We stopped by after seeing a video of the restaurant's pezole served in small stainless steel pots. We ordered the Menudo, Pezole, and a red pork tamale. My husband and I both prefer our soup spicier. I added most of the red chili sauce to my Pezole and my husband did the same for his menudo. Both tasted good after adding more heat. Both soups came with sides of onion, cilantro and mine had radishes and cabbage. The Pezole had store bought tostadas on the side which were not great and the menudo had homemade corn tortillas. The tamale needed a little more time to steam but it was pretty good as well. The server was pleasant and served us fairly quickly. The restaurant is located in a strip center on 27th Ave and Northern near the QT gas station. It was a far drive for us but the food was good. If you're looking for Mexico City style Mexican food, give it a try. Food: 4.5 Service: 4.5 Ambiance: 4 Overall: 4.3 read more

I thought LA Villa was as solid as they come. It's Mexico City cuisine, a little different than your generic Mexican. I ordered the quesabirria tacos, they were delicious. My only complaint was the greasiness. I felt I needed to shower after. read more

Went in today for breakfast after Church. It was just after 11 am an there were about 6 other families there, so plenty of room for everyone. The cashier told my group to wait to be seated, so we stood there waiting... and waiting.....and waiting. The waitress keep going to the back to prepare more food and kept walking by us. Nothing about "grab a seat" or "I'll be right with you" No acknowledgment at all. After 10 minuted we just left. They had plenty of staff and more than half the seats were empty, but no one could seat us. With bad service like this, good luck. read more

The service is excellent and so friendly! We ordered pozole. What excellent flavor! Fresh hot tortillas came with it and extra hot sauce on the side. Very authentic Mexico City! I got the carne quesadilla. A little greasy but very good! We had to get dessert just to make the experience complete! Flan! O. M. G. !!! Well worth the drive from Cave Creek!!! read more

The good: food was served quickly. They offer chips and some salsa. The quality of the food is authentic, but needed a bit more flavor to my taste. I ordered a chalupa de chicharrón. Torta cubana was good. I was not impressed about The agua mineral preparada. I saw the server when she rimmed the cup with chilli powder/ tajin and pour a tamarindo agua mineral in a cup with ice. That's it! Perhaps I had bigger expectations. Would I Come back? No. Do I recommend people try it? Yes. The bad: long wait, no organization as if you seat yourself or wait to be seated. Staff were nice and courteous. Little acknowledgment from them, but they were busy. read more

Ambience is like being in Mexico, I ordered Pozole but a lot of broth, less meat and ok grain. Flavour it tasted like reheated food., Pozole is one of my favorite dishes but not good flavour for me. Service is good, I had to add more cabbage and onions to fill me up, pricey for the amount of food you get. read more

I tried this spot for the first time when I was looking to move into the area, and honestly, this restaurant was one of the reasons I moved to this part of town! One of the great local shops in the area. Every time I dine at La Villa DF, the service is friendly and fast, the food is delicious, and I find a new tune to add to my music library. Servers speak great English to accommodate my sad lack of Spanish, and my order is correct every time. I really appreciate this neighborhood spot and bring friends and family here when they come around. The tortas are my spouse's fave, and I love the chicken mole. The recently added breakfast menu is also amazing--we tried it today for the first time. Good black coffee and excellent huevos rancheros. We love La Villa DF! read more

This place used to be the pinnacle of tacos in Phoenix. How the mighty have fallen. They lost flavor. They provide less food for the amount you pay. I've given them four chances after they changed management or changed cooks. I'm not sure what the deal is, but they have failed to meet any of their previous standards and expectations which is why I will no longer return. read more

Solid authentic "street" Mexican dishes. I really enjoyed my milanesa torta, good size and well seasoned. It's hard to find a milanesa torta at your average place, so I really appreciate that they have it in their menu. Check them out if you're in the area. I'd like to return for their weekday specials which include the drink. read more

The Salsa is the Star! Just came in for a few tacos. Not much flavor with Carnitas.....?!??? What???? Like the meat was just cooked and not seasoned. But with the help of the Salsa it was better. The Chips and Salsa that were complimentary were good. Chips nice and strudy. I'll have to try the Asada next time. But for now I am not in any hurry to return. The waitress was nice! Can I just say the waitress (Penelope was on the receipt) was amazing! Hustling everywhere, working alone. There was a few people that walked out due to dirty tables, but she truly was the only one working the room besides the two cooks. What do you expect for $1 tacos on Taco Tuesday?! Many people placed to go orders. I was truly amazed on how many people I saw within the hour I was there. So, we ordered 11 tacos and 1 large Horchata, it came out to be $16.02, we were both full and the tacos were tasty. My favorite was "longaniza" which is chorizo or pork sausage. Also they have a saying that states that their salsa is spicy and I totally agree! I will be returning, don't be discourage if the tables are dirty, just give it a chance. I would recommend them having two people working on taco Tuesday, since there was a lot of people. Go for the $1 on Tuesdays! read more

