And while you will find the usual familiar favorites on the menu, you will find a plethora of things not commonly seen in your standard Tex-Mex restaurants. This is a great place if you've wanted to try more authentic food, but aren't quite ready to abandon old familiar favorites entirely. The decor is lively and bright, reminding me so much of places back where I am from. You can tell a lot about a place by the way the staff interacts with one another as well, and there seems to be a strong sense of camaraderie among them. Always clean, the prices are decent and you will not come away hungry. Seriously, for dinner, why bother going to any other place?

Just had an ap, two street tacos, and a top shelf margarita. Delicious! The queso with chorizo was LOADED with chorizo. Tacos were delicious. And the margarita...... well, the large will get you there. Definitely tasty and more authentic than many other 'Mexican' restaurants I have been to around the country.

Fast, efficient, and professional. bar: We both had the house margaritas and they are same price, frozen or on the rock ($8.99 each as of 11/2025). They have lots of beer taps, including my favorite, Free State Yakimaniac IPA. Wide ranging drinks menu, with something for everyone. food: Finally, a place that still provides those awesome complimentary chips and red salsa! We also had their chile con queso and thought it was great ($8.99). Menu has an excellent rendition of my all-time favorite, huevos con chorizo - or eggs with garlic sausage ($13.49). My wife ordered a la carte with a chile verde tamale ($5.99), a shredded beef soft taco ($1.99), rice ($3.99) and black beans ($3.99). In retrospect, it's probably smarter to order a combination plate! Huge menu with lots of interesting choices. details: Bright, bustling, busy space - even for a rainy Monday night. Plenty of surface parking right outside.

I don't know if abuela left but I think she would be disappointed in how this restaurant served us. Firstly, the food had no flavor. I'm sorry but you're a restaurant.. isn't the whole point to eat food that has flavor? Like not even salt. Also the tacos were so greasy they made us gag. I'm not even kidding like it was bad. Once we got our food we waited 15 mins for silverware. So that kinda sucked too. And then it took us 5 years to get the check. Also there were extremely racist white old ladies sitting at the table next to us. The customer isn't always right. Anyway though, we were really disappointed. Lawrence does have great Mexican food. I was excited to bring my boyfriend here because it used to be one of my favorite spots. They also don't do free queso anymore. At least the place was clean. There are better spots like Lulu's or Los Guapos. (Rip cielitos). I'd maybe try again in the future but for now I wouldn't go back.

I called to make a reservation and the hostess had a had time hearing me, even though I could hear the conversation of the 2 employees near the phone. Instead of moving, she asked me to call back. When I did she still couldn't hear me, but again I could hear the conversations of the people around her, so I spoke up louder and had to repeat myself several times. The hostess said in Spanish, " This bitch is being rude and annoying." When I spoke to her in Spanish and she realized I heard what she said her attitude changed. All of a sudden the background noise stopped and she could hear me very clear and was able to help out. When I asked for her name she hung up on me. At dinner the table ordered a round of drinks and it took 25 min to receive our drinks even though it was a Wednesday and the restaurant wasn't busy. Our waitress only checked on our table when she took the order, dropped off the drinks, and drop off the check. The food was not worth the service I received. Most of the waiters were just standing around talking amongst themselves.

Arriving on a taco Tuesday at 6pm to an empty restaurant probably should have been my first clue, but at this point still hoping I was in on something good and everyone else was just missing out (very wrong). First, $5 for chips and salsa - not always fun to pay for chips and salsa when most places don't charge, but I understand it. However, chips were on the stale side and the salsa, while flavorful, was very mild and way over salted. We couldn't enjoy much of it. I asked the server about taco Tuesday specials featured directly on their website, had to ask the question a couple different times before she landed on telling me they got a new pay system and since the deal wasn't in the system, she couldn't honor the deal. She also seemed confused, so I didn't push further. Ordered waters (never received them), house margaritas (not too sweet, generous, and strong - pretty great marg!) and street tacos (chicken, pastor, asada - all incredible dry and under seasoned, didn't taste like they had marinated in anything, I was genuinely baffled by this). My tacos came out a full 10 minutes before my friend's tacos (same exact taco order - and I'll remind you we're still the only people in the restaurant...). We then watched our server get a little upset with the cook while pointing to our table, so there were some interesting, public communication issues among the staff. Finally, when the time came to pay, they presented their tap system, where the server was walked me through my items and processed it, quickly selecting the tip amount on my behalf me and finalizing it before I could say anything. I asked her about the tip, she pointed to show me how much it was, and I shared that I understand that but she selected it for me. She laughed, said thanks, walked away. I wasn't planning to return based on the food, but the forced tip amount at the end of a pretty bad dinner experience was what really changed the tone of my review. I love local Mexican spots and I hope they read this and make some changes to their service. NKC is growing and I'd hate for them to fall flat among the other competitors doing a little more for their customers.

It's located on the west side of the railroad tracks, just west of Santa Fe & Kansas Ave. They typically have a little bit of seating and a tent for shade set up, if you want to eat on site; however, we've simply ordered online and picked up each time, which has worked flawlessly! Our meals have been ready within 60 seconds of checking in each time! We've tried all their basics - the street tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas, and sopes! Despite the food in the namesake, our favorite has actually been....the burritos! In fact, my son - who is at the intersection of picky boy and growing, hungry teen - absolutely LOVES their burritos here! Despite the fact that they are fairly large (not quite Chipotle-size...but knocking on the door!), he swears he could "easily eat two"! I haven't let him try yet...but between you and me, I'm sure he probably could...and WOULD! My daughter's favorite is the tacos birria, and while I have enjoyed it all, I, like my son, have a soft spot for the chicken burrito or asada burrito! My last note on the food: you MUST try their salsas! The verde is extremely fresh and bright, and the spicy (orange in color) is an incredible add-on to most of their dishes! (As someone who's comfortable with spice, I'd rate the spice level at a 0/10 for the verde, and a 6/10 for the spicy!). I literally douse almost every bite with the spicy salsa! The folks working the truck are always very kind, helpful, and friendly! The prices are on par for what you'd expect. My primary beef (pun!) with their pricing is that you can get certain different meats on the tacos, tortas, and sopes., but NOT with the burritos or quesadillas! I'd die of happiness if they'd offer at least the Asada and Pastor options at no-additional-cost for the burritos! Food = 5/5 Facility = 3/5 Service = 4/5 Ambiance = 4/5 (one over "average" due to seating/shade on site!) Value = 2/5 (one below "average" for charging extra for meat options)
