The premier issue is on newsstands now. From their website: We see a growing number of people tied together not by age, career, background, or circumstance, but by a shared interest. This revolves around a passion for potential mixed with fierce pragmatism and creative engagement. We sum all this up as the sensibility of giving a damn. But to shorten it, let's call it GOOD. We're here to push this movement and cover its realization. For while so much of today's media is taking up our space, dumbing us down, and impeding our productivity, GOOD exists to add value. So here's our first issue. We worked hard to give you something that you'll like.

This is a small town newspaper that features local athletes & heroes from El Segundo. It shows you where to be and when to be there. It shows you when the local Farmers Markets are. It tells you everything you need to know about El Segundo. This little newspaper still has a small little Office front in El Segundo which they have to pay rent for and they distribute the newspaper for free. I mean does it get any better than that? I do not think so. I believe Heaven is El Segundo and so does the publisher of this paper.

The El Segundo Herald is a local real estate flyer with a community newsletter attached. It's headlines are always about the local little league baseball schedule or who is appearing in the local school play. It has no news af any substance and is mostly good for the bottom of the kitty litter box or for wrapping fish. Nobody reads it and it is a nuisance when it is left outside on the sidewalk. I wish they would stop printing it but since it is given away for free, the local realtors must give it enough revenue to keep it going.

It covers local stories in much greater detail than the Burbank Leader (which is owned by the LA Times). Not to mention they seem to always capture great photos at newsworthy events. However this publication fails to fully embrace the importance of new media. Sure Burbank Times has a website, but it looks very dated and only a screenshot of the newspaper's cover page are available to read. Almost every major newspaper I know of provides full access to complete stories on the website. Attention Burbank Times: if you want my eyeballs on your content, MAKE IT EASY FOR ME TO GET IT. Why would I go down to some post office lobby to pick up your free newspaper when almost every other newspaper I read is online? Does it surprise anybody that newspaper subscriptions are down dramatically while online newspaper viewing has substantially increased? Maybe the Burbank Times doesn't care, they are too small of an operation, or they aren't interested in increasing their presence. It's a shame because it's a decent newspaper. PS- Burbank Times: unprotect your Twitter Tweets, you want people to see them...don't you?

But, at the end of a tiring day, while I'm driving through my comfy hometown, I like to pick up the Burbank Times and read bits of what is going on in my own backyard....the events at the YMCA, the Saturday farmers market, or what the mayor recently said.