I had the Birrieria tacos which were delicious as far as the consomé had no flavor. We had high expectations and was highly disappointed. Their website states "authentic", however sadly, it is NOT. The chips basket was really small for 3 people, and no chip refills. Their al pastor tacos are NOT authentic, not roasted and cut from the trompo and the pineapple for the tacos was not fresh. The pambazo was good but the potato/chorizo mix was way too mushy, almost like a spread. Overall their food is edible but nothing special, if anything it's disappointing. read more

$1.50 tacos :) I was expecting this place to be one of the order to go type places but its actually a pretty nice place to sit and eat. Once you sit, they give you a menu with chips, salsa, and some pickled spicy onions. We were hungry and craving some "weird" food so we ordered an array of food. Tacos (Pastor, Beef Head, and Beef Tongue), pig hooves torta, and posole soup. The tacos were small, but tasty. I actually was pretty content with 3 tacos. My favorite was the pastor. Ive never had pig feet torta but it actually wasn't too bad. It kind of tasted like beef tendon. Lastly, the posole soup was not bad. Overall, if you looking for out of the ordinary menu items, come here. I'd def recommend the tacos. Environment: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Service: 4/5 read more

Wow. It's like their menu says, they don't cook fast food; they cook good food. We ordered a range of food and everyone here at work is loving everything. I think the only con is the rice and beans taste generic, but that can be overlooked. The meat all tastes slow cooked. My favorite part is the green salsa which enhances all of the flavors. The mango smoothie tastes so fresh! The tres leches cheesecake is wonderful - it's not too rich and it sustains it's moisture. And our churros are crispy, lightly sugared, filled with cream, and not overdone. I can't take any pictures because it's all gone - all we have left are empty boxes. read more

This restaurant is still fairly new, and offers an extensive list of dishes from Mexico City. We came to grab an early dinner due to the positive Yelp reviews, and the experience was mixed but enough to bring me back for future visits. Upon entering, the sizable interior encompassed a long vertical open kitchen to accompany a red on brown colored décor. There were also several TVs and rows of tables casually arranged. The Cabeza and Chicharrón Tacos ($1.50 each) came with minced beef head and pork rinds served on double-decked corn tortillas that held up nicely. Both tacos were nicely seasoned to accompany the sweetness of the corn tortillas, onions, cilantros, and picked red onions. In particular, the fatty Cabeza was delicious, nicely seasoned and great meaty flavor stemming from the fat. On the other hand, the Chicharrón was partially burnt, with flavors and textures undistinguishable. Not sure what I was eating, but definitely avoid the Chicharrón. The Mexicana Torta ($9.99) was made with large strips of tender marinated chicken, jalapeños, and refried beans sandwiched in-between soft sturdy telera. I loved the soft sweet telera roll and the marinated chicken. Unfortunately, the sandwich was missing grilled onions, tomato, and avocado, causing Santi to return it for another one. Fortunately, they were able to fix the problem quickly, but I wished they could have remake the entire sandwich instead of given us the one that was partially eaten. The Torta tasted a lot better once the missing ingredients were added. For the price, I wished the meat and fillings were more stacked. The Lengua Huarache ($7.50) was the best dish of the meal. It came with a thick masa layered with refried beans, cubed beef tongue, lettuce, Mexican white cheese, and sour cream. I wished the grilled masa could come with some crispy edges to add texture, but it was soft, flavorful, and easy to cut into. The beans nicely corroborated with the substantive lengua and corn masa, and the rest of the toppings added a hint of sweet, sour, and bright flavors. The lengua was tender, chunky, plentiful, but could be cut into bigger pieces. It was delicious, not greasy, and the biggest Harache I have seen to date. They were out of several dessert items, so we ordered the Churro de Canela ($2.50) to complete our meal. Arrived piping hot fresh, the two long strips of Churro were coated with cinnamon and sugar. Albeit a few inconsistencies in the fried dough, the Churros were tasty, not greasy, and coupled nicely with the side of strawberry jam. Not as good as the ones from Mr. Churro, but the mix of crunch soft sugary bites provided a nice finishing touch. The atmosphere was modest, welcoming, and family and group friendly. Interested diners should expect friendly, knowledgeable, and down to earth service. I was somewhat disappointed in the lack of heat in these dishes, but the red and green sauces were able to make up for the missing flavors. Using Guisado as a case in point, I thought the food could be so much better if they could just put a little more into these dishes to distinguish the cuisine from all others. For example, the complimentary chips should be served warm and lightly salted, and the meat could be served in bigger pieces to go along with more striking flavors of Mexico City. 2.5 stars for the overall dining experience. I find their food to be promising, and would be interested in returning to try their Sopes, Alambre, Pancita, Pork Leg Torta, Fried Plantains, and Chocoflan. read more

