. Our insurance said they are! Every time we tried to talk to someone in the Fountain Hills office they were rude and uncaring. We never received a letter from them telling us that they were no longer in our network- and they insisted "But you should have received one!" Yep - we should have. Should have received a lot better care too. Whatever you do, go somewhere else!

It gave me a sense of family/peace. We had to interact with admissions, nursing, business office, chef, and the reception desk ( they were comforting and loving on bad nights) and the case manager. He had a stroke and is non-verbal, so he is easily ignored and not being taken care. My family and I have to clip his nails/toenails, cut his hair(hair stylist/barber doesn't do her job right), AND we wash his clothes/blankets(items have been missing right after we buy them), and we buy him his hygiene and SNACKS. I believe they are discriminating him because he is a Native American male. We, native Americans, are ignored and brushed off everyday, so it is very hard to be heard. He needs better care to improve his health. He's my only grandpa and I want the best treatment for him. Wouldn't you want the same for your family? Do BETTER FOUNTAIN HILLS POST ACUTE!!!!!
