TLDR: food: más o menos, management: tan mal The waiter we had was great and my parents and I were having a relaxing time, but then we were faced with one of the most atrocious experiences I've had on vacation. The manager here is reprehensible. We ate over the consumption limit 1200 pesos of their 800 pesos to be exact and asked to be seated by the beach. Once we were assigned and got comfortable, a few minutes later a different server came over and told us we needed to move. Then we moved to neighboring spot, and the manager came and kicked us out again. I find it beyond rude to move paying guests multiple times and I told the manager that I found it to be racist to replace my spot that I was given with a young Caucasian couple. Please do better. After speaking with Erika the manager for 20 minutes, she didn't offer any compensation and wanted me to tell her what I want, because she had already found me a great spot after moving us twice. I want you to treat your guests better. Your miscommunication amongst your servers should never be blamed on your guests and you should find a solution to make your guests happy not ask them what they want after you made things very uncomfortable and after I've already paid. Maybe offer a full refund after you had made things so terrible. Intention doesn't matter as much as the result. There are plenty of better beach clubs nearby! Ziggy's, Coco, even the ultra elitist ones will not treat guests that have ALREADY paid with SUCH disdainful service. Stay far, far away until the manager is fired. Please be warned. read more

We had a wonderful time at La Zebra on the beach on one of the cozy couches overlooking the ocean and the food was incredible. The drinks tasty, but were a little on the weak side and the service was really gracious. It did take about 20 to 25 minutes each time we ordered a drink or food to get it delivered to us, so that's the only reason I took away a star, but other than that this place was beautiful and it's hard to get a bed when you're not staying at the hotel, but we managed to get one that fit 4 of us perfectly. Unfortunately it was right by where an ATV kept passing through to remove sea sargasm and kicked up sand on us about 50 times, but they finally slowed down and we really loved the place. Not too crowded or crazy like some of the other spots in Tulum. Very upscale! read more

Tl;dr it's par for the location, which is to say, overpriced food ie you're paying for the location. But the location is stellar! Ambiance 5/5: right on the beach, lovely views. It's also a great place to bring kids including small children. They are very accommodating and have an outdoor play place where kids can play during or before/after a meal, a kids menu. But there are many adults dining without children and they tended to be seated away from the kids area, which made their meals more enjoyable I'm sure. If mosquitos are out, come prepared, but I don't think that's typically a problem except after heavy rainfall. Food 3/5: we had a number of entrees and small plates, and ordered for the kids off the kids menu. Kids food is exactly what you'd hope for and expect. For the main menu, everything was very nicely presented. The flavors were lacking and flat. Most notably, the Cochinita Pibil was way overly salty and lacking other flavors. Hate to say I've had better in a few major US cities. The tortillas were solid though. Overall lacking in flavor and complexity given the price point and how the restaurant markets itself. Drinks were ok, the Mezcal old fashioned was a highlight. Service 4/5: Servers weren't highly attentive, had to search for someone to settle up and for a number of other small things. But they were very kind and knew the menu well. Easy place to dine if you speak no Spanish. read more

Just returned from a week at La Zebra and I would 1000% recommend it. What I liked: -location, location, location on a pristine white sand beach -all staff from housekeepers to servers were excellent..friendly, unobtrusive, and on top of things -juan carlos at the front desk was especially helpful. he checked us and and provided advice from a local throughout the week. always friendly and checking in to see what we've been up to as we come and go. -it's a small property with no undesirable rooms. first floor rooms have plunge pools, but i recommend 2nd floor for the incredible views from the balcony -the onsite restaurant is killer.. as much as we liked to go out and try new places, we had breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks at the restaurant and each meal rivaled off-site eats -generally on the quieter side day and especially at night (important!) -the little things: complimentary margaritas upon check-in, the rooms smell fantastic, and tea + chocolate was delivered each evening read more

We just had a fantastic dinner and show for taco Thursday. We went at the recommendation of our hotel. $950 Mexican dollars for all you can eat tacos, and dessert. I'll be honest, I thought it was a bit pricey, and I knew I could not eat enough tacos to justify the price, but it was so much more than dinner. We arrived at 6 PM, which was a bit on the early side. We started with cocktails and a round of tacos. Both were incredible! I think there are about 16 different types of tacos to choose from. All were well-made and hearty. The show started around 7:15 PM and we heard excellent music and saw a fun Lucha libre performance. They brought my boyfriend and I on stage to dance and had me spin a wheel where I won a shot of Mexican brandy to finish off the night. We stayed almost 3 hours, and loved every minute! The night was also a big success due to our server, Fernando, who took excellent care of us! I would highly recommend visiting the spot! read more

