One simply can't come to Paris and skip this landmark. After all, it's one of the first images in your mind when you think Paris. Right? I loved it. However, there are going to be some things about it that'll aggravate the hell out of you. First, the queues are a nightmare unless you're like us who got there at 7:30am and waited it out in shifts. Then it's pick pocket and haggler central. They simply will NOT leave you alone for more than 2 minutes. They're like yellow jacket wasps; shoo them away and they come right back to sting you over and over again. Lastly, once you waited and waited to purchase tickets, then wait for the elevators and you're at the top, you're fighting crowds for a view. It's exhausting. Now a tip: if you're not interested in going up to the top, go grab a towel, head to any grocery store and buy a couple €4 or €5 bottles of wine and snacks. Head to the lawn in front of the tower and enjoy a late evening picnic. Once the sun sets, the tower illuminates with a stunning light spectacle that's not to be missed. Of course, the super annoying hagglers selling the same €4 bottle of wine you bought at the market for €15 and cigarettes will be relentless and constant. No matter how many times you say "no!", they'll be back. I got so angry, I actually yelled "dégage, connard!" to no avail. They kept coming back. Also, note that in the late spring and summer, it gets dark pretty late in Paris, around 10:30pm so grab some coffee. Tickets for the elevator to the top will set you back €15,50. But, in spite of its faults, you simply can't pass it up. Sorry for writing a novella : ) read more

Although it's very touristy I would say do it. When I'm Paris ...why not. We paid the money for the skip the line tour, worth every penny. The elevators to get to the top are impressive. Get ready to wait in line. It's bigger then you expect from the inside. read more

Pretty and all but I couldn't go up because they were on strike. 3 stars Just kidding. I gotta say the Eiffel is one of the few things that has really lived up to the hype in my travels. What really gets me is just how WIDE it is at it's base which is rather hard to convey in photography. I managed to go on a very clear night and while I am very bummed that I did not get a chance to ride up the tower (especially after walking there from the 9th district) it was worth the time. I was also a fan of how quiet some of the surrounding areas were. A few hundred feet away there was a quiet park with a few benches that gave a great view of the tower without the crowds. Next time I am in Paris I will revisit with the hopes of being able to go to the second deck. read more

While you've undoubtedly seen a billion pics of the Eiffel Tower in your lifetime, none do the real thing any justice. It is an amazing piece of architecture and far more beautiful than you have ever realized. An amazing fact is that the tower was built for one of the World Fairs and was never intended to be permanent. Luckily when it came time to tear it down, everyone wanted it to stay. I highly suggest visiting the tower at night. It's crowded but not crazy and the tower is beautifully lit, making it even more majestic. Every 15 minutes or so sparkling lights are activated and it's quite a light show. The Eiffel wasn't initially on my itinerary but ultimately I was very happy I found time to see it. It's worth a visit after a long, leisurely dinner. read more

Save your self hours of waiting on long lines by booking your tickets way in advanced. Also check your ticket to ensure you can go to the very top - not all tickets allow access up there. Bathrooms are also nonexistent. Our experience - Wait in line 30 minutes for initial security screening, enter plaza under Eiffel tower, choose one of 3 or 4 long lines to wait on; elevator only or stairs only, we choose stair only line and waited over an hour online to get to ticket window, at ticket window purchased only ticket offered to us, x-ray of belongings and non-dangerous items from purse permanently confiscated, climb 700 steps to second level; not bad and was fun, arrive at end of stairs only to find out that we do not have the appropriate ticket to get to the top. Upsetting and after 3+ hours there with no direction or clear signage we gave up. We had fun, we did it and it was beautiful - but absolutely book ahead and make sure you have a ticket to the top if you want to go up there. Staff was no where to be found and lack of signage or information in French or English which lead to all disappointments. Wish we had a clear expectation on wait time as we had a young child with us, explanation of items not allowed on tower to avoid confiscation a head of time and advisement of the appropriate ticket to the top to avoid letting our daughter down. BOOK AHEAD. read more

This is absolutely something you have to do your first trip to Paris and I recommend doing it in the evening/night once the tower is lit up! The elevators up are quite crowded, especially the smaller one to the Too and the line to get back down is very long so be prepared. The view from the top is incredible. However, the most breathtaking view is from the park across the street at night with the lights. At the top of the hour every hour the tower sparkles for 5 minutes! read more

The Eiffel Tower is a must see when visiting Paris. Most tourists will stand underneath and take pictures from the bottom up. During this trip we went to the top and took pictures from the top floor to the ground of Paris. AMAZING VIEW. I definitely think if you're taking the trip to the Eiffel Tower you should head to the top! Although, the champagne is not good and it is pricey for bad champagne. read more