Good solid meal especially for the price. The salsa was tasty and presentation was nice. I had three pastor tacos which was a good amount of food. The pastor was good overall and everything was fresh. I'd have liked the pastor to have a bit more flavor, but it certainly wasn't unfavorable and it was hot and fresh. The employees were friendly and attentive and the restaurant was very clean. I'll certainly be back when in this area and am looking forward to trying more items. Like many authentic Taqueria places in Houston, this excellent establishment in a Phoenix strip mall clearly conveys you'll have a tasty meal as soon as you walk through the front doors and spy the all-Spanish signs. Today I came here for a work lunch and I was fortunate to have my co-worker buddy with me who speaks good Spanish. Therefore, I was the only person in the entire restaurant that didn't speak fluently. We both ordered the tacos. I got two Pastor and one Longaniza (Mexican dry sausage) which had nice depth of flavor. The real knockout was their salsa roja and salsa verde, each of which brought a nice high burn heat but good flavor too. They also have the authentic pickled onions with Habanero which presents hot, sour and fruity. The tacos are small so I added on a side of rice and refried beans. The rice was just OK - more of an afterthought but the refried beans were lighter and more wet and the sprinkling of Cotija cheese is a nice touch. The service is prompt and it wasn't too busy today. This is a place worth stopping by! read more

I don't give a lot of 5's. There is no ambiance, this place is more like a hole in the wall Mexican place in Mexico than you will ever find North of the border. It is a Spanish speaking place but don't be afraid as the server spoke native English. But, you'd better know your Mexican food as this place is as authentic as you can get. I had an Asada quesadilla which was like a long taco. I had it grilled but it also comes fried. Others at the table had torta's which looked great. I was the only "gringo" so I went conservative with Asada but one of my friends had a chicharrone quesadilla and I was jealous and will have it next time. If you want real good Mexican food this place is a must. Again, don't expect ambiance but expect really authentic and really good, read more

I'm from L.A. and I eat burritos every day there. This is the best burrito I've had since I've been out in AZ. I got the diabla shrimp burrito and it was so good. My mom got green chicken enchiladas and said they were awesome. I also got a California burrito which I microwaved the next morning and it was pretty good even reheated, but the diabla burrito is one of the best shrimp burritos I've ever had. The red and green salsas are both bomb too and actually have a little kick unlike a lot of places out here. Also, the flan was very fresh and tasty and seemed homemade. I will definitely come back, I want to try their mole sauce on something. It also said they had champurrado which I'm going to get next time. Everyone working was super friendly too. It wasn't cheap, but it was good portions and really tasty. I highly recommend this place. read more

First time. Holy smokes. MUY RICO!! Absolutely delicious food. We ordered green chile chicken enchiladas (super!), caldo de pollo (amazing!), a few tacos (all fantastic!) and something I'd never heard of... a PAMBAZO. Where have these been all my life?! Apparently, this restaurant's food is in the style of Mexico City. Well, I'm almost speechless at how to describe just how delightful to the palate this Pambazo was. And I ordered a Small!!! Next time, I'm getting a Large. So it's like a small torta HOWEVER the bread is dipped in a red guajillo chile sauce (not spicy, just so tasty). How it doesn't get soggy is beyond me. Maybe they bake the bread again, who knows. But inside it's filled with beans, mashed potatoes, cheese and chorizo!!!! You gotta try this if you've already had tacos, burritos, tostadas, enchiladas, etc... Give your life on Earth a new experience, go to Villa DF and order a Pambazo. You'll be all the better for it. Last but not least, their caldo de pollo (chicken soup) is absolutely mouthwatering & hands down the best I've had in years. They also have Mexican Coke in bottles, too. read more