Favorite beach spot in Tulum. The service was phenomenal, despite it being a packed beach on a Sunday. Our waiter, Beto, was very attentive, friendly and with a positive attitude. Our drinks and food came to our cabana right away and the manager even gave us shots on the house. The music was also great, and the vibe was awesome. The food was delicious, especially the grill they have on Saturdays. To anyone looking where to hang out in Tulum, this place has it all- even showers and clean restrooms for your convenience. If I'm ever back, I'll make sure this is a spot to visit again. read more

we had such an amazing stay at La Zebra! we checked in and our room wasn't ready yet but they took our bags and we hung out at the beach club all day. we ordered drinks, food and had complimentary towels. the fish tacos here are BOMB definitely get them. the lychee margaritas were my go to here our room was super cute but no tv but who needs a tv when you're at a beautiful hotel! we had a plunge pool as well which i had no idea can also be a hot tub! it was so fun to be in with a nice cigar especially bc it gets a little chilly at night this was a great location as well, right near matcha mama and la corriente a great restaurant. highly recommend this place! read more

My review is for Mulberry Project which is the beach bar in front part of La Zebra. It is the best bar concept I've ever seen and I've worked in bars for 27 years and owned one for 6. There are directions on the ceiling that show you how to order a custom cocktail every time. There are so many choices that I ended up thinking about my order before I returned because it was that hard to pick one of their delicious concoctions ! All the bartenders were fabulous! Elliot and Ben, and two women I didn't catch names of. Every drink I had was out of this world and they were so friendly and entertaining! This is a great place to meet good people! I think it's ideal for a solo traveler because of how friendly it is. The hotel looked amazing and I will probably stay there next time I go. Huge props to this place! read more

I will preface by saying this is only about the restaurant, and we did not stay at the hotel. We ate at the restaurant for their Taco Thursday and it was the worst meal we had on our entire trip, but by far the most expensive. Despite drawing attention to being charged for an extra drink, no effort was made to take it off our bill by our server. The band was the one good thing about the night but they were playing way too loud. There was also a point in the performance where they were accompanied by dancing luchadors who did a choreographed dance wrestle, and at precisely that moment I knew I was getting ripped off by an "all sizzle, no steak" kind of place who was trying way too hard to compensate for the fact that their restaurant isn't good. Let's also consider what's happening at an "all you can eat taco dinner": it was 950 MXN for one person, and tacos are the kind of thing you eat 4 of and you're like "I'm more or less completely full." This would be like having an all you can eat cheeseburger night... the average person isn't eating more than 1 at that event, so why are they paying 4 times as much for maybe 1.5? And all that aside, not enough can be said about how average the tacos were. I ate more than half the menu because I wanted to get value for what I spent, and maybe 2 of them left me saying "that was decent" the rest were at best average and at worst actively bad (think dry, overcooked meat and missing ingredients listed on the menu). There were multiple times I ordered x amount of tacos and got x-1. There was also no cohesion among the wait staff, as it was unclear who was serving our table specifically for the first 20 minutes, it seemed like there was some power grabs happening within their hierarchy. Additionally our table was moved twice for seemingly a lack of foresight. The churros at the end were dry and overcooked, and you could tell the oil hadn't been changed all day. And yeah, we told the waiter that they charged us for an extra drink and he did not rush to fix it so we just had to pay and leave. I went to tip 0% (which I normally don't do but I thought was fair because of the aforementioned extra drink charge) and the lowest option was 10%. They also don't let you pay by cash only card, which isn't a huge issue but was still inconvenient lol. I guess if anyone learned anything about this review it's that "an all you can eat taco dinner sounds good, but a normal order of tacos is kind of all you CAN/SHOULD eat, and you don't actually need to force yourself to eat 15 incredibly mid tacos while shirtless hotel workers pretend to fight each other in front of you." read more

I love La Zebra. Would definitely stay here next time I'm in town. We visited for a day trip for access to the beach club and it was just really relaxing. The sand felt nice, beach was beautiful, service was top notch and location was super clean. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the manager who offered us seating of choice by the beach. All the day beds were taken but there were still a few chairs and the boats. I love that they didn't charge extra just for a place to sit. You do have to spend a minimum of $40 per person and that includes food and drinks. My bf even got offered a 5-10 minutes massage which I thought was great. All the drinks were really good and waiter was very attentive. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice day on the beach! read more