Such a beautiful attraction. I went here part of a 6 country 2 continent vacation. During the summer month of june you must be aware of their soccer championship. The tickets are absolutely sold out for a minimum two weeks ahead of time. The structure is amazing, with a beautiful view of france. The police around the grounds were friendly and i even took pictures laying down om the street and sidewalk. The tower is close to restruants, that range in price. My girlfriend has a chicken (poulite) sandwitch and i had the tuna. Theres a also a beautiful winery where you can purchase bottles of vino for 4 euro.. amazing experience must go. read more

Simply amazing. I went there twice and made it to the top once. The view you get from there is just freaking awesome. You can see all Paris at one glance. Tour Eiffel is what makes Paris so special. I have just one recommandation if you expect to make it the top: take a jacket with you or any warm clothes because it will be very cold at the top (even in the summer). read more

How can you miss seeing Le Tour Eiffel? It was my first time in Paris and seeing this monument was breathtaking! I was in total awe when I saw this at night. We came around 930pm so, it wasn't as crowded than it probably would be on a normal day. My friend and I didn't bother going up but, we saw the light show. It apparently happens every hour. Make sure you don't miss it! read more

Eiffel Tower at night..... i get it now. It has a certain appeal to it. You don't need reservations to go to the top, that's only for tours. Just save your money. They light it up at night and they also have light flashing all over it.The view of the city from teh top is amazing. I understand why Paris is called, "the city of lights." Don't spend all your time behind the camera, actually spend some time enjoying the view and looking around. Pictures won't do it justice. So just take them with you mentally. We also saw the cliche' marriage proposal. Yes, someone decided to propose here, like every other night. The girl wasn't surprised, all her friends were in on it and she knew what was going on. It was probably her idea. read more

I visited Paris in 2005. Fortunately, I'd booked a tour when I booked my flight and hotel. Started the tour on a bus riding around, seeing the sites... Then we disembarked at the glorious Eiffel Tower. The lines were CRAZY! Our tour guide strolled up to somebody, said something and, voila, we were getting on an elevator on our way up to the 2nd floor! The tour guide explained that Paris is very a flat city and that going to all the way up to the 3rd floor wasn't necessary. From the 2nd floor, everything was gorgeous. After walking the perimeter, instead of going to the first floor via elevator (which was packed anyways), I took the stairs. In some strange way, it made my Eiffel Tower experience twice as nice. I mailed my mother a post card with a photo of the Eiffel Tower from the first floor with one simple sentence; "Je suis ici!" I walked by the restaurant and promised myself that when I returned, I'd have a meal there. When I do, I'll definitely Yelp about it! read more

It is an iconic world landmark known everywhere! The surrounding area is also very nice and you can enjoy a nice picnic on the grass. The downside is that it ALWAYS seems to be crowded here. During my visit the lines were always very long so I gave up on the journey to the top. I'm not big on standing in lines anyway and I was short on time and decided not to waste HOURS standing in line here and I'm fine with that as I had a great time visiting lots of other spots. Certainly getting tickets ahead of time is a much better idea and taking the stairs is the best thing to do and I hear it is a great work out! read more

Oh Eiffel Tower... you are so beautiful. Last time I came I didn't go up, but I was able to do so this time around. And I'm glad I did. The view from the top was very nice... and it was super trippy and cool to walk down the stairs. I couldn't do that at Tokyo Tower...so it was really a nice treat. I just wished the weather was nicer so that my photos would be more vibrant... but it's ok... I'll be back. read more

The Eiffel Tower is Paris' number one must-see. It was incredibly beautiful being up at the top during the sunset, watching the lights of Paris slowly illuminate against a darkening atmosphere. It was really amazing, and I think it was worth the price to go to the very top. I think it was a classy touch having champagne available for purchase at the top, also. Despite the 10 Euro price for a very small glass, it made my experience at the top just a little more special. We waited in a line for about 2 hours just to get to the elevator that gets you to the second story, but that's to be expected at a monument as famous as this. It was very confusing to actually find the line to purchase tickets. We asked people who worked there, police officers, and others, all who pointed in different directions. The other tourists were just as confused, standing in a line that looked legit only because there were a bunch of people already in it. We joined the masses in that line and it turned out to be the right one. When at the top, I liked that there aren't attendees rushing you out. You can stay as long as you like! I appreciated the opportunity to visit the Eiffel Tower. I might not come again because I've already done it, but if I did, I would consider taking the stairs to the second story and then taking the elevator to the top. It's cheaper, and a better workout. :) read more

You have to see the Eiffel Tower if you are in Paris. C'est magnifique! It is absolutely gorgeous and sparkles at night.

park nearby where you can bring an picnic. lots of people moving about for hours of people watching. and vendors all around so you can buy everything from a hot dog to a key chain. Beautiful monument. In the evening hours the tower is lit up. And there is even a light show where LED lights twinkle for five minutes. read more

If you're in Paris you have to see the Eiffel Tower. This is an icon that cannot be missed. First of all you need to know that there are gypsies and pickpockets all around so don't talk to any strangers and don't sign anything. Keep your wallets purses close to your body where no one can take it. If you're going to go up onto the Eiffel Tower they do have several levels that include Vantage points from which to take photos and also restaurants & souvenir shops right on the tower. I recommend you get a skip the Line pass because otherwise you will be waiting in line 4 to 5 hours. I came here on a skip the line tour and we were only in line for about 30 minutes or less before we got actually on to the tower. We took an elevator up to the first floor then to the second floor and then to the third floor. On the third floor observation deck you can see Gustave eiffel's personal office. You can't actually go in there but you can see through the windows that it is full of antique furniture + 3 statues, one being himself, one his wife and one a colleague. They also sell champagne up there in case you want to do a toast. They have several locations that stay this is a kissing spot for photos. You can see most of Paris from here and it's a beautiful view so I highly recommend you go all the way to the top read more

It was everything I hoped for and more. Be sure to stop at the 1st level, the elevator will take you to 2 and the top but on the way down you can go to the 1st level. We got there early in the day, no lines, especially now so we were able to get to the top quickly and had great views. When we left later there were lines so my recommendation is to get there early. read more

We hoofed it from afar and made it to the Eiffel Tower late in the evening. We promenaded along the southern bank of the Seine, but really the views of the Tower from this approach aren't the best. Do approach from the Trocadéro if possible for a fantastic, unadulterated post-card view of the tower. Arriving late in the evening, line ups were minimal: the line to buy tickets was short, and the wait for the elevator was non-existent. Unfortunately, they shut off the lift to the summit earlier in the evening, so be mindful of the time if that's your plan. That said, the nighttime view from the second level is still phenomenal, and it's easy to see why it's called the City of Lights. Definitely worth the time and effort. Had the weather been better I'm sure a picnic nearby would have been top of mind, but it was friggin' freezing. 6/30 read more

I can't help but admit that I'm a little obsessed with the Eiffel Tower. Paris, you changed my life, and the Eiffel Tower is as snazzy as it gets. The first night I was there, I didn't expect to see much of it in the dark other than it lit up, but as soon as the street lights came on the the entire Eiffel Tower literally flickered white beautiful lights for over a minute. It was PHENOMENAL. During the course of my week in Paris, I was glued to the Eiffel Tower. We spent days on the grass in front of it taking stupid pictures in order to impress all of our Facebook friends. Of course, being the tourist that I was, we had to see Paris from up top on a beautiful October day. We even wound up eating inside of the Eiffel Tower as well, that was cool :) read more

It was absolutely beautiful. I loved that I had experienced this. It was a gorgeous day for picture taking. The line for the Eiffel Tower was about 3 hours long. I'm lucky I wasn't apart of that. Since I was apart of a "tour", I skipped ALL of that. They had fans blowing on people waiting because it was just that stinkin' hot! If I originally had to wait in a line that long and saw what I did. It wouldn't be worth it to me. Being under the tower would be good enough. Like I said, I was lucky. Future Tip: Ignore all of the Gypsy's who walk up to you and beg for money. read more

Tres magnifique! I have wanted to travel to Paris since a young girl and in 2011 I got that chance. La Tour Eiffel was first on the list. I visited both during the day and at night. The day time trip was beautiful, although the very top deck was closed due to wind. The next best thing is mid way, still a beautiful view of the city of Paris. Also offered some wonderful gift shops and Parisian snack bars. I tried Gauffre! A waffle with Nutella. You can also grab a snack and have a picnic in one of the many parks and grassy areas at the base of the Tower. Do not fall for the men trying to shove souvenirs in your face to buy, it's cheap junk. They are just trying to scam you. Save your money for the official La Tour Eiffel Gift Shops at the base of the Tower or on the viewing decks. Wow, was this amazing! Et la nuit (And at night) the Eiffel Tower lights up the sky. What a site to be seen, one of the most memorable experiences in my life. For a metal structure, it is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture in the world. You cannot visit Paris without visiting La Tour Eiffel! read more

The Eiffel Tower is a must see if you are visiting Paris whether during the day or night. Personally, I preferred going during the evening since you get a day time view, as well as a night time view if you stay there a while. Usually there are long lines in order to go to the Tower, but it is completely worth it. Some might argue you get the best view of the city here. The view is definitely breathtaking, however, I don't think it's worth going all the way to the top. The very top is enclosed and you don't really get a good view. Be careful with the guys trying to sell you souvenirs near the Tower. They are extremely pushy & know how to spot their next victims. read more