Came here based on the reviews on multiple blogs. The beachview was nice and it's a large open air concept dining area, with outdoor seating. The waiter recommended the burritos, which seemed to have fresh ingredients but seriously lacked flavor. Even the multiple sauce options did not help. Also ordered drinks that were sub par. Girls at the entrance weren't very welcoming and were busy on their phones. We were a party of 11 and definitely didn't feel welcomed. Best beach service in Tulum! I only went to the beach club and the spending minimum is $30 I think. I got a Frappuccino which was delicious and not too sweet. I also got a burrito which was amazing. Usually, the service at beach clubs is kind of slow but this one was the best I had. He was always there and ready to take care of us. This is the second time I have stayed here and it's in an ideal location. Walking distance to pretty much anything you could ever want to do. Very good food, drinks, and of course the Mulberry Project bar is on the beach. Get a plunge pool room ocean front or at the very least ocean view. One word of advice is don't come in peak seaweed season, because unfortunately this time around I did and they keep the beach clean but the rest is out of their control. Roberto Carlos is beyond amazing. He is the manager of the restaurant staff. Came out with open arms treating us to of the menu special and unbelievable customer service. The beach is amazing and peaceful. A nice change of pace from the crazy parties when you need a chill down. Good for families, couples and singles. There is a little something for everyone. Even when it says it will rain there is barely a splash. Least not to forget the ambiance of the buildings are awesome. We also had the Tuna Crudo From Ensenada and it was the best tuna we had in Tulum. They serve the water over ice, a lime and a cucumber slice and that is a very refreshing touch. This place is a dream come true. We spent the better portion of our week here and I can't say enough good things from arrival to departure. The welcome margarita is fabulous. Our first night we got in around 7 and had dinner at the restaurant - best meal of the trip was the night we got in. Will and Jaime are both great who work in the restaurant. We had 4 breakfast there, 2 or 3 dinners and several days of snacking/drinking in a cabana on the beach. Each day they tidy up your room and refresh toiletries, and each night they bring warm tea and peanut butter cups. I can only hope to be back some day. No bueno!!! My husband and I stayed down the street at The Beach Tulum because La Zebra was full during our dates... and thank heavens! Our hotel actually lives up to the hype (and is adults only). When we decided to come to La Zebra for dinner we were disappointed in the service and the food. The Cochinita Pibil tastes much better in California. Here it tasted like shredded chicken. They forgot our water and never came back to get a drink refill so my husband went up to the bar to get us more. We were the only table in the place to make it worse lol. This place has an incredible view. We thought that the food was just okay. They start you out with some free sauces and crackers. These are just okay but we appreciated getting something free. We started with the tuna tostada, which was fresh and good. We didn't expect this but most of the meat comes out on a grill that you then have to cut yourself. This seems cool but then the meat ends up being overcooked. We would have preferred that it came without any work for us. The tres leches was okay. The only great part of it was the marshmallows on the side. I'd come again for the views and a drink, but I wouldn't probably go back for the food. The food was good. This is definitely one of our best places to go when in Tulum. It always has a great vibe and the food is always delicious. Beautiful Caribbean sea view is also a bonus when dining as th restaurant is located right on the beach. You can choose to see inside if you would but we always take outside seating right on the sand. La Zebra serves authentic Mexican cuisine with a twist and always based on premium ingredients. The choice is wide from Ceviche, to Tacos, to Burgers and salads. One of our favorite is definitely mixed ceviche with all the flavors of citrus, spiciness, so refreshing. We had tried all the Tacos and it is hard to say which option wins as all of them are awwesome. Dont forget to try aquachile which is superb. As for the drinks any choice will bring you joy and happy face. Their drinks menu has three categories: SPICY, REFRESHING, SOPHISTICATED representing different drink types. Our favorite were Spicy Anthony Quinn with Mezcal. If you want a nice refreshing lunch then La Zebra is the place to go, I assure you will want to come back again :))) read more

Got here to La Zebra , I have been coming here for a while really nice place to eat here in Tulum but today was so different and a very awkward experience the manager from restaurant greet us and told us we couldn't sit in cabana cause we needed to eat first we told him that we where gonna get sun first then eat and he turned us away even though it was not busy we continued onto the beach one of the nice waiter's from bar came and ask us to come back and gave us a cabana we order drinks and have been laying here for about a couple hours now we he comes back pointing at us very rude , To the owner we come here 3 to 5 times a year we the customers keep your business going without us you would not have a business yes we are not the only ones but just imagine how many customers your manager is being selective and turning away ,restaurants get their customers by word of mouth and here in the Yelp Family word of mouth is the most popular channel for restaurants to make twice as many sales . read more