Obviously a must see while in Paris. The area was busy the whole time we were there and even without pre-buying tickets to go to the top we only had to wait around 30 minutes. Once at the top the sight was great! While we were there an alarm went off stating that pickpockets were in the building and to guard your stuff. This memo was in English and French which was good. At the bottom of the Eiffel Tower there are a ton of people playing games in the park. Most of these were meant to be a distraction so tourists would stop to watch and when they weren't looking get some of their stuff taken. We never experienced anyone trying to rip us off the whole trip as we were paying attention to our stuff in the high tourist areas. read more

The most photogenic tower ever. While this iconic tower is a must visit and see, going up the tower is unbearably long. Waiting in line on a Friday to go to the very top and back down was terrible. We took the lift to the 2nd floor and then stood in another crazy long line to take the elevator to the very top. There were so many people packed on every floor. Luckily, the view from the Eiffel Tower is nice, so that's something to do while waiting in your lines. Something surprising was, many French people were waiting in line with us. I'd probably recommend going either early morning or late at night when the lines seemed shorter or nonexistent. There's also a daily nighttime light show at 10pm that lasts for 5 minutes. read more

It literally almost took my breath away when I first saw it. It's much bigger than I thought it would be and the architecture is amazing. I think I went on a good day cause I didn't wait for more than 20 minutes in any line. I chose to take the stairs to the first landing which I recommend because you really get to appreciate the tower more. At the first landing they have a little cafe and you can walk around but you should your ticket to the second lift because if you come so far might as well go to the top! Amazing views at the top. To buy champagne its expensive! (like $20 a glass) I don't think you'll ever get a better view of paris than at the top of the Eiffel Tower. I know it's cliche but it seriously one of my favorite things in Paris. I would recommend going during the day and at night, and bring your camera! read more

I been to the Eiffel tower three times, I climbed the stairs, I took the elevator to the top, I explored every inch (centimeter) of this tower. The tower is beautiful at night all lit up, it is no wonder why Paris is called the city of lights! At the very top there is a double spot light that beams into the sky (this doesn't sound like much until you gaze upon it). 1st visit: 10 p.m. an hour before the tower closed. The elevators were jammed and the stairs open. I climbed the stairs to the 1st level observation deck. From here the city is quite visible. The little information signs about the views scattered around, although for children, were very informative. I scaled the next set of stairs to the 2nd level observation deck. From here the city became more lively, the view more pleasant, and the wind stronger. 2nd visit (August): 8 a.m., one hour before the tower opened. I jumped in line for the elevator, 50 people deep. As I chatted with an American Couple and ate my crepe, I gazed up at the tower. Being beneath the tower, the foot print becomes surreal: Four massive feet planted on the earth, as if to grow out of the ground. Iron beams array, the intricate design, the elevator cables hanging loose. I was excited to view this beautiful city from high in the sky. Zipping through the line, and jumping on the elevator. I couldn't wait to get to the top! The elevator stops on the second level observation deck, which required a transfer to get all the way up. As the elevator ascents towards the sky, the iron structure around the elevator starts to disappear. Getting off at the top will reveal another line. This line will bring you to the outside observation deck. Words cannot be spoken about the view. If you are reading this because you want to find out about the line length, the answer is get there early, before the tower opens. If you are reading this because you are unsure if the wait is worth it, you are crazy and should stop reading now. At the top, be sure to view Eiffel's office! WOW! read more

This one is every bit as good if not better than the one in Vegas. I think it's older but still in great shape. The landscaping around the tower is really good. Obviously professionally done. The very ICON of Paris, and well worth... the annoying crowds the annoying lines the annoying scam artists - some should just give up trying. the annoying proprietors of cheap knockoff souvenirs and the slightly unsettling presence of French soldiers. so well worth it I came back two more times during my three days there :) I remember first seeing the top half of the tower as I walked out the door of my hotel, and being completely in awe at the fact that the Eiffel Tower was in my eyesight after seeing it so many times in pictures and in film. I couldn't believe it. I was definitely in PARIS. If you think it looks amazing during the day, you should definitely come back at night, when the tower truly dazzles with light. At the top of each hour, the tower sparkles with a dazzling glittery light show! It's a truly unforgettable sight. After its over, it still glows with light and its an amazing atmosphere to be around. I still remember my first of two night visits to the tower well, just sitting on the grass with the many other tourists there watching a man play guitar and sing an English-language song. As I ended up not having enough time to go to the very top, I only made it to the second level. But even there, the views of Paris are truly amazing. The only thing that ruined it for me was the rain that fell that night just as I had gotten up there. Prices to go up the tower are a bit up there, but it's the Eiffel Tower! read more
